Chapter 119: Dirty Deal
Terrance advanced with absolute dominance to the second round of the event…..This overwhelming advantage made the second-place rich heir, who was hit by nine balls, pale in comparison.
In the eyes of most people, Terrance’s performance was not different from winning.
Growlithe gained great popularity, making many remember this tough little guy.
“Fr…friend.” During the halftime break of the second round, Terrance had just come out of the toilet when someone blocked his way.
“Anything I can help you with?” Looking at the tall and rich young heir in front of him, Terrance was surprised; it was his opponent for the second round.
The second round, the arena remained the same, but the rules changed to two Pokémon competing on stage. They could disturb each other’s opponent with their bodies but still couldn’t attack the tennis balls.
This person should be Terrance’s opponent in the upcoming battle for the “Heart Scale Accessory”.
Thinking of Growlithe’s personality, Terrance didn’t think it would lose. He had also seen the strength of the other participants, and they are far from its match.
“I want to talk to you about the second-round…” The rich young heir wore a troubled expression, but he was still smiling.
“What’s up?” Terrance looked puzzled.
“Friend, listen to me first. The thing is, that necklace…my girlfriend really likes it. I’ve promised to win it for her, but seeing your strength, I don’t have confidence in the upcoming match.” The rich young heir looked distressed, his attitude sincere as he anxiously looked at Terrance.
F*ck! Girlfriend!?
“No way!” Terrance vigorously shook his head. He had no intention of being a samaritan, especially for a precious “Heart Scale Accessory”.
“Wa…wait, hold on. I can offer something in return.” The rich young heir hurriedly explained, fearing Terrance might turn away and leave without giving him a chance.
“It’s not about the price. If they find that I intentionally lost to you, both our reputations will be damaged.” Terrance earnestly explained.
“Don’t worry about that. I’ll borrow a powerful Pokémon, and all you need to do is go easy on me, so I can smoothly win the championship.” The rich young heir glanced around, whispered to Terrance, and then handed him a box discreetly.
“I see your Growlithe’s strength is already impressive. Why not try evolving it? This is a high-quality Fire Stone; I believe it can help you.”
Uh… Terrance didn’t know what to say.
Should he praise the other party?
Indeed, a Fire Stone might not necessarily be as precious as the “Heart Scale” accessory. However, the quality of the Fire Stone the other party offered was unexpectedly excellent. The colors of this Fire Stone could convey a meaning that words struggled to express, much like the brilliance of the morning sun breaking through, intensely vibrant and pure.
An absolute treasure.
Terrance didn’t bother searching for a Fire Stone for Growlithe at the academy because the quality wasn’t satisfying. So, this unexpected offer was a pleasant surprise for him.
The rich young heir, afraid Terrance might be dissatisfied, continued, “As long as you help me earn respect in front of my girlfriend… afterward, I’ll give you this amount!!”
Looking at the raised finger, Terrance smiled happily, “It’s just a small favor, I will definitely help.”
Really… Terrance’s heart was blooming with joy. Even if he won the “Heart Scale Accessory”, he planned to sell it. This before him was a great favor, saving him a lot of trouble.
“That’s settled then. Thank you very much!” The rich young heir instantly beamed with joy. For him, material possessions were secondary; reputation and his girlfriend’s happiness were the most important.
On the luxurious cruise ship heading from Sinnoh to Kanto, a dirty deal was taking place in the toilet.
In the second-round, as expected, the rich young heir switched to a new Pokémon. Coupled with the performance that Terrance and Growlithe had rehearsed beforehand, everything proceeded seamlessly.
In the end, the two Pokémon fiercely competed, but unfortunately, the rich young heir displayed “superior skills”, and Terrance’s Growlithe, due to a mistake, narrowly lost. This left many who were cheering for Terrance feeling disappointed.
“Well done, with your acting……you will definitely go far in the future.” Terrance smoothed Growlithe’s fur and smiled.
Events like this continued to take place, filling the entire cruise ship’s voyage, giving every guest plenty of time to enjoy various pleasures. A small event like the one Terrence participated in did not attract much attention as time continued to slowly pass.
Receiving a high-quality Fire Stone was a pleasant surprise for Terrance. He hadn’t expected events hosted on such a grand cruise ship to be so high-end.
Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that Terrance, as the runner-up, surprisingly had a chance to receive a commemorative award. This left him both amused and bewildered.
Many trainers who performed well received awards. However, the so-called commemorative awards were really just souvenirs. Terence was not interested in them at all, so he just casually threw them into his backpack.
“Thank you for your continuous support of the Pokémon League…This is a limited-edition souvenir which is highly valuable that is released every year. Please cherish it.”
Of course, these were just formalities from the organizers. The value of such a souvenir wasn’t really that high. Terrance remained focused on his journey to Kanto. After three days of sailing, Terrance disembarked.
Location: Vermilion City.
Vermilion City, located at the sea inlet to the south, was an important sea port in the Kanto region. World-renowned luxury cruises like the S.S. Anne passed through here every year.
“Beep… beep… beep…”
“Is it Master Victor?”
Arriving at the Vermilion City Pokémon Center, Terrance once again used the public phone to contact Master Victor. Currently, Master Victor was in the Alola region, studying the Pokémon forms in another part of the world. He was always on the move, conducting his academic research.
This made Terrance sigh. The status of a Top-Breeder was indeed well-earned. The mindset of constantly being in different places, studying Pokemon, was not something that most people could possess.
“Oh? In the Kanto Region already? Good. I’ve already contacted an old friend. Just go to him directly; he’ll help you with the recommendation.”
After some talks, Terrance also expressed his intention to undergo the Intermediate Breeder exam. This made Victor smile proudly, exclaiming that a 12-year-old Intermediate Breeder was about to be born.
However, what puzzled Terrance was that Master Victor had been supportive all along, providing him with many conveniences and help. Yet, there was a feeling of being forgotten, with very little contact between them. At first, he thought Master Victor had the intention of taking him as a disciple, but there was still no sign of it. Was it that Master Victor had forgotten, or had Terrance still not reached his standards?
After hanging up the phone, Terrance checked the time and planned to hit the road again.
