Zhan Liling walked in carrying a bottle of slightly chilled water and water glass in her hands.
Smiling at him, she replied, "Mr. Fang, that's your dinner."
Fang Bingwen looked up to see her smiling face, but he didn't look in the least satisfied with her response.
In fact, he was staring at her like she was an idiot. Did he tell her that he didn't know it was his dinner?
When Zhang Liling saw that he was still staring at her with a questioning glare, she hurriedly put down the thing in her hand to explain.
"I prepared pasta for you as a thank you gift. The Chef also prepared another dish for your dinner."
'You cooked for me and he also cooked for me, is this some kind of a competition?" He asked with a raised brow.
Her thin lips pursed in a reminder of the scene that happened in the kitchen earlier.
"Mr. Fang, it's not my fault. I told the chef that I would take care of your meals tonight but he insisted on carrying out his duties. Also, I didn't want to give up on my initial plans so…"
Her complaining voice trailed off towards the end, causing Fang Bingwen to lock his astonished gaze on her.
He didn't even know what to say to her and just continued ogling her.
Finally, after a minute has passed, he retracted his gaze to gaze upon the food that was served before him.
Two different people made different dishes for him in the same kitchen and even served them at the same time. Now he was conflicted as to which one to eat first.
Just when he was contemplating which one to eat first as his gaze moved between the two dishes, Zhang Liling gave him a suggestion.
Seeing his conflicted gaze, she hurriedly sat on the chair on his left side with a blooming smile spread across her face.
Pushing the pasta to his front, she said, "Mr. Fang, you haven't eaten pasta in a long time, also, it will turn cold fast and it won't suit your palate then."
She was giving him reasons to eat the food she prepared first.
Fang Bingwen released a long sigh before picking up his fork while she watched him in anticipation to see which food he would touch first.
Zhang Liling's heart raced in her chest as her eyes peered closely at him.
She was acting just like a newly married wife looking upon her husband.
Mr. Fang frowned when he noticed her long gaze following his every action, but then he chose to ignore her.
Finally, he dug the pasta with the fork, earning an interjection of surprise from her.
"Yes!" Zhang Liling exclaimed excitedly with her arm raised in the air.
But when she felt the strong gaze on her, she hurriedly brought her arm down as the smile on her face slowly dissolved.
"Did you make a bet with the Chef?" Mr. Fang asked in-between chewing, with the fork pointed at the pasta.
"No." She denied it immediately.
Mr. Fang was trying to explain the reason she seemed so happy that he touched her food first, but since she denied his guess, he let her be.
"If you want me to eat this food in peace, go away and come back after I must have left." He instructed as he rolled the pasta with his fork before sending it into his mouth.
"Yes," Zhang Liling agreed before getting up obediently and turning to leave with a triumphant smile plastered on her face.
"Zhang Liling." He suddenly called out with a calm gaze and she turned around to respond. "Hope you are not going out to brag to the chef?" He asked, surprising her.
She was completely taken aback that he would ask that kind of question, but she smiled and assured him that she wouldn't do so.
"I wouldn't dare to brag."
He nodded before adding, "Next time, let the chef do his work. Don't cook for me unless it's a special instruction from me."
Fang Bingwen felt it wasn't right for her to snatch the duties of his domestic helpers.
She wasn't his wife, so doing something like that had an image that didn't dwell well with him. Fortunately, Zhang Liling didn't go on to argue with him.
"Okay, Mr. Fang." She said before turning to leave finally.
As he chewed on his food softly, his gaze followed her till she completely disappeared from his sight.
A few minutes later, Mr. Fang was done eating and stood up from his seat to leave.
He cleared the plate Zhang Liling served him with. And after making sure the other dish the chef prepared won't have any dire consequences on his stomach later, he ate up half of it before abandoning it.
When Zhang Liling came back some minutes later to see that he cleared her plate, a satisfied smile spread across her face.
She felt proud of herself while clearing the plates.
When she got to the kitchen, she made sure the Chef saw the plates before taking care of them.
Her little actions spoke louder than her silence.
Because Zhang Liling didn't want to waste the food and as there was still space left in her stomach, she finished the food Mr. Fang remained before doing the dishes in the sink.
After she was done drying the plates and keeping them away, she opened the double-door refrigerator to pick out a bottle of water,
Taking the stairs, she went directly to Mr. Fang's bedroom.
Reaching out her hand, she knocked twice on the door before hurriedly placing her ear on the door to listen for any sound.
She didn't want to offend him, not after his mood had improved greatly.
She also wanted to be very careful to not walk in when he was undressing just in case he wasn't using his walk-in closet.
A second passed and without hearing any response, she reached out to slightly bend the door handle before pushing it open and helping herself inside.
