1536 Meeting the Cai Family Again
Chi Shuyan spent most of the night refining spirit tea. After midnight, she took a blanket and lay down on the couch to sleep.
When she woke up the next day, she remembered Qi Zhenbai, and subconsciously looked at the bed. However, she was the only one in the suite.
Chi Shuyan thought at first that the other party might be in the bathroom or elsewhere. After washing up and eating breakfast, there was still no sign of him.
The other party had most likely left first.
Chi Shuyan heaved an inexplicable sigh of relief at the other party’s sudden departure. If he could leave, that meant that he was fine. She felt that she and Qi Zhenbai, her ex-boyfriend, had broken up peacefully. However, it had been too long since they last met. If he hadn’t left, she really didn’t know what to say to him.
The other party took the initiative to leave, which saved her the embarrassment.
Chi Shuyan didn’t think much of it. After breakfast, she set up her stall in the same spot as before. When she headed over at 8:30am, there was already a long line in front of her stall.
The atmosphere was very lively when the people at the front of the line saw that the Master had arrived. Many people further down the line even had food baskets and had brought their families with them. Most of them even sat on praying mats on the ground.
Chi Shuyan couldn’t help but wonder if she should change her fortune-telling method.
For one thing, this was in case her teacher and her teacher’s parents came to get their fortunes read. Even if she wanted to read their fortunes, it wouldn’t be good to do so right away given how long the queue was.
On top of that, fortune-telling was a small matter, but it wasn’t good to affect everyone’s rest. What if the police came over at some point? She didn’t want to be carted off to the police station at a critical moment like this.
Thinking this, Chi Shuyan frowned. It hadn’t been a good idea to set up a stall here to read fortunes. Now that she was famous, she might as well go over to her teacher’s house and look for an opportunity. Wouldn’t it be better to get a recommendation?
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the blind man set up his stall as usual and glare at her. Chi Shuyan’s eyebrows relaxed a little as she got an idea, and she continued reading fortunes.
Not long after, the ten divinations were done. Chi Shuyan pondered for a moment before she dismissed the people who were still waiting in line. She said that she most likely wouldn’t come back tomorrow or the day after. Today was her last day, and she told everyone in line not to stay up late and wait any longer.
As soon as Chi Shuyan finished speaking, the people in the long line immediately exploded.
Because Chi Shuyan’s reputation in fortune-telling had spread these past few days, she was very popular. No one was willing when she suddenly said that she wouldn’t be setting up a stall anymore.
In particular, the repeat customers who had been able to avoid disaster thanks to Chi Shuyan’s fortune-telling now treated her like a ‘living immortal.’ Not to mention a few days, they were willing to wait here for a few months, a year, or even a few years.
Of course, most of the people here were skeptical. Seeing that her ten divinations for today were done, they sighed and dispersed, leaving behind mostly repeat customers.
One of them, the driver whom Chi Shuyan had helped avoid a car accident, had specially brought his relatives over today for Chi Shuyan to read their fortune. Seeing that today was the last day, he immediately asked emotionally, “Master, Master, if you’re not coming here anymore, where are you going? Can we follow and line up?”
Chi Shuyan took the initiative to explain, “I still have other business to attend to, and I don’t plan to set up a stall anywhere else. My stay in S City is temporary; it can be said that it was fate that we met. However, I will be returning to the capital in a few days. By the way, let me give you a piece of advice: Although fortune-telling can help you avoid disaster, it’s not good to do too many readings.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the driver’s expression changed. Chi Shuyan narrowed her eyes and looked at the driver’s relatives. Seeing that there weren’t any huge catastrophes, she said, “You’ve already avoided the disaster. Be steadfast in your behavior in the future. Nothing big will happen to your family.”
The driver wanted to say something, but hesitated. Chi Shuyan spoke first. “As for wealth, you will receive when you give. Okay, everyone, disperse!”
Since Chi Shuyan had already said so much, everyone could only scatter. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to ask the Master to read their fortunes – all these people who had stayed behind were those who had asked Chi Shuyan to read their fortunes before.
But the Master just said that it wasn’t good for them to get their fortunes read too many times, so no one dared to test it. They even took her words as gospel, mainly because her divinations were too accurate. They were afraid that if they were too greedy and asked too many questions, they would suffer a backlash.
Most of them scattered not long after that.
Chi Shuyan sat at her stall for a while longer. People still came over with requests, but Chi Shuyan refused them all.
In the eyes of the blind fortune teller on the side, Chi Shuyan was acting this way because she felt guilty and afraid that things had gotten too big.
Although many people had said that the young lady next to him was accurate, the blind fortune teller felt that these people had been arranged by the young lady herself – it could only be said that young people were too smart and too good at scamming others.
The blind divine fortune teller gritted his teeth; Chi Shuyan had robbed him of a lot of business in the last few days. Even if she refused to read fortunes now, which diverted a lot of the traffic to his stall, the blind divine fortune teller still felt terrible. He wondered if he should copy this young lady’s methods; he wouldn’t have to worry about his stall not becoming popular then.
Just as the blind fortune teller was planning to do so, he saw the young lady close the stall and leave. He was very happy that she had left early. When he heard that she wouldn’t be coming back, he was even happier and prayed that she would keep her word.
After closing the stall, Chi Shuyan wandered around the Fu residence as usual. She decided to find someone close to the Fu family and use this opportunity to get a recommendation in order to strike first at Zhao Junrong, that scumbag. This way, she wouldn’t have to waste time waiting stupidly every day for Zhao Junrong to come over to the blind fortune teller’s stall.
After walking around, Chi Shuyan picked the villa closest to the Fu residence. The two families lived so close together, so it was possible they really were friends.
Just as Chi Shuyan was thinking about waiting for someone near the villa, she heard cursing inside. The older woman’s voice sounded very unpleasant, with words like ‘sl*t’ being thrown around. The young woman didn’t say anything back, and only explained pitifully after a long while, “Mom, I won’t dare do it again. The child in my stomach really does belong to your Cai family. Mom, I beg you, let Youcai see me. The child in my stomach is really his, sob…”
The young woman cried miserably. After saying that, she turned to the side and said, “Sister Shufen, I beg you, give my husband back to me. I beg you, I’ll kneel down for you!”
When Chi Shuyan first heard this melodrama being played out in the villa, she thought of switching houses, or just going straight to the Fu residence. However, she was worried that the Fu family and her teacher wouldn’t believe her because they were worried that her motive wasn’t pure. Otherwise, she would have gone to look for them on the first day.
She was about to leave, when the old lady’s familiar voice rang out again. “You say that the child in your stomach really belongs to my Cai family, then just go back and let it grow to term. When this child is born in six months, and it really belongs to my Cai family, I’ll accept it. However, if you dare continue treating me and my son like fools, not to mention Youcai, I won’t let you off. Get lost, get out of my Cai house. Don’t taint Cai family land!”
Less than a minute later, Chi Shuyan saw the old lady drive the young woman out the door with a broom as she never stopped scolding her. Next to the old lady was an older, somewhat meek woman who was cautiously soothing the old woman in a low voice.
The more Old Madam Cai looked at this thoughtful ex-daughter-in-law, the more pleasing to the eye she found her. The more she looked at Li Tian, who had cheated on her son, the more she found her an eyesore. Seeing how she stood in front of the villa and wept pitifully, those who didn’t know better would really think that she, this old lady, was being mean and bullying this woman. The more Old Madam Cai thought about it, the angrier she became. She threw the broom at Li Tian, scaring her so much that the latter immediately ran away.
After chasing Li Tian away, Old Madam Cai was about to go back inside the villa, when she suddenly heard someone call out to her. Old Madam Cai was puzzled at first, but when she turned her head and saw that it was that incomparably accurate Master who had read her fortune, she was excited. Old Madam Cai immediately said solicitously, “Master, Master, is that you? Hurry and come in! Hurry and come inside for a cup of hot tea!” After saying that, the old lady was afraid that the Master would leave, so she immediately said to her ex-daughter-in-law in front of her, “Shufen, hurry and go in. Get the Master a cup of hot tea. I’ll entertain her first!”
