A gentle and elegant yet somewhat mocking laugh left Lilith's lips.
"Ohoho, dear me~ Did I scare you there? Why are you suddenly so tense?"
Adam took a deep breath, taking a hold of his erratic emotions, and his thoughts began to accelerate.
Lilith in the myths was truly a dangerous woman but she rarely attacked someone directly. Adam may be from the lineage of Prime Adam, the father of Cain and the first human, but she had never hurt any of them. She would use lies and deceit to have what she wished.
A human who was more devilish than a true devil. That was how Lilith was depicted in the mythos.
Of course, nothing said that she was the true Lilith or that the myth of Lilith was actually real in the first place. But currently, there was just one thing that mattered to him.
When he released the breath he had been holding onto for a while, he was noticeably more relaxed and calm. His lips formed a calm and good-natured smile as he gave a somewhat awkward but still proper bow in answer to her curtsey. As a modern man and an ordinary one at that, he was not used to the tradition of the nobility.
"I am sorry if I may have appeared rude to you, madam. Your presence was simply a bit too overwhelming for me."
Lilith's eyes twinkled with a sheen of emotions as she looked at Adam and scrutinized his reactions.
"Unlike your grandfather, you are a funny guy, I must say."
To her reply, the only thing Adam could do was cough awkwardly in response. He had never really thought about it as he unconsciously always avoided thinking about his father's side. But when one went back at it, his paternal grandfather was literally the first human to have ever existed in reality.
Just how long had this business been ongoing, he idly wondered. He was not even able to wager a guess at this point.
"I do not exactly like or even know much about my father's side of the family."
Lilith smirked after hearing him respond, "I guess Cain can not really be considered as the model father of the year. Or the millennia for that matter."
She took a few steps toward him and only stopped when she was standing right in front of Adam. A sultry light shone in her eyes as she examined him from head to toe.
Adam felt a weird chill run through his spine seeing Lilith glance at her like that. It was as though he had been completely stripped naked and even the deepest part of his self was being observed by the woman in front of him. But, he was completely unable to do anything to prevent it.
"Oh? You noticed already? I used something equivalent to your Eyes of Truth on you. Though at a much lower level. After all, I am pretty far from enlightenment in the mind realm."
She then directed an innocent smile toward him, a smile that could only make Adam even more vigilant about her, "You aren't angry at me, right? After all, you are the one who used it on me first."
Adam could not complain about the injustice of her argument nor did he even want to.
In the end, he could simply sigh and keep responding to her in a polite tone, "I am sorry. Every second in this place is extremely precious to me. Do you have anything, in particular, you wish to say to me? If not then I will have to leave."
Lilith showed a surprised expression on her face before nodding her head, "Limited time? With your…"
She stopped herself from speaking further and just nodded as though she had finally come to an understanding. "I see. Indeed, it has yet to awaken in you. I guess this is why you still felt so much like a human rather than what you should be. Huh, interesting."
Adam frowned. He hated when people came out of nowhere, gave half sentences then vanished like it wasn't their problem after creating it in the first place.
It was even more particularly annoying for him because he felt like what she was about to say there was an important piece of information about him that he desperately sought for…
"Your frustrated expression is so cute~ Honestly, I wouldn't mind telling you about this. In fact, there is nothing I do not know about Cain and the power as well as the curse that flows in your blood. But I have no particular incentive to answer you now do I?"
His eyes narrowed in thought and he spoke, not forgetting to be polite to her still, "What do you want?"
"Give me your book— Genesis. You have something that should not be in the hands of a mere kid."
She licked her lips and grinned as she spoke those terrifying words and looked at his body with those eyes of hers, ones that were able to see through him like nothing, trying to find where Genesis might be.
It was then… Her eyes slowly enlarged and the expression of surprise on her face became much more genuine than anything she had shown to him till now.
"You… You already partially assimilated with it?"
pαпdα Йᴏνê1,сòМ This time her words, her tone, her face, everything about her seemed much much more genuine. Her expression— it was a mix of both wonder and disappointment as well as a sort of expectation for something that eluded the young boy.
Adam didn't even try to use his Eyes of Emphaty on her. He had not forgotten the warning she had given him. Lilith had been calm and polite to him until now. Albeit a little provoking and a bit of a tease. He didn't know if it would stay this way if he ignored her warning once again.
"That crazy woman seriously went and did it, huh?"
Lilith nodded and turned around cheerfully, having seemingly lost all interest in the continuity of their discussion.
"Ah."
She then stopped and turned around.
"Let me give you a piece of advice. Of course, whether you listen to it or not is up to you…"
