William noticed the look on Fir's face and let out a low, gravelly chuckle that echoed throughout the room.
"Kid, never underestimate your elders," he chuckled. "Don't think that just because you're young and powerful that you're invincible."
Fir's ego was hit by the insinuation.
"I'm not underestimating you, but I know how strong I am," he replied, his voice laced with a hint of defiance. He remembered how easily he took care of those werewolves. So he doubted that this old man would be stronger than them. He could not even sense any power coming from him.
William merely shook his head.
"Are you really strong, or do you just think you're strong?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "Let's see where that confidence is coming from."
He gestured for Fir to come forward.
-Swooooosh !
Suddenly everything around Fir slowed down as he moved with lightning speed towards William. He planned to go behind the old man and scare him.
But William wasn't impressed at all.
"Too predictable," he said, shrugging. With quick reflexes, he turned around and drew his gun, pointing it exactly where Fir was about to stop, as if he had predicted his thoughts.
Bang!
The sound of the revolver echoed throughout the room, and Fir felt a sharp pain in his right ear. His hand flew up to touch it, and when he looked down, he saw blood staining his fingertips.
In that split second, William had shown him that speed wasn't everything.
"You're dead if I was serious," he said, the smoke from the revolver's barrel curling around him like a devil's grin. He spun the gun in his hand a few times, twirling it like a baton, before sliding it back into his holster.
Fir on the other hand stood there, stunned, his eyes fixed on William. He had been so sure that he was faster, stronger, better. But how did this weak looking old man do it ?
William could see the shock written all over Fir's face and he savored the moment. He wanted to humble this kid, to strip away his arrogance and teach him the importance of respect. The world was full of powerful beings, and overconfidence could easily lead to an early grave.
With a deep breath, William rose from his seat and gestured for Fir to follow him.
"Come with me, young blood," he spoke with a firm voice.
Fir could only nod in response; his ears were still ringing from the gunshot. He would be an idiot to doubt him after what he saw.
While walking, William arched a brow at Fir's baffled expression and couldn't resist a chuckle.
"Do you have any idea why Evangeline brought you here?" he asked.
pαndα`noνɐ1--сoМ "No," He shook his head.
"Are you still wondering how I was able to land a shot on you, despite being a mere human?" William pressed on.
Fir's eyes widened.
"Wait, you're just a human?" he blurted out. Judging by William's earlier display of skill, Fir had assumed that he was a supernatural being.
William laughed heartily at his reaction.
" Just human ? You supernaturals always underestimate us humans. Tell me, if supernatural beings are so superior, why haven't they claimed dominance over the planet?" he asked, his tone laced with sarcasm.
Fir paused to consider.
"Is it because of technology?" he guessed. He lost his memories but he was still aware of a lot of common knowledge.
William shook his head.
"Do you think we had such advanced technology in the past?" he countered.
Fir was taken aback by William's words. He had never really thought about how humans came to dominate the planet despite being physically weaker than supernatural beings. It was a question that had never crossed his mind before, but now he couldn't help but ponder it.
William noticed his puzzlement and decided to explain further.
"It's because of adrenaline manipulation,"
"Adrenaline manipulation?" Fir repeated.
William paused for a moment to contemplate.
"To put it simply, humans have the ability to surpass their limits when under stress. The brain releases adrenaline to provide a boost in strength, speed, and reaction time. But it's not something that can be controlled by normal means. However, certain individuals, like me, can manipulate it to some extent " he explained.
Fir listened intently as William continued.
"To be honest with you, I used to hunt supernatural beings before I met Evangeline. But after getting to know her, I gave it up," he admitted.
"Why did you stop?" Fir asked, his curiosity piqued. He wanted to know his reasons.
"Because I came to realize that the true enemy of the human race isn't the vampires or any other supernatural being," William responded, his voice calm but with a hint of weight.
"Then who is it?" Fir pressed, wanting to know more.
"It's too early for you to know," William said with a chuckle, his eyes glinting with a hint of mystery. "But I have a feeling that you'll face them someday."
Fir opened his mouth to ask another question, but before he could utter a word, William raised his hand to stop him.
"That's enough for now, young blood. You need to focus on training and improving yourself," William said in a firm tone.
Fir couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment. He wanted to learn more, but he knew his limits.
"Okay, I understand," he replied, trying to hide his frustration.
As he walked alongside William, his mind was filled with images of ancient humans fighting against stronger, faster, and more powerful creatures. He imagined them using their wit, strategy, and perhaps even this mysterious adrenaline manipulation to overcome their physical limitations and emerge victorious.
The idea was both intriguing and humbling to Fir. Despite having supernatural abilities, he realized that he had taken his own physical strength for granted. He wondered if he too could unlock this hidden potential within himself and harness the power of adrenaline manipulation.
Little did Fir know; this was the true reason Evangeline had sent him here. She needed him to gain the experience and knowledge to become more powerful. Her own strength had greatly diminished, leaving her with no choice but to train him for the battles to come.
Adrenaline Manipulation was a rare ability amongst supernatural beings, as they often had no need for such a boost. But Evangeline knew the power it could bring, and saw the potential in Fir to unlock it. She needed him to become the best version of himself, to face the dangers that lay ahead.
Fir needed to surpass his past self and become powerful enough to battle the monsters hiding in the shadows. His journey to unlock his potential had only just begun, but Evangeline was confident that he had the strength and determination to succeed.
