65 Bai Xi Xi
Bai Qi grabbed his backpack and thanked Zhang Li Xue as she dropped him off at the hospital. He watched as the vehicle drove away before he turned to enter the hospital.
When the others saw him show up at the department, they could not help but hide their surprise.
The nurses at the station greeted him.
“Doctor Bai, why did you return?” The elder nurse greeted him. “Didn’t you go to Doctor Qi’s house today?”
Bai Qi flashed the nurse a smile. “Nurse Cui, I came over to collect some files. I still have some reports to finish.”
The elder nurse nodded. “Doctor Bai, you are too hard-working.”
Bai Qi walked over to the nurse’s station to check on the update of the patients he was in charge of. After exchanging a few words and Bai Qi went into his office and headed over to his table.
Doctor Xu, who was sharing the same office as him raised his head. “Doctor Bai you’re back. Are you on duty today?”
“Un. I’m just here for some documents,” Bai Qi continued to give the same reason.
.....
He pulled his chair and sat down. Then, he leaned on his seat and closed his eyes
After visiting his mentor’s house and playing a basketball match with the others, he was indeed a little tired. It seemed that it has been a while since he had played this seriously.
But when he played a match against Zhang Li Xue, Bai Qi naturally wanted to do his best. He wanted to let her know that while he was not around, he had practiced diligently as she had told him to do.
A faint sigh escaped him.
Earlier, he had deliberately used a few tricks that she had taught him. He was hoping that perhaps, it would trigger her memory or something.
However, it seemed that Zhang Li Xue still did not recognize him.
Did she really forget all about him?
Bai Qi couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
Forget it.
How old was she when they were separated? Perhaps, in the beginning, there was nothing else in the girl’s mind other than basketball.
If he had not approached her and told her that he wanted to play basketball with her in the beginning, would they still be that close in that year?
Somehow, Bai Qi was doubting it.
He stretched up his body, switched on his laptop, and began to look for the documents he wanted. Around half an hour later, Bai Qi came out of the office with the documents in his hand.
He stopped by the nurse’s station for a few minutes and walked over to the elevator.
As he was waiting the phone in his pocket rang. His gaze softened the moment he saw the name on the caller ID.
“Hello. Is this Brother Bai Qi?” A sweet and soft voice was heard from the other line.
Bai Qi walked over to a side and sat down on the bench. “Un. Speaking.”
“Brother Bai Qi!”
Bai Qi could hear the excitement in the girl’s voice. The corner of his lips turned up to a smile. “Xi Xi, what are you doing? Have you had your lunch?”
“I ate my lunch a while ago.”
“Then, Bai Xi Xi, did you listen to Auntie Jiang well?”
“Brother, I’m very obedient.” The little girl sounded very cheery. “Brother, have you settled down over there? When are you going to pick me up to live with you?”
A helpless sigh escaped him. “I’m still dealing with a few paperwork. I promise. Next month, I will let Auntie Jiang send you over to me, alright?”
“Hmmm...” The little girl seemed to be considering something for a long time. “Then, how much longer do I have to wait? I’ll tell Auntie Jiang and let her mark the calendar.”
Bai Qi stared out the window for a while. From where he stood, Bai Qi could see the hospital’s garden. A few patients were walking around the garden for some fresh air.
“Two weeks. Un. Give me fourteen days to settle everything, alright?”
“Fourteen days. Un. I know.” There was a brief silence on the phone. Then, the girl spoke again, “Brother Bai Qi, Xi Xi miss you.”
Bai Qi lowered his gaze and nodded. “I missed you too. Just wait a while longer. Then, we’ll be together, alright?” He took a deep breath to control his emotion and looked up again. “Is your Auntie Jiang around? Let me talk to her.”
“Auntie Jiang, my brother wants to speak to you.” The girl’s voice was heard on the phone. From a distance, Bai Qi could hear the girl’s laughter. “Auntie Jiang, my brother said, he’s going to pick me up in two weeks. Auntie Jiang, don’t forget to write it down, alright?
“Bai Qi?”
“Auntie Jiang, hello,” Bai Qi greeted the woman politely. “How is Xi Xi? Did she cause you any trouble?”
“She’s very obedient. Just that, she missed you very much and would often speak your name,” the elder woman spoke. “Are you not coming back to visit her?”
“I can’t.” Bai Qi heaved a heavy sigh. “I have just transferred to this place. I can’t take a long day off yet.”
“Xi Xi said that you are going to pick her up in two weeks?”
“Un. Auntie Jiang, when the time comes, I’m going to ask you to help me send her over to the airport,” Bai Qi said. “I’ll pick her up from the airport.”
“Actually, I don’t mind looking after Xi Xi a while longer,” Auntie Jiang said. “My daughter also liked to have her around. Xi Xi will start going to school next year. Bai Qi, you have to consider this thing properly.”
“I know.” There was a long pause on Bai Qi’s side. “I have already thought of everything. No matter what, Xi Xi is the only family I have. I want her to stay close to me. Auntie Jiang, I know that you are worried about me. But, I will manage.”
Auntie Jiang heaved a sigh. She had already given her advice. But, since Bai Qi was determined to live with his sister, she could only follow his plan.
