Chapter 118: Business Was Calm

This was the first time Su Jindang had seen customers buy things in such an orderly manner.

He thought about his shop in town. It was like a war when his store was most active in the morning. Both of them were very busy. The chickens had to be killed at night and put into well water. Since today was in December, the chickens would not spoil. If it was any other day, then it wouldn’t work.

As business was getting better and more stable, he started planning ahead. Next year he would buy a refrigerator—the big kind to store goods for the shop.

Let's not talk about the future anymore. They were super busy and in a flash, they no longer had a lot of goods in the truck.

There was only half a jin of dried persimmon left. Ji Jianyun gave it to an old man he was familiar with. The old man really liked the honey Ji Jianyun had previously bought. He bought ten bottles from him this time. He bought the most because Ji Jianyun did not limit anyone’s purchases. Ji Jianyun said that he would come back tomorrow, so he did not have to be in such a hurry to buy from him. However, the old man ignored him. He basically spent all the money he had brought with him.

This was because of their experience from the last few times Ji Jianyun had come and they didn't bring enough money. Now he firmly believed that these uncles and aunts had brought more than enough money to shop from him. They had a feeling that as the New Year approached, Ji Jianyun would come again. If they brought more money and ended up not spending it, then what would they lose out on?

As a matter of fact, this time they took their chances and bought what they could.

For example, this old man bought a lot of other things besides honey. This included ten jin of eggs, two chickens, and a few jin of mutton. He spent almost all the money he had brought, so he had no money to buy dried persimmons. He just watched on the side and when there was half a jin left, Ji Jianyun did not make him pay. He just gave it to him.

The old man accepted it with a laugh and said, “That’s fine, I'll take it back to my young grandson for him to try. Your things are good. Will you come and sell them again at this time tomorrow?”

He had to ask about it. Several neighbors didn't come out today because they thought it was too cold. Meanwhile, he bundled up and came out with the hope that Ji Jianyun would come. When he went back today, he told them to go on their own tomorrow. This time, he would not share the one bottle of honey he brought back with his old buddies.

Last time, he bought back five bottles when it was originally limited to three bottles. He persuaded Ji Jianyun to let him buy five bottles to go back with. In the end, he only had one bottle left, and all the other four bottles were given out.

And then after a few days, he regretted it!

That honey was really different from ordinary honey. He couldn’t explain how it was different exactly. However, after drinking it for a few days, his bad breath problem had greatly improved. He had two spoonfuls a day: one spoonful in the morning, one spoonful before going to bed at night.

When the bottle was finished, his bad breath disappeared. Not only that, his bowel problems disappeared. He was old, and not as young as before. There were a lot of problems when people were old. Going to the hospital to get medicine was a waste of money. It had no results at all. He did not expect for this countryside honey’s effects to be so good.

But he ran out. Although he bought back a lot, he was only left with this one bottle. The rest were given to the other old guys.

It was because he felt healthier after buying fruit from Ji Jianyun last time that he believed that Ji Jianyun would be back to sell more. Yet, no one knew the magnitude of the effects of his products.

The most irritating thing was that those old guys also felt better. Some felt that they had slept more comfortably recently, and some felt that their old cough was not as serious this year. They each came to him wanting more.

But he didn’t even have anymore for himself. They still wanted it, and there was none!

However, this Uncle Gao was also a patient man. The last time he chatted with Ji Jianyun, he learned that he would come again in December. Thus, he would do a stake out for him.

Today, he stuck around. He spent almost all his money, and there was only dried persimmons at the end. He had no money to buy them. Fortunately, this young man was also a real man. He gave him half a jin, and told him to try it.

Ji Jianyun told him that he would come at the same time tomorrow. If he could not sell out his goods here, then he would take them to other markets.

However, if the goods could be sold out here, then Ji Jianyun did not have to go elsewhere. He was the most popular vendor here. Although the other markets were good, they were not like this one. Almost every time he came over, people came flocking.

In particular, these uncles and aunts were very respectful, and he also liked to do business with these retired uncles and aunts.

They were all retired workers and had a pension every month. For example, this Uncle Gao was 61 this year. He was previously a teacher. His wife had passed away many years ago. He had retired this year, but he had a fixed pension every month.

He had two sons and three daughters. The two sons worked in the Education Bureau. All three daughters were married and he heard their families were not bad.

He also had grandchildren. He had a big family. It was almost the New Year and he wanted to buy more to take back. There was a refrigerator at home, and the unfinished food could be placed in it. Even if they forgot to put it in the refrigerator, the cold air from outside would freeze it in one night.

The family had many mouths to feed, so the things he brought here to take back were actually not a lot. But, he only brought so much money today. The dried persimmons had been put off, and he had to buy the other stuff first.

He already had his own pension and his sons and daughters were filial. Uncle Gao had a lot of money in his hands.

He didn't have anything he liked doing before, but now he found something to spend his money on.

It was to buy delicious food. At his age, there were only a few years left to enjoy it, so if he didn’t hurry up to enjoy it, when would he have the time?

Moreover, he did not have the wrong impression about it. He felt that the products brought by this young soldier were really very good. The mutton was stewed and eaten warm, and the eggs and chicken were tastier than those elsewhere.

Ever since he bought things from Ji Jianyun and took it back to do it, he felt much healthier.

The other old guys probably feel the same way.

The older people were, the more they cherished life; and the richer they were, the more they wanted to enjoy happiness. Thus, Ji Jianyun had become a shop to live longer for this group of uncles and aunts.

Su Jindang has seen it happen today.

When he was done, he went with Ji Jianyun for a bowl of noodles. After that, they were ready to go back. Ji Jianyun asked, “Do you want to bring a refrigerator back?”

Ji Jianyun did not pay Su Jindang like how he did at the beginning. He sold the chickens and eggs to Su Jindang in bulk. As for the rent from before, there was no need to pay that any more.

Therefore, in the future, the business in the town was owned by Su Jindang, and Ji Jianyun was no longer involved.

It's fine being relatives, but this was related to business. If business and family could be separated, then it should happen. Otherwise, it was not going to be easy to be relatives.

Selling products wholesale directly to Su Jindang was good for the future of their families, and it would not cause any secret conflict.
