Night of the Broken Gliph

Mung Si’s eyes opened wide with a sharp gaze as she leapt from tree to tree like a ghost. She could clearly feel the violent movements of the ground and the roars of the Giant Demonic Spider. All these signs indicated that a Giant Demonic Spider was chasing Mung Si.

Indeed, a ferocious spider was chasing Mung Si like a bulldozer which knocked down all the trees in its way. At the same time, all eight of its eyes were cold and terrifying.

The Giant Demonic Spider was a unique species in which female spiders were generally stronger but less intelligent than males. Therefore, when Wong Chow Yip disappeared, Mung Si, who was near him, naturally became the spider’s next target.

After the previous fight, especially with her having to precisely control the Fire Phoenix, she was largely exhausted. She was currently drained and on the verge of fainting. In other words, the mighty, powerful tigress was now old and weak, barely able to draw a gliph, much less her personal gliph. The physical strength she gained from her daily training was the only thing she could now rely on.

Boom! The spider lifted its long legs and smashed it against Mung Si’s back! It quickly sent her flying into several large trees!

Pff! It left an obvious dent in Mung Si’s back, but she shockingly seemed unaffected by the injury or the collision with the trees. She simply stood up and fled for her life! Even the spider watched her in surprise before chasing her once more with a roar.

She seemed fine, but only Mung Si knew how dangerous her situation was. Without any defensive skill or equipment, there was no way for her to survive the spider’s deadly attack without injury.

However, there were special bodies which came in different forms. For example, Chui Yim’s Heaven Spring Body. Mung Si had what was known as Ember, ranked sixth in the Earth Body Rank.

The Ember Body was a very impressive body form that would evolve as the cultivator grew. It allowed the cultivator to survive death once but would lose its effects within ten years after activation. Legends said that the number of death immunities grew along with the user’s cultivation, and its ultimate form was Nirvana, ranked fifth on the Heaven Rank!

Mung Si scowled as she felt her Ember Body activate. She had survived thanks to the death immunity and would die if she received another attack! At the edge of life and death, Mung Si, who was at the point of blacking out, forced herself up to escape with all she had! 

Sadly, the seriously injured Mung Si could not outrun the fast spider. Mung Si’s sight turned blurry as she was filled with indignance. Am I going to die here as a single-gliphic gliphist?

Before she dropped to the ground, she saw a shiny bald head before her.

“Ugh──” Chui Yim had just left Sir Beauty’s graveyard and arrived here after sensing the huge energliph fluctuations. He discovered Mung Si’s sorry figure and the terrifying spider chasing after her. At this moment, he didn’t hesitate to pick up Mung Si before turning around and fled with her.

“Huff…Huff…” Chui Yim felt the difference in his body after becoming a single-gliphic gliphist. Because he trained with Chor Kwong Laan and Wong Chow Yip, he didn’t have the time to feel and discover the changes in his body after becoming a gliphist. Unlike in the past, running now felt simpler to Chui Yim, but he didn’t have time to dwell on it as the spider chasing them was too fast!

He turned around abruptly and prepared to fire the Thousand Mechanism Arrows at the spider.

Cling cling cling cling…

Chui Yim was stunned. The Thousand Mechanism Arrows struck the spider’s carapace, but there was no noticeable effect! 

It looked down at the ant-like humans beneath it and swung its sharp leg towards them!

Boom!

Chui Yim, who was carrying Mung Si on his shoulder barely dodged the attack. “This girl is really my jinx! Just how did she attract such a scary beast to me?!”

“Chui Yim?” Just then, Chui Yim heard a voice as a teenager emerged from a nearby bush. He was very happy to see Chui Yim. “You’re here!”

“Kam boy!” Chui Yim yelled. “Save me!”

The teenager was none other than Kam Chin Kee. To be honest, besides Chui Yim, he didn’t care much about anybody else dying here. He and Chui Yim weren’t related by blood, but they were both from the Sallow Continent and were closer than actual brothers. Kam Chin Kee had been searching for Chui Yim since he was worried for his safety, and he used the tracker in the statue he previously gave to Chui Yim.

But the last thing he expected was for Chui Yim to be so “lucky” as to meet the other spider!

“I’m drained as well!” Kam Chin Kee looked at him helplessly and joined Chui Yim in running away. The spider looked like it was fuming, but there was only a cold murderous intent in its eight cold eyes. What was worse was that the spider predicted the teenager’s path and shot out its webs accordingly!

“Such a cunning spider!” Chui Yim angrily shouted towards the pale Kam Chin-Kee, who was similarly weakened after using the Puppet Bomb.

“Hold on. I saw several classmates disappear after being wrapped by an unknown energliph. It felt just like Mister Cheuk’s energliph movement. It should be him who’s saving us one by one.” Kam Chin Kee said while dodging swiftly. A spider web shot past him and landed on the ground before him.

Just as both of them were busy running for their lives, somebody spoke coldly into Chui Yim’s ears. “Put me down. I can walk by myself.” The warm breath against Chui Yim’s ears made his ear feel numb.

He turned around to meet Mung Si’s gaze. She repeated herself. “Put me down.”

“Stay still if you can barely stay conscious!” Chui Yim rolled his eyes,

“You!” Mung Si wanted to fight him, but she realised her body felt so weak that she couldn’t move. She didn’t even have much energliph left after escaping. Mung Si had never had close contact with any guy, and her face turned red when she felt herself being carried by Chui Yim.

It was hard to find someone who could still think about such things when their life was in danger. But no matter what, she stopped retorting.

Kam Chin Kee quietened when he felt the spider near them. “I’ll be the bai──” He turned to Chui Yim, who threw Mung Si at him like a ball, which he caught reflexively.

 “Take her and leave first. I’ll catch up later.” Chui Yim spoke calmly, taking a turn and disappearing into the bushes as if he saw something!

The spider hesitated after seeing its prey separate, finally choosing to chase Chui Yim. It was intelligent enough to know that the weak-looking humans weren’t necessarily easy prey, so it pursued the lone human.

It chased after Chui Yim like a tank, tearing down countless trees in the process!
