Chapter 153: Kill
The Grand Xia Emperor and the civil and military officials were no strangers to this flashing purple lighting, and they knew that it had to have been Fang Chen who released it.
They were shocked that even in battles at this level, Fang Chen could still intervene!
"Purple Lightning Talisman?" growled the Spirit Blood Sect’s Foundation Building Realm cultivator, both shocked and enraged. As a corpse cultivator, he had few weaknesses. But he particularly feared tribulation lighting, as it was of supreme yang and was vigorously powerful!
Although the power of the Purple Lightning Talisman was not on par with tribulation lightning, the two were quite similar on the fundamental level. And so, both possessed tremendous threat to corpse cultivators!
Boom!
Hundreds of purple lightning bolts instantly engulfed the Spirit Blood Sect’s Foundation Building Realm cultivator, and a horrifying cry rang through the skies.
Elder Jin Nan wore a face of shock and instinctively jerked his head toward Fang Chen.
Hundreds of Purple Lightning Talismans? How many spirit stones would that cost?!
He couldn’t even wrap his head around the number of spirit stones required to buy such an absurd amount of talismans!
When the smoke settled, a weary, beat-up figure appeared in the sky.
The corpse cultivator was barely able to remain in the air, and his movements were stiff as he hovered. His body was covered in charred wounds, blackened with wisps of smoke that rose from his flesh. The open wounds even flashed with residual lightning. The corpse aura that corpse cultivators exuded had been dispersed by the wave of purple lightning.
Suddenly, Fang Chen's voice echoed into everyone’s ears. "Elder Jin Nan, Senior Sister Zhen Yue, attack his jaw!"
The two were slightly taken aback, but their instincts took over, and they swiftly drove their flying swords toward the Spirit Blood Sect’s Foundation Building Realm cultivator's jaw.
Puff, puff!
Two flying swords had almost simultaneously pierced through the corpse cultivator’s jaw.
The corpse cultivator’s body quivered violently.
Elder Jin Nan and Zhen Yue quickly retreated back a hundred yards. Then, when they were a safe distance away, they stared at the scene before them in amazement.
The corpse cultivator’s quivering body suddenly calmed down, and he slowly turned his head to look at Fang Chen below.
"How... how did you know where my... corpse bead was?"
Corpse bead?! Could it be...
Jin Nan and Zhen Yue exchanged shocked looks. Did their attack just happen to destroy the corpse cultivator's corpse bead? But how was Fang Chen able to tell where the corpse bead was?
"I guessed," answered Fang Chen with a faint smile.
Astonishment flashed in the eyes of the Spirit Blood Sect’s Foundation Building Realm cultivator, and a moment later, his body began to disintegrate. First was his feet, like a sculpture of sand that had been swept away by a strong gale of wind, it slowly vanished bit by bit. The entire process was visible to the naked eye. It started with the feet, then the abdomen, arms....
When the corpse cultivator’s head was about to dissipate, he let out a indigenous, desperate curse, "You will eventually come down to accompany me! Blood Spirit defies the Heavens! I have no regrets, I have no complaints!"
As his final roar filled the sky, his head completely dissipated. His words lingered in everyone's ears still, however.
"Blood Spirit defies the Heavens. I have no regrets, I have no complaints?"
"What does that mean?"
Curiosity appeared on the features of the many wandering cultivators watching. But they quickly stopped thinking about the man’s dying words, throwing them at the back of their heads. The man was dead. What was important was that they had been able to witness a corpse cultivator, which was a rare existence, get suppressed and ultimately killed.
It was then that everyone turned their gazes over at Fang Chen. Their eyes were filled with curiosity, wariness, and a thread of solemnity.
Ye Qinghe and Tao Yu followed behind their respective masters. The two of them finally understood that Fang Chen's martial cultivation didn’t recover at all! But he had instead become a cultivator!
The Grand Xia Emperor had clearly also noticed this. The civil and military officials were not fools either. They had originally thought that Fang Chen's abilities back then came from Li Daoye, but that didn’t seem to be the case anymore! What had just happened was more than enough proof that Fang Chen himself was already a cultivator!
People were no longer surprised. After all, some time ago during the spiritual measurement, abnormalities had already occurred when Fang Chen tried to test his talent. They came to know at that time that Fang Chen had already been recognized by some powerful cultivator quietly.
Dazed, Xia Yu stared at Fang Chen. "He has already embarked on the path of cultivation..."
He did not notice that Liu Suifeng and Zhan Taiqing were somewhat stiff, their eyes filled with amazement.
"Blood Spirit defies the Heavens..."
Elder Jin Nan slowly turned to look at Senior Sister Zhen Yue. "So he is a Spirit Blood Sect cultivator,” he said. “Did you already know this?"
Abbess Zhu Yue nodded. "I wasn't sure before, but now I am."
"..."
Elder Jin Nan's lips began to tremble, and his face turned deathly pale. Eyes filled with anger, he stared at Abbess Zhu Yue. "Do you know how much trouble you've caused the Northern Heavenly Sect?"
Senior Sister Zhen Yue smiled faintly. "I'll have Fang Chen give you more Purple Lightning Talismans. I'll discuss this matter with him for you,” she said. “Moreover, the Spirit Blood Sect’s Foundation Building Realm cultivator has already died. No one will know it was us.
"The cultivation world is vast, and the Spirit Blood Sect is scattered everywhere. Killing one or two of their Foundation Building Realm cultivators won't attract too much of their attention."
Elder Jin Nan was utterly speechless, but now that the situation had already come to this, it was meaningless to try and settle scores with Senior Sister Zhen Yue. He could only hope to control the losses and salvage a bit more benefits. Fortunately, unlike cultivators from sects, it was rare for a wandering cultivator to know about the Spirit Blood Sect. What happened today shouldn’t spread too widely.
Thinking of this, Elder Jin Nan couldn't help but look at Fang Chen.
Fang Chen walked up to the child, who was dumbfounded, and crouched down to meet his eyes. "Your family is already gone,” said Fang Chen. “Do you have any relatives?"
The originally dumbfounded child’s eyes suddenly turned red and welled up with tears, and two warm drops slid down his cheeks. The child pointed at his own throat and tried to speak, but all that came out were incoherent sounds.
"My lord, his throat was ruined. He can’t speak no more," whispered Huang Sihai.
Fang Chen reached out and gently touched the child's shoulder, infusing spiritual energy into him. After a while, he said softly, "I can't see and you can't speak. This could be considered fate. Remember; the one who had killed your family came from the Spirit Blood Sect. If you have a talent for cultivation, I'll give you a chance."
Fang Chen stood back up and turned to look at Jin Nan. "Elder Jin Nan, lend me your Spiritual Measuring Bell."
"Sure." Elder Jin Nan nodded, waving his hand.
The Spiritual Testing Bell appeared, then fell in front of Fang Chen.
Fang Chen gently patted the child's shoulder. "Go ahead."
The child, having witnessed many people do it before, knew what to do. Wiping away the unshed tears from his resentment-filled eyes, he waddled up near the Spiritual Testing Bell.
Clang—
Clang—
Clang—
Only three chimes.
His aptitude was quite ordinary, similar to that of Tao Yu and others. He could be accepted by a wandering cultivator at best. His talent would limit his future achievements severely.
Unwilling to give up, the child continued to hammer at the Spiritual Testing Bell until his fists turned bruised and bloody. He didn't stop until Fang Chen gently held his fists.
"Elder Jin Nan, can you take him in?" requested Fang Chen.
Jin Nan was somewhat hesitant. "His talent, it’s...."
The Heavenly Southern Sect didn't normally accept cultivators with such talents, as it would be a waste of cultivation resources to do so. Although, there were still exceptions, such as Ancestor Xia Yu, who had made significant contributions to the sect, which allowed him entry.
Fang Chen smiled faintly. "I’ll owe you one."
"Okay, I'll take him in!" agreed Elder Jin Nan decisively.
With a flicker, Elder Jin Nan appeared by the child’s side and released a stream of spiritual energy into him. The child's battered fists quickly recovered at a visible rate.
Having witnessed Fang Chen's methods, especially the numerous Purple Lightning Talismans he carried, it was enough proof to Elder Nin Jan of how much Fang Chen's sect valued him. Having Fang Chen owe him one was not something he’d pass up.
Many people around showed envy.
Ye Qinghe couldn't help but roll his eyes. Just because Fang Chen would owe him a favor, Elder Jin Nan rushed to accept the kid into the Heavenly Southern Sect despite his below-average aptitude. Meanwhile, here he was, only able to cultivate under some wandering cultivator....
However, thinking of Li Huafeng, Ye Qinghe couldn’t help but feel that he had it easy.
