Book 4: Chapter 5: Medic Operator? I Don’t Believe ItAfter some time, a Rhodes Island staff whom Kal’tsit called over brought Chen Heng to the medical department for a checkup.
When Chen Heng entered the medical department, the smell of disinfectant choked him.
“Operator Shining, this is a new operator that Kal’tsit gave special instructions to do a thorough checkup, He Who Knows Fate. Please check his physical status. My job is done, so I’ll go ahead.”
[TL Note: Here is Shining’s profile: https://arknights.fandom.com/wiki/Shining/Overview.]
That operator handed over Chen Heng upon entering the medical department. The medical staff responsible for handling Chen Heng was called Shining.
Shining had two horns that looked like demon horns. Chen Heng knew a little about this. Amiya mentioned that this race was called Sarkaz, and its status in this world was similar to demons in Chen Heng’s world.
[TL Note: Here is more information on the Sarkaz race: https://arknights.fandom.com/wiki/Sarkaz.]
The Sarkaz’s Originium Arts should be the best in this world. Most Sarkaz had high Arts adaptability. Consequently, they were the most easily infected with Oripathy. They had once started large-scale wars with other races. Now, many Sarkaz chose to become mercenaries. The people of this race possessed extraordinary combat prowess.
Fair skin, long legs, and the white hair that the Chinese favored. Chen Heng suddenly felt that this Shining was an improved version of Luo Li. However, Luo Li would never reach the level of Shining. After making such a comparison, he suddenly felt he had let Luo Li down.
Although Shining was a Medic operator, Chen Heng’s instinct told him she should be an excellent swordswoman. This was the sense a swordsman had for another fellow practitioner; it couldn’t be mistaken.Furthermore, Shining held her staff like it was a sword. Although she had intentionally changed her posture, an experienced swordsman could tell. If Chen Heng guessed right, the staff should be her sword. Furthermore, it had an obvious hilt.
As Chen Heng looked at Shining, Shining seemed to have sensed him. When she turned to look at him, her first instinct was to look at his hands, not his face. She should be checking his hands for calluses from sword practice. As mentioned previously, this was the sense for a fellow practitioner.
“Hello. I’m He Who Knows Fate, a new Rhodes Island operator. Kindly show me the ropes.”
“Oh! Hello. Come with me.” Clearly, Shining did not intend to interact with Chen Heng. The moment she saw him, she knew he realized she was a swordswoman.
“Miss Shining, you are a swordswoman, right?”
“You are mistaken. I’m a Medic.”
Like I believe you. This old wretch is very naughty. Chen Heng believed Shining was like him: possessing a stronger ability but hiding behind an ordinary ability.
Shining should be an expert swordswoman. Furthermore, she has something no inferior to my unconverted Chen Clan Sword Technique.
When thinking of the Chen Clan Sword Technique, Chen Heng remembered being unable to convert to cultivation, which led to thinking about the ancestral crystal and further to thinking about his still-alive ancestor.
Damn it! What a headache!
Chen Heng had only just discovered this afternoon that the ancestor who had gone missing a few thousand years ago was still alive.
After making many turns, Shining brought Chen Heng to a place filled with precision instruments. “We’ve arrived. Lie down.” Then she pointed to a device that looked like a CT machine.
Seeing Chen Heng remaining still, Shining explained in further detail.
“This is used to do a full-body checkup. It will check whether you are infected, the degree of infection, and other data about your body. This is the latest product Rhodes Island just purchased.”
“Oh! Alright.”
------
Shining looked at the report produced by the machine, wondering if the machine had broken down. This was Rhodes Island’s latest equipment. If the machine was fine, then the problem lay with Chen Heng.
Cell-Originium assimilation: 0
Blood Originium-crystal density: 0 u/L
Such results were even more ridiculous than Skadi’s, who was an Abyssal Hunter from the abyss.
Shining shoved the resume and examination report to Chen Heng. This thing was a hot potato. If it spread, it might…
“If you want to stay safe, never show this report to anyone, including Kal’tsit.” For some reason, Shining kindly gave Chen Heng this reminder.
“Are you joking? How can the resume escape Kal’tsit’s scrutiny? Furthermore, she already knows about my matter. However, thank you for your reminder.”
Chen Heng knew Shining had reminded him out of kindness, so he thanked her.
“As long as you are aware of it. Don’t ever get sold without knowing how you died.”
“Miss Shining, you are quite kind.”
“Kind? Can I truly be described with that word?” Shining mocked herself upon hearing Chen Heng’s praise. A strange expression flashed in her eyes.
This was Chen Heng’s first time seeing an emotional change on Shining’s face.
“Just an instinct as a swordsman.”
“Swordsman? Aren’t you a sniper?”
“Look at what you are saying. Don’t you already know? Just like how you disguise your swordsmanship with your Medic operator identity, I am hiding mine with my Sniper operator identity. In any case, you have already figured it out, right?” It was hard for a swordsman to hide from another swordsman. This was not something mystical. Instead, the identity showed in minor things, like one’s posture and habits in holding things.
Of course, Chen Heng referred to the swordsmanship he hid here, not his other abilities.
Truth be told, Chen Heng was not worried about getting killed after exposing his abilities. He noticed this world’s combat prowess was much lower than his own; at least, he felt he could sweep his way through this world.
Hiding his true skills with a Sniper identity was to avoid bringing trouble to Kal’tsit. Of course, the greater reason was it was fun.
“Hiding, is that it?”
------
“Damn! What are you doing? Don’t come over. Stay farther away from me! Shining, you have no conscience! Why did you leave me alone here?!”
Chen Heng initially thought Shining’s attitude would change a little after he chatted with her. Unexpectedly, she tossed him to a frighteningly pale Sarkaz.
White hair, red pupils, black hair, and sharp ears. This combination seemed particularly attractive to the Chinese. Wrong, that was not the important part. Going by Terran convention, this person was a Vampire, a Sarkaz subrace.
