Chapter 48 - Don’t mourn.

In an instant, Wang Lu’s head descended into all-out chaos. He raised his head, and in the same instance where the person’s face was a blur, he could only say out of conditioned reflex: “K, KK?”

“En.”

The voice was familiar, the ‘en’ he made had a listless taste, and it was congruous to KK’s character. Confused, Wang Lu took a step back and pulled a little distance between him and KK. Concurrently, his gaze landed on KK’s visage.

His moment of blankness was swept away by a delirium of frenzy in a blink of eye.

Such a, such a good thing actually happened...

KK was way too dazzling!

In Wang Lu’s opinion, not only was he better than Piaoluo, he was evidently better than Howling Wolf by a level even when he made a general comparison to the anchor circles.

However, such a comparison was not appropriate in a subtle way; truth to be told, the person in front of him could not be described with terms meant for young men like dashing or handsome and spirited. He was not handsome per se, rather, it was a unique temperament of... beauty.

KK was very tall, and a conservative estimate of his height was two metres, and by benefit of his well-proportioned body, he did not look frail. Despite being taller than what people usually constituted as tall, his height did not look alarming, rather, with his indescribable temperament, it gave off the feeling that he was supposed to look like that.

In summary, he was blessed with deep and exquisite facial features which made him exceptionally beautiful, and it propped up his two-metre long frame, making him look like an international male model with a touch of gloominess when he had an expression of decadence.

Wang Lu was surprised at first, and once he calmed down, he became ecstatic right afterwards. He was filled with enthusiasm when he said: “Good, this is really good. It’s good that you’re here, right, are you air sick? Do you need some time to rest?”

Kang Shengzhe shook his head and said: “No need.”

It was still the same listless voice and Wang Lu could not help but be attracted to the noise. Despite his enthusiasm, he did not forget that KK’s condition was his main priority. He scrutinised him carefully and realised that not only was he dispirited, his eyes were underlined with greenish-blacks as if he hadn’t slept enough. Thankfully, his foundation was good and he had a natural air of dejectedness. Otherwise, he did not know how many impression points his dark circles would have deducted.

Wang Lu felt anxious, “Did you not sleep yesterday? Did something happen to someone?”

Kang Shengzhe simply said: “Nothing’s wrong.”

How could there be nothing wrong, it was obvious that he had no intention to say it out loud. Guessing that it was a private matter, he decided it was best not to ask, and he only prayed that it would not affect his work. He lowered his head to check the time before saying: “Okay, we’ll head to the company first then. Where’s your luggage, is it checked?”

Kang Shengzhe shook his head and said: “No.”

“No? You came out empty-handed? Wait, was it stolen?” Wang Lu was surprised. Scanning Kang Shengzhe and his vicinity, he realised that there really was no suitcase or luggage in sight.

Kang Shengzhe did not speak and he only turned to his side. Wang Lu lifted his head and saw a bag pack on his back. It was not large in size, and it was estimated that it could only fit a few items. Since Kang Shengzhe was very tall, the bag was basically hidden from Wang Lu’s vision.

“You only have that bag.”

“En.”

Wang Lu said: “I see, okay, give that to me. You should rest a little in the car first. No matter what, it’s better for you to take a nap.”

Kang Shengzhe did not reject his suggestion and Wang Lu dutifully took his charge’s bag pack and it was lighter than he expected. When he touched it, he felt a slight bulge and he was unsure what was inside it.

Kang Shengzhe got into the car’s backseat but in his opinion, the carriage was still a little too small. Even after he deliberately slid down a little to seat his upper body properly, there was no space to rest his legs.

Sensing his discomfort, Wang Lu hurriedly adjusted his front seat, restricting himself in order to give Kang Shengzhe more space. Simultaneously, taking advantage of the fact that Kang Shengzhe had yet to fall asleep, Wang Lu gritted his teeth and told Kang Shengzhe about the current situation.

“...The events happened too suddenly. Piaoluo intends to wholeheartedly overshadow us, but we still have a chance. We’ll have to observe Bai Yao’s attitude later, so you ought to perform properly. But you don’t need to be too nervous, just be natural and cordial and you’ll be fine... KK?”

Kang Shengzhe returned to his reverie: “Listening.”

Wang Lu paused and sighed softly, unsure of how much KK had heard. However, even when they dug to the bottom of the matter, he did not fulfil his responsibilities as his agent and he had no right to lecture KK. He could only assert: “En, as long as your heart has its own calculations, you’ll be able to get past today. Regarding the contract, I promise that there won’t be any mistakes, so you can rest assured.”

From the beginning, Kang Shengzhe never harboured much enthusiasm for the collaboration, and as a natural consequence, the changes in the situation did not agitate him much. However, he could discern Wang Lu’s seriousness, so he nodded.

Wang Lu felt like a load had been lifted off his shoulders. His expression loosened, “You should rest, sleep for a bit.”

Kang Shengzhe made a noise as his response and closed his eyes despite having no intention to sleep. Rather than feeling sleepy, he unconsciously inhaled air into his chest and let out a slow, deep sigh.

Hey—

Originally, he had been looking forward to coming to Beijing, but he did not expect that when the day really arrived, he would be in the middle of a cold war with Liang Liang.

After being matchmade with Little Sword Fairy last night, Kang Shengzhe had sent a friend request from his main account and left him a message on WeChat, but he received no response to either of them.

As a result, he had tossed and turned in bed the whole night, feeling like something was not right. And for the first time, Kang Shengzhe experienced what insomnia was like.

According to his logic, Liang Liang ran every morning, and it was impossible that he did not see his message. If that was the case, why did he not reply?

Or perhaps, he was so angry that he refused to reply?

Kang Shengzhe felt anxious in his heart; and during the one-hour car ride, not only could he not sleep, he felt like he virtually had no strength to lift his entire body. When they reached the headquarters of MengMao TV, Kang Shengzhe somehow managed to look more lethargic than before.

Seeing that, Wang Lu felt more anxious: “KK! This, you...”

He might look beautiful, but he did not need to be this mournful!

Words half-completed, Wang Lu suddenly came to a stop as he stared at the black SUV, complexion paling.

“Mother—That car, Bai Yao has arrived? Are you kidding me, didn’t they say it was at one in the afternoon! This company is really...” He left the latter half of his sentence unsaid, but it was apparent that he was seething to the point he wanted to take it out on someone. If Piaoluo and Bai Yao had already met, did that not mean KK no longer stood a chance?

Thinking that, Wang Lu urged him hastily: “Hurry hurry hurry, KK, we need to go, oi! That hair of yours, fix it quickly.”

After slacking in the car for a while, Kang Shengzhe’s hair had become somewhat messy, and his tousled hair only served to worsen the fact that he already lacked energy. Under Wang Lu’s protesting, he pulled off his hair elastic and searched around briefly before he bent over to look at the window of the black SUV by the road to leisurely comb through his hair.

Since he was very tall, he had to bend his waist at a very low and delicate angle in order to look at the car window. His fingers stretched out as he gathered the long hair from the sides of his face which further enhanced his features, gave off the impression of sharpness, as if he was a jade that had been carved by a knife.

“Are you done?”

“En.”

“Then let’s go, come here, this way.”

Kang Shengzhe lagged after. On the top of his head, he had a manbun with a small tip of the ponytail peeking. With his hair tied up, the lines of his neck and lower jaw were particularly defined, and temporarily – albeit firmly and powerfully – he compressed the aesthetic perception of his exceptional beauty and condensed it into a natural oppressive force that assaulted a person’s senses upon gaze.

In a few strides, he caught up with his agent. Unbeknownst to him, behind the black SUV’s window and inside the car itself, someone was covering her mouth tightly, pressing down the scream that had been caused by the explosive impact of attractiveness being viewed from a close distance.

Wide-eyed and mouth still covered, it took Yao Miaomiao a good while before she managed to whisper: “Waaaaaah, so attractive.”

“What?”

His tone was cold but his voice was gentle and pleasant. Yao Miaomiao’s heart was far from calm when she could not help but remark, moved: “The person who tying his hair was very attractive, particularly so.”

For an assistant, who followed Bai Yao and had seen the flowers and fauna that the entertainment circle had to offer, to describe a person as such, their attractiveness could be well-imagined. However, You Liangxing only made a low ‘en’ as a reply, not particularly interested.

Yao Miaomiao could not resist pulling on You Liangxing’s sleeves a little, saying: “That... Um, look.”

You Liangxing tilted his head sideways to cast a glance outside. However, his timing was off; the man had already stood up and turned. Additionally, due to the fact that he was in the car, his vision was obstructed and he could not see how tall the person was beyond half of their waistline.

“Pity,” You Miaomiao covered her mouth again, “He was really attractive.”

Gazing at You Liangxing’s visage, Yao Miaomiao swallowed the rest of her words again. After taking You Liangxing’s appearance into account, she easily understood the reason why You Liangxing would be so indifferent – why would You Liangxing pay attention to the appearances of others as she would when he was so handsome himself?

Yao Miaomiao closed her mouth, a little loss for words. Instead, she found something else to say: “En, um, I don’t know what time Sister Yaoyao will wake up.”

Once Bai Yao was mentioned, You Liangxing stilled and his eyebrows started furrowing. A trace of worry appeared on his cold and indifferent face and he looked over to his side where Bai Yao was sleeping. Her hands were wrapped tightly around his arm, for fear that he would run away while she was asleep.

You Liangxing looked skywards and let out a soft sigh.

How could he run when his phone was still pressed against Bai Yao’s chest? Even if he was extremely anxious, he could not stretch his hands out to grab it, let alone abandon his phone and run.

Escape was futile; today was the First of July, and the family reunion slated for the Mid-Autumn Festival was more than compulsory.

Actions restricted and with too much idle time to spare, You Liangxing thought about yesterday’s events again: being matchmade with a game anchor, realising that Ah Sheng and KK were one and the same, being ridiculed as a girl. As he recalled how he had been played, and how he had left the game in a fit of anger.....

There were actually a lot of clues about Ah Sheng being KK being strewn around all the time.

After he had been directly called out by Ah Sheng’s voice by name, You Liangxing had pieced the string of events together very quickly.

It was no wonder why he only gamed with Ah Sheng after half past ten, and why the restraining tactics he calibrated for KK worked on Ah Sheng. If he said he was a student who had to work, then being an anchor fit the bill perfectly.

When his thoughts reached the last point, he swiftly recalled how they had met the first time.

The voice was familiar to him, and if he had the chance to add him as a friend, they must have played a game together before. Tacking on the fact that he had been labelled as a ‘sister’, then the only possible instance that matched the necessary criteria was the game where he had spoken out like an angry, sonic boom as he was playing Zhong Kui.

Who would have thought that the point of origin would be so far back?

T/N: ... Technically they met? xD
