241 Chapter 240: Forgotten Sacrifices

“The invaders have finally stepped foot on the central continent and they already have the entire continent surrounded. With them is a fleet of over hundreds of thousands of ships” Blink reported with a stern look but Damon seemed indifferent towards his words.

His eyes slowly closed and when they opened, he couldn’t see Blink anymore but the enemies making contact with the continent.

It seems like an invisible pair of blood-red eyes peeking at the enemy activities but suddenly an unknown veil rose from nowhere, blocking his site.

Damon calmly opened his eyes again and once again Blink was visible, kneeling in front of him.

“The old gods are there as well…. So are the dragon race’s upper echelons” Damon said with an almost indifferent look on his face, outside a very deep frown.

The enemy had come in full force but this is to be expected. They should even be grateful the enemy needed a decade just to reach them. If they had come much earlier, Damon probably wouldn’t even be in the condition to resist them.

“You cannot get involved now… these people mocked you and hate you, so let their gods be the first to make a move…. You should focus on conserving your strength for when it’s really needed” Blink said with a stern look.

After seeing everything Damon sacrificed just to gain this empire and seeing everyone turn on him was heartbreaking. As someone who considers Damon his father and master, Blink was greatly hurt by this and hasn’t made a move against the citizens of this empire because he knew Damon wouldn’t hesitate to kill him if he acts recklessly.

Also, right now everyone has reached the angel realm and has accumulated as much power of fate as Damon. The only difference was they had a body capable of combat while Damon was still stuck with this weak, damaged vessel.

.....

If anyone should be throwing himself at the front line anymore, it definitely won’t be his master.

Damon’s dark eyes had a golden light at the center of it all. Golden veins with pulsating life energy were visible in his system. Not even Cyrus would remove them completely since they still carried the consciousness of their master.

Sighs….

Damon let out a deep sigh while looking at Blink. Things didn’t exactly go as planned, especially since he had grown apart from the rest of his team. It seemed like the hatred of the world was placed on him while the others got all the accolades and glory for his work.

He understood why Blink hated Cyrus and the rest now for leaving him in this condition and never attempting to clear the air concerning this issue.

“Inform the empire Guardian and we have done our part… have all members do the palace of the dead to retreat and return home. No one is allowed to get involved in this war until he says so. We will wait until they cry my name and bow their heads in prayer” Damon said slowly and coldly.

His voice seemed to indicate he wasn’t speaking to Blink but to himself.

... Holy church.....

A youthful-looking man in a great temple built with gold could be seen. He was seated in a cross-legged position and around him were riches of the world.

“Master!” a young golden-haired youth ran in and fell on one knee.

The youth had the sides of his head shaved properly and across his left face as a scare.

“What is it, Argon? Have you forgotten my teachings… if you wish to succeed me as the master of this place, you must be able to smile in the face of danger” Cyrus’ voice was indifferent but it carried a soothing effect that made the young man calm down.

“It’s not that he doesn’t want to calm down… it’s just that the things he has seen far surpass his expectations…. the old gods and the ancestral dragons have arrived. The continent and surrounding. It’s only a matter of time before the war begins” Gin’s amused voice rang across the room and only then did Cyrus open his eyes.

He seems to wear a deep frown just like Damon once had before looking towards the curvy figure dressed in light green robes that revealed her curves and bumps.

“Is he still not making a move?” Cyrus couldn’t help but ask while looking toward the direction of the palace of death.

“Blink got the news earlier than any of us but he is yet to make a move. It seems he seriously plans on sitting out of this one” Elsa said with a bitter smile.

Damon’s condition was no new thing to them. They knew what led to it and knew why they chose to stay out of it. The whole goal of this was to divert the prayers of people to them the new gods. Only with the power of fate can they grow.

To set the foundations for this empire, someone needed to do the dirty job and Damon stepped up without hesitation.

The outcome should have been obvious from the start. Seeing as people no longer wanted to pray to him, they picked the next best options. Defending Damon publicly will ruin everything they have struggled to achieve so far.

Even a fool could tell this would mean these people may go back to the old gods since they disapprove of all the current gods.

You can take a horse to the stream but you can’t force the horse to drink water.

He can always force the people to stop praying to the old gods but he couldn’t force them to pray to him.

“We use that same excuse to cover our tracks at shitty friends and that’s what he plans to do now yet you all seem worried?” Gin sneered as he looked at the two.

Flap!

Without giving them the chance to respond, Gin turned and allowed his robes to flap to the wind.

“Prepare your forces… and have the empire start making preparations. With or without the help of the palace of death, we will protect this empire” Gerald said coldly while he looked towards the direction of the palace of death with a stern look on his face.
