236 An Extraordinary Birthday

“You’d better prepare something that makes me happy,” Christian said in a cold voice.

Ella pursed her lips tightly and held out the gift box in her hand nervously. Christian watched her every move. The tightness he felt in his heart suddenly disappeared.

He was happy because Ella had prepared something for him.

He didn’t know how this woman could easily annoy him but at the same time also easily make him happy.

That’s what made Ella different from other women.

“I hope you like it,” Ella said seriously, handing the box in her hand.

“Open it for me,” Christian said casually, not realizing that his voice now sounded overjoyed.

Ella nodded and opened the blue box.

Unfortunately, the contents of the box made her curse in her heart and make fun of herself as a fool. Why should she give it without checking its contents first?

.....

Also, why did Nathan have this kind of thing?

Christian looked at the barbie doll in Ella’s hand and raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Is this the gift you prepared for me?”

Did Ella think he was stupid?

“This... I really didn’t mean to.” Ella stepped back. Her gaze was fixed on Nathan, silently asking him for help.

Nathan immediately understood the signal from Ella’s eyes and hurriedly said, “Dad, while I was shopping, a little girl accidentally put the box in my basket. It’s not the old woman’s fault. She didn’t mean to give you a doll as a gift.”

Ella who was listening to that could only shake her head in resignation. She felt that her fate would only get worse. Nathan’s defense would not save her, but instead pushed her down the abyss faster.

That’s right. Christian’s face looked even more gloomy after listening to Nathan’s explanation.

“You used someone else’s stuff for my gift?” Christian thought Ella would prepare a special gift for him because today is his birthday. Plus, Ella had disappointed him before.

Christian was pretty sure Ella would prepare the best gift for him.

But in reality, Ella didn’t prepare anything. Ella didn’t care at all.

“This is a misunderstanding,” Ella swallowed her saliva. She was sure Christian would come up to her in a minute and kick her out.

“You didn’t prepare any gifts for me?” Christian got to his feet and looked at Ella’s face intently. “Don’t you even know that today is my birthday?”

“I...” Ella was already unable to step back. It felt like her legs couldn’t move anymore. With a pitiful face, she looked at Christian. “Recently, there are too many problems bothering me. And I.... forgot.”

Ella’s lips were slightly pouted, looking like a child admitting her mistake in fear.

Usually, this appearance could make Christian’s heart melt. But unfortunately, Christian’s disappointment was too deep because today was his birthday. “If only you had made me happy when you were in the office, maybe I wouldn’t care even if you didn’t prepare a gift. But what a shame...”

Christian’s words seemed to throw Ella into the north pole, making her cold.

She could feel Christian’s anger. And also disappointment...

“I just didn’t want to lie to you,” Ella clenched her fists and lowered her head.

“It’s better if you lie to me!” Christian’s loud voice made Ella’s body tremble.

Christian was seen holding back his anger by clenching his fists tightly. He didn’t want to hurt this woman in front of him and didn’t want to do anything to her. But his gaze at Ella was as sharp as a knife.

Ella’s words made him feel that he would never be able to get to Ella. Christian feels like he could lose Ella at any moment.

Nathan who was on the side could only be stunned.

It’s just a small problem. If you don’t like the gift the old woman gave you, you can ask her to come out and buy a new one now. Isn’t it the easiest way to solve the problem?

What is the need for this anger?

Nathan didn’t understand at all.

“Father?” Nathan wanted to step up and help Ella, but the pressure his father was putting on right now was too great. Nathan could only open his mouth for a long time, without being able to make the slightest sound...

The butler who was observing this scene couldn’t help but feel both disappointed and worried. Finally, a ringing bell broke the awkwardness among them.

The cake they ordered finally arrived.

Christian doesn’t really like sweets, but his son does. Therefore, every birthday, he will order a cake. Not for himself, but for his son.

The butler could only thank his greedy Young Master that this cake saved them from harm. He immediately took the cake to the family room.

“Master, the cake has arrived. How about eating it to fill your stomach?” said the butler. Unfortunately, the mood in the family room still hasn’t improved.

Nathan gathered all his courage and took his father’s hand. “Dad, I’m hungry.”

The time showed 4 pm. It was Nathan’s time for a snack. At that moment, Christian told the butler to cut the cake that just arrived.

Ella breathed a sigh of relief seeing it. It’s hard to deal with a man like Christian.

But the problem is, she doesn’t really have a gift for Christian. And it looks like Christian won’t let her go and buy a new one either.

So what should she do?

The cake that Christian ordered was a two-stack cake with a size that was not too big. Maybe Christian doesn’t want to order a big one because he’s worried his son will eat too much.

Nathan took the plate containing the cake from the butler and gave it to Ella. “Old woman, give it a try. It’s very tasty.”

Ella accepted it with a faint smile on her face.

It had been a long time since she had last celebrated someone else’s birthday, let alone her own. There was a feeling of longing in her heart.

Too bad, now no one remembers her birthday, not even her family.

Christian looks at Ella with annoyance on his face. His brow furrowed when he saw Ella idling with a blank gaze.

What really happened to this woman? Why is this woman so gloomy on his birthday?

Shouldn’t this be a happy day?

“Hey, give it a try!” Nathan spooned the cake into her mouth and said with his mouth full. “The cakes from this shop are really delicious, you know.”

Ella nodded slightly. She took the small fork and ate the cake slowly. Then she chewed in silence.

Suddenly, Christian’s cell phone rang, breaking the silence in the room.

Christian looked at the phone with a frown. But the photo he received made him grip the phone tightly.

“Ella, I see that you’ve really prepared such an awesome gift for me.”
