When I opened my eyes, I was staring at a plain white ceiling with lights so bright I thought I had moved onto the afterlife. After laying still for a few moments I sat up and took in my surroundings, it was definitely a hospital but what I didn't know was how I was still alive. The pain felt so real and when I felt my chest there was no gaping hole where the blackfang direwolf had slashed me, I checked under my shirt to double check and there were no signs that I had been wounded. The next things I did was put on my glasses but for some strange reason my vision went blurry when looking through the lens. I did a double take and checked again and sure enough whatever the doctors did had completely cured my vision. The following moment the doctor walked in and introduced themselves and filled me in on what had happened.
Apparently after I blacked out, a member of the Incubus Guild found me collapsed in the back of the alley without a scratch on me. He found it miraculous that a monster hadn't found me considering the bodies of three students were found not far from where I was found.
The minute I heard this I was floored. What happened to the wolf? What was that strange light? What about the crazy grim reaper looking thing I saw? I had more questions but these were at the forefront.
The doctor went on to tell me that they found no physical issues with me, but because I was collapsed within the rift they needed to keep me overnight for observation. The doctor said he would get started on my discharge papers, and the next two visitors were two faces I was happy to see.
The first was my cousin, Corinna, she was my legal guardian who took care of me following my parents' disappearance, but she felt more like a sister due to how close in age we were. She went through so much trouble to help keep us afloat and even took on multiple jobs to be able to afford living. We were the only family either of us had left, due to her losing her parents in a gate break.
My other visitor was my childhood friend Krista, we had known eachother since we were little, even before my parents disappeared and she's always been someone I could count on to help me out in a pinch. We used to always fight because she was taller than me, up until highschool where I shot up like a weed. She was an awakened like me and because of her ability we were able to speak about anything and everything without having to worry about outside ears hearing what was said, because she's a telepath, her ability allows her to speak directly into someone's mind and also to read other people's thoughts. A lot more useful than my ability.
She ran up to me with her blonde hair tied in a messy bun and shouted, "Milo you idiot! You need to be careful!" She tried to act tough but I could see tears welling up in her ice blue eyes. As she hugged me.
"Easy," I said cheekily, "If you aren't careful I may fall apart."
Corinna on the other hand was already bawling, she was always a big softie and the thought of almost losing me seemed to take a large toll on her. After chatting about what happened, they were both shocked to hear about what had happened to Danny, I chose to leave out the fact that I had been struck by some strange light, as I was just as puzzled as to what it could be about.
"The guy had it coming to him," Krista said, "but I can't help but feel bad for how gruesome he went out."
I felt the same way, I hated the guy's guts but I never wish death upon anyone, unless they threaten to harm the ones I care about. Just as they were about to leave, to talk to the doctor about my discharge a strange box popped into my vision.
"Huh? What does this mean"
The box had words on it that read…
