Chapter 210: Trump Card
The people around looked at the Walking Corpses in fear.
Even Ji Congyun, a Longevity Qi martial artist, felt utterly powerless in the face of the Walking Corpses. The disparity between their strength was huge!
Fang Chen's eyes flickered. “What strong corpse qi. Are they zombies?”
“Is this your first time seeing zombies?" asked Brother Zhou. "These creatures aren't commonly seen. We of the Blood Corpse Sect refine zombies in order to you use them offensively in combat." He stood up with an amused expression. “You're in luck. Senior Sister Wang is the best corpse ferryman in our generation. Moreover, those two zombies have already reached the superior grade.” Pausing for a moment, Brother Zhou licked his lips and added, “Nothing beats the blood essence of cultivators when it comes to feeding zombies, it's much like a saint-grade herb to them. Now that you've angered Senior Sister Wang, one of you has to leave their life behind."
Brother Zhou laughed heartily and left the hall with Lin Li.
“Blood Corpse Sect?” mused Fang Chen.
The name had a demonic and villainous sound to it, much like the Spirit Blood Sect. However, what was strange was how open they were about this information they had shared.
This wasn't Fang Chen's first time seeing a zombie, as he had encountered that Spirit Blood Sect Foundation Building Realm cultivator who had refined himself into a zombie before. It had taken a great deal of effort to kill that corpse cultivator.
On the other hand, these two Walking Corpses didn't seem to have any consciousness, unlike that one.
Spirit Blood Sect... Blood Corpse Sect... Are these two sects related?
Ji Congyun looked solemn. “Lord Fang....”
Fang Chen merely smiled and followed them outside calmly.
His calm demeanor rubbed off on JI Congyun, reassuring him greatly. He could tell that Fang Chen wasn't pretending.
The Frost Water Emperor and the crowd left the hall and stood at the entrance to watch. All of them had different expressions, some were grim and some were excited.
Senior Sister Wang glanced briefly at Fang Chen. Suddenly, she waved her hand lightly and one of the zombies transformed into a ferocious beast and pounced toward Fang Chen at lightning speed.
Fang Chen didn't summon Little Sword, as it was rare to encounter such a creature. He wanted to see what was special about it first.
Fang Chen's spiritual energy surged just when the zombie approached closer, forming a spiritual energy shield.
Senior Brother Zhou couldn't help but laugh. He remarked, “The claws of zombies are incredibly sharp. If your cultivation is not higher than them by a few stages, then your spiritual energy would be as fragile as tofu in front of them.”
Everyone’s eyes lit up when they heard that.
Like what Brother Zhou had said, Fang Chen's spiritual energy shield was as fragile as tofu in front of the walking corpse and shattered instantly! A foul odor swept past Fang Chen's nose, causing his nose to wrinkle in irritation.
Fang Chen flashed away, creating distance between him and the Walking Corpse. He quickly conjured a Fireball and hurtled it at it.
The flames of a Fireball was completely different from normal flames as it was fueled by spiritual energy. It was far more powerful and destructive. It could even melt someone alive or turn iron into slags.
Brother Zhou smiled faintly again and said, “He really hasn't fought zombies before. As long as zombies reach the grade of Walking Corpses, their indestructible vajra would surface. Ordinary techniques won't be able to harm them at all.”
Bang!
The Fireball struck the Walking Corpse, but it seemed to be immune to fire-based techniques. It only staggered for a moment before it continued its assault.
The strong corpse that emanated from it was causing the weeds around it to wither and die at a visible rate.
The people of the Frost Water Empire heaved a sigh of relief. Senior Brother Zhou’s words had really hit the nail on the head.
Everyone was now looking at Fang Chen as though he was a dead person.
Ji Congyun seemed calm on the surface, but he was really panicking on the inside.
"He can’t even handle a Walking Corpse. You see, Lin Li? This is the fate of a wandering cultivator. If you ascend to the peak of the Heaven Profound Stage, dealing with wandering cultivators will be a breeze for you,” said Senior Brother Zhou with a faint smile.
Lin Li nodded slowly. His resentment-filled eyes were staring at Fang Chen unblinkingly. He unfortunately wasn't at the peak of the Heaven Profound Stage right now; otherwise, he would have been able to avenge Han Qin himself!
It doesn't fear Fireballs. What about Ice Arrows then? thought Fang Chen. He formed an Ice Arrow and sent it flying at the Walking Corpse.
Bang!
It seemed to have had an effect this time, as the Walking Corpse slowed down a little. But that jittery effect only lasted a few seconds before the Walking Corpse returned to normal.
The ice arrow technique didn't seem to have been very effective either...
Soon, the Walking Corpse became much faster, and it seemed to have become even more aggressive than before.
The other Walking Corpse had reached Fang Chen from behind by now, and it was ready to strike at him. But Fang Chen noticed it, and he immediately threw two Purple Lightning Talismans at it.
Boom!
The thunder roared, and purple lightning struck the Walking Corpse.
The crowd was shocked. Was that lightning just now?
The Fireball and Ice Arrow hadn't seemed too impressive to them, but thunder was a different story altogether—this was nature's might!
The Walking Corpses stopped in their tracks after being hit by the lightning. Their bodies were charred and burnt, as if their fleshes were overcooked, emitting an indescribable stench!
“Was that a lightning technique?!” Brother Zhou’s face suddenly stiffened, but immediately he realized that it was impossible for it to be a lightning technique. Such techniques only existed in colossal sects. There was no way a wandering cultivator would have such a thing!
A thought suddenly crossed Senior Brother Zhou's as the image of a talisman popped up in his mind. “Purple Lightning Talisman!”
Even though the Purple Lightning Talismans were only of the low-grade, yellow rank, they still contained the power of thunder and lightning, which were effective against yin creatures! And zombies were precisely yin creatures!
He had been able to catch a glimpse of a yellow talisman in Fang Chen's hand before the lightning went off, so this confirmed his suspicions. But he couldn't understand how a wandering cultivator was able to get his hands on such a thing; those were extremely rare and expensive.
The people of the Frost Water Empire couldn't keep calm anymore. The supposedly domineering zombie now looked like an overcooked stinky tofu. Not only was its chest a big mess, but its stench was highly unbearable.
Ji Congyun's spirits were lifted. Surely, Fang Chen had not disappointed him. As long as Fang Chen could harm the zombie, then victory was within his reach!
“Purple Lightning Talisman?” Senior Sister Wang looked at her Walking Corpse with furrowed eyebrows. She questioned, “Where did you get those from?”
Fang Chen didn't answer that question but smiled instead and said, “It seems that the power of lightning can counter your zombies.”
“Hehe...” Sister Wang chuckled, “Indeed, it can counter them, but your talismans are of low grade right? You probably need at least one hundred and eighty or more talismans to kill my Walking Corpses. Without that many, it is absolutely impossible for you to defeat them.”
What she didn't know was that Fang Chen actually had over two hundred Purple Lightning Talismans in his storage ring. But, of course, he wasn't going to be wasting them all here. He had been able to learn that zombies were vulnerable to lightning energy, and that was enough for him.
Everything he just did was for him to gain a bit more understanding toward the world of cultivators.
Fang Chen's trump card was his Destiny Treasure!
“Don't let me down, Little Sword.”
A cold light flashed.
Suddenly, the corpse that Senior Brother Zhou had claimed to be indestructible staggered a few steps back before it fell heavily to the ground. A fist-sized bloody hole had appeared at the center of its forehead.
Similarly, the other zombie also collapsed to the ground with the small sword pierced through its head.
After a quick glance, Fang Chen thought, “They don't seem to have corpse beads though. Is it because their grade was not high enough, or are they completely different from that cultivator of the Spirit Blood Sect?"
Sister Wang hacked out a mouthful of fresh blood, and she suddenly felt all weary and sluggish. Her eyes betrayed a hint of horror and confusion as she looked at Fang Chen.
