I was taken by Vice Captain Neil to a dingy underground prison.

The ground was damp for some reason, with puddles and such. I also noticed a rat scurrying across the ground.

…Are they trying to force a sinner on me, perhaps?

Yesterday I enjoyed myself in Grandfather’s beautiful room, and now here I am in a smelly, filthy prison.

“What will happen to those people if I can’t handle them?”

“I guess you’ll have to kill them.”

Deputy Captain Neil muttered in a low voice. All human lives were of equal value, but their weight varied depending on their position.

“Here we are.”

I came to a halt when I heard his voice. Under my feet, I heard a clicking sound. My foot had just stepped into a puddle.

But now was not the time to worry about that. I looked at the two people trapped by the thick iron fence.

…What sharp eyes. Nothing but hostility and hatred. The murderous intent from the man in particular was astonishing.

He didn’t seem to be trying to fit in at all.

He was around my age or younger, maybe the same age as Gilles. …Come to think of it, there was a time when Gilles used to look at me like this at first. I missed it.

The older brother was holding his slightly frightened younger brother in his arms and staring at us.

He had black hair with a slight curl and crimson eyes. It was difficult to believe they were twins, but their faces were strikingly similar.

They didn’t even look that similar, probably because their personalities were reflected too strongly in their facial expressions…. Besides that, they both have brown skin that is much darker than Duke-sama’s.

“Where did you find them?”

Neil chuckled at my words. The look in his eyes as he looked at me was as if to say, “You should know better than anyone else.”

“In the arena, perhaps?”

“Yes. Or, to be more precise, I caught someone escaping from the arena.”

“Brown-skinned…”

“What are you so surprised about? There are also sinners coming from Melvyn Kingdom, you know.”

Vice Captain Neil said, as if it were just a matter of course.

It was unthinkable that the Duelkis Kingdom would be the only place to send sinners.

Melvyn Kingdom…. Melvyn Kingdom…must be the country where Duke-sama’s mother was born. I never paid attention to the country where the queen was born. I had many other things to do.

But now, seeing these people from Melvyn Kingdom, I am becoming interested.

“You are going to entrust them to me?”

“Yes, but these guys are quite a pain in the neck. Not just the older brother, but the younger one as well.”

I turned my attention to the two boys in prison as I listened to the words of Vice Captain Neil.

Mercy was not a word that suited me. So, I didn’t want them if they weren’t strong enough. My unit would not be just for anyone.

“What’s your name?”

I put some pressure on them, but they didn’t budge. The older brother never took his eyes off me, and continued staring at me with a horrified expression on his face.

Perhaps it was because I had been stared at so much at the magic academy that I didn’t react to the stare as much, as it had become a normal part of my life.

“My name is Ria. I am 16 years old. How old are you?”

“Why are you here?”

“Are you hungry?”

Nothing I say worked. They were blatantly ignoring us. The last thing these people want is to be released.

“Do you want to be released?”

I could see the twitch of the older brother’s eyebrows at my question.
