Little Miss Witch: Revenge of the Tainted Angel
Chapter 154 - Grievances Of A Wife (2)To wait for him to get back on his senses? This old woman must be joking. Were wives born to become martyrs and expected by society to accept her husband's infidelity? Since when were wives expected to bear the consequences of their husband's mistakes?
Li Chuntao couldn't stop the rage in her chest. Not only Song Xiangrong blamed Ying for not bearing a child, she also tried to reason out her son's betrayal. Just when she thought she'd heard enough, Song Xiangrong's next words were enough for her blood to boil.
"I tried to convince her to take the child of that woman instead. Since your mistress is nothing but a starlet, any child she bears for you would receive scrutiny from the public. If Li Xiuying could accept her fate of being a barren woman and took in your child from your mistress. The three of you could start a new life,"
Li Chuntao trembled in fury. They didn't just disrespect her twin sister, Song Xiangrong had actually expected Ying to just accept everything and move on as if nothing bad had happened. Her mother-in-law wanted her to turn a blind eye on Mu Jianyu's betrayal and take in the child he had from his mistress?
'Preposterous!' Flames of anger shot through Li Chuntao. Couldn't they hear how absurd Song Xiangrong's words are? No wonder her twin sister never mentioned anything about this horrendous woman to her.
Su Ling watched her worriedly. He could see how angry she was and how hard she was trying not to bolt inside and confront the mother and son. Li Chuntao was doing a good job at holding herself back, although he knew it was really hard for her.
Yu Lou came back with a flower vase in her arms and was looking at Li Chuntao with confusion. She then turned to look at Su Ling who only shook his head, telling her to hold her questions for the meantime. He would personally answer them later.
Seeing that Yu Luo was back, Li Chuntao took several deep breaths to calm herself. She needed to keep pretending she was fine and never heard any of those bullshit Song Xiangrong said earlier.
She stepped forward and met Yu Luo halfway before she reached the door with steps so light, none of the people inside the room would notice that she'd been listening to them since she stepped out of that door.
"Yu Lou, thank you for helping me. You're a big help," Li Chuntao spoke a little louder on purpose to basically announce that she was back. She then took the flower vase from Yu Lou and mouthed thanks to her bodyguard.
Yu Lou smiled and blushed a little. Although Li Chuntao was a little odd and cold compared to their Miss Ying, she was respectful and didn't forget to thank her and Su Ling for anything they'd done for her.
Li Chuntao lightly knocked on the door and slid it open. She saw Mu Jianyu remained seated beside his mother and smiled at her as if that absurd conversation between him and his mother had not happened.
"Ying, did you get lost? You took time to come back." He stood up and took the vase from her and placed it on his mother's nightstand.
"Hmm… I almost did. It's a good thing Yu Lou remembered the way back or else I might have needed to call you to come and get me.," Li Chuntao hid her disgust from both mother and son deep in her heart.
She went back to her seat and ignored the curious gaze Song Xiangrong was giving her. Li Chuntao had a hard time calming herself and was forced to shut her eyes close.
"Ying, are you alright? You look pale." Mu Jianyu, of course, noticed the unusual silence coming from his wife. He wondered if he made a wrong choice by bringing her here to meet his mother.
"I'm fine Jianyu. Just a little headache." Li Chuntao didn't dare to open her eyes or else she might have snapped at him right then and there. She had to commend Mu Jianyu and those women around him for managing to strike her nerve every single time, something that was actually not easy to achieve.
"But—" However, Mu Jianyu wasn't able to push his question as his phone rang, taking his attention away from his wife.
Li Chuntao peered at him and said. "Take the call, it must be important."
Mu Jianyu had no choice but to answer his phone and excused himself as he stepped outside the room leaving his mother with his wife.
Song Xiangrong continued to look at Li Chuntao who remained seated with her eyes closed. She could feel the older woman's eyes on her but she refused to budge or show her weakness in front of this shameless woman.
A few minutes later, Mu Jianyu came back with an annoyed expression on his face. He eyed his wife and mother before informing them that he needed to go back to Redux Entertainment as soon as possible because there was an emergency with one of their top artists.
"Go, you don't have to worry about me. I know you're busy these days. You can always visit me again when you're free," Song Xiangrong told him while a sinister smile crossed on Li Chuntao's lips behind Mu Jianyu as a thought crossed her mind. Oh, how can she not take advantage of this?
"Jianyu, you should go. I'll accompany Mother for a while," she told him which caught the mother and son off guard. "Don't worry about me. Su Ling and Yu Luo will take me home later. I'm sure you're being needed at the meeting right now."
Mu Jianyu's eyes softened at her. He thought that his wife was trying her best to get into his mother's good books and was willing to improve her relationship with her. He went to her and kissed her forehead, much to Li Chuntao's disgust. Her nose scrunched up as she tried to hold her breath and didn't return his hug.
"Go now, or else you'll be late. Mother and I will have a good talk," she assured him when all she wanted to say was 'Fuck off, Mu Jianyu and leave the hell out of me alone.'
Mu Jianyu released her and promised to give her a call once his meeting was done before bidding goodbye to his mother and bolted out of the room to drive back to the company. He also missed how his wife's eyes glinted with mischief as soon as he turned his back on her.
Now that he was gone, Li Chuntao crossed her legs and smiled amusedly at her sister's mother-in-law. Song Xiangrong was shocked at how fast 'Ying' changed as soon as her son was out of sight. Was this really the same meek and gentle daughter-in-law she knew?
"Ah, Miss Song, should I re-introduce myself to you? I feel like you and I need a really good talk right now." Her tone was far from Li Xiuying's calm and gentle tone.. It was now harsh and cold, sending an unknown fear into the older woman's heart.
