The king was brutally killed by an old man, and with that single death, I was able to secure the loyalty of the people. I had been planning this for a long time, and the opportunity presented itself. I ordered my intelligence variant minions to bring gold from the palace, and they did so swiftly and efficiently. The gold was piled high in front of me, glimmering in the sunlight that streamed through the windows. I distributed the gold among the people, including a chest made of gold that was fit for a king.
After distributing the gold, I asked the people if they wanted to come with me to my city, or if they wanted to stay in this place. They were ready to come with me, their new king. I then ordered my intelligence variant minions to make arrangements for travel. I wanted to leave this place, and quickly.
I went to the palace, a giant building with a dome on top. As I walked through the halls, I was amazed by all the decorations and the high-quality cloth used to decorate the court. The palace was grand and opulent, and it was clear that the fallen king had spared no expense in making it a reflection of his power and wealth.
I approached the throne, the seat of the fallen king, and called a brute force minion to join me. The brute force minion was holding a mallet, a weapon that suited them. With the minion present, I took the mallet and struck the throne, breaking it in half. The sound of wood splintering echoed throughout the palace, and I smiled and roared, causing the whole palace to shake. I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that the old king was gone and that a new one had taken his place.
As I was about to leave, I noticed a child hiding in a spot where no one would have guessed. The child was hiding behind a tapestry, and he was small and scared, but I knew that he was the son of the fallen king. I ordered an intelligence variant minion to bring the boy to me. He was shaking as he was brought before me. I looked at him and said, "Your father is dead boy, now what will you do?" He glared at me with fury in his eyes and replied, "I will sit on this throne and collect power, and when I am strong enough, I will come for your head."
I was taken aback by the boy's boldness, but I covered it with a sarcastic laughter and asked him, "How are you going to do that? I am taking all of your people, all of your wealth and leaving you with nothing but the dead meat of your father." I then turned to my minions and ordered them to take the boy away and to make sure that he was well taken care of, but to also make sure that he would never be able to challenge me for the throne. I knew that the boy could be a potential threat, and I would have to keep an eye on him, but for now, I had bigger things to worry about. I had a kingdom to rule.
"I will rebuild from this fallen city. I will bring new people, and build a better city than my father. Remember, I wont kill you because you killed my father. I will kill you because you killed my king. Remember this face, I will be coming for you," he said with a fierce determination in his voice as he took out a small dagger. "You might find it difficult to recognize me when I grow up. So, I will make it easy for you," he added as he made a deep cut on his right cheek. I was taken aback by his resolve and knew that he would be a formidable opponent in the future.
Instead of leaving him alive, I thought about killing him. I told two intelligence variants who were present there with me to tie him to the throne. They tied him up but he still shouted and struggled to break free. I handed the mallet back to the brute force minion and ordered him to finish the boy. I turned around and began walking out of the palace, but as I did, I heard a sound of a thud and a drop of blood fell on my side. I felt a sense of satisfaction mixed with sadness because I didn't want to kill that boy, but I knew it was necessary in the battle for the throne.
I instructed them to leave all the decoration of the court room there and return to the city now. Chloe approached me, wanting to see the palace from inside, but I told her to come with me. She disregarded my request and insisted on going inside, which made me furious as I didn't want her to see what I had done to the prince.
"Let's go now," I shouted at her. It was the first time I had ever shouted at her and she looked at me for a second before returning to her horse. She mounted and started riding out of the city, following the citizens who were looking very happy.
I also got on my horse and began our journey back to the city. We didn't stop at the outpost because there wasn't anything there. I ordered one of the intelligence variants to go fast and bring out all the other minions inside the castle, leaving only the number of minions I had sent for the early settlement.
They were waiting for us outside when we arrived and we began our journey back to the city. Chloe wasn't by my side as I had shouted at her, and she looked upset. I knew I would have to address this when we got home.
As we rode back, I noticed that Chloe was walking by the new citizens and two children were riding with her on her horse. I was happy to see her interacting with the new people and bringing them hope. The intelligence variant informed me that the total number of citizens was around 1600.
We arrived at the city during noon and saw that the outside wall and its moat had been completed. The moat was full of water, the only difference between this moat and the moat inside was that this one didn't have the razor-sharp wood spears on the bottom to kill people who jumped in. The city was bustling with activity as the new citizens settled in and began rebuilding their lives. I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment as I looked upon the city, knowing that I had made a difference in the lives of so many people.
