Noah saw an opportunity and hurriedly broke free from Kyle, her heart hammering from her chest as she almost got swayed by insensibility. Both her cheeks were burning crimson. Unable to look back at him, she shifted her eyes outside the window, and below, the armed Protection Bureau members were seen entering the inside of the barrier.
“No need to put out the fire. And no need to be afraid since the fire isn’t burning anyone. First things first, lead the people outside the hotel to a temporary security post, especially those with the letter ‘R’ written on the back of their ears, and isolate them separately. And do not touch room #319.”
Behind her, Kyle’s voice was heard giving orders over a radio. Noah deliberately tried hard to think objectively about what she had to do right now.
“There is a process running in the entire northern hallways from the third floor to the sixth floor. First, save the Harrell residents in those rooms. On the second, third, and fourth floors.”
The Ministry of Magic’s secret laboratory, designed with a bizarre process, will now move on to the Bureau of Investigation Security.
The replica project had completely fallen into the realm of Laurent Imperial Law. That fact meant one thing: Eleonora Asil and Adrian Rossinell had failed. The resurrection of Eleonora, the abuse of Adrian’s authority as the head of the Ministry of Magic… The manifestation of the world those two had dreamt of would never happen.
Further investigation of the persons involved in the project would be required to close the investigation. Adrian would be arrested for several violent crimes, including unprecedented brutal biological experiments, the murder of Eleonora Asil, the attacks on the train bound for Central Edman and the Angelic, and the embezzlement of magic stones.
However, it wouldn’t be the end yet. Adrian, who had been split into two and the whereabouts of Eleonora’s soul which had been ripped from her body, the relationship between the two…
Noah recalled Eleonora’s body, which would be trapped in the many clutters of Muell’s subspace, and her soul, which would be stored somewhere. Eleonora had performed joint research with Adrian for the replica project. In fact, it may be that they were associated by names only; perhaps it was only Eleonora’s doing from the beginning. If so, the one who would bear the consequences of her crimes was Adrian.
“Hey, Noah.”
Kyle, who had received orders through his radio, called her name. Swiftly turning around, surprised, he smirked with a serious look on his face. His loose smile caused Noah’s heart to tremble and tighten.
“The staircase up to the fourth floor is blocked. Which way did you go up a few hours ago?” he asked.
Noah frowned as she recalled her memory. “Oh, right. The structure of the mansion must have changed as I went up. I’ll try to go up again.”
“Let’s go together.”
“But I can go a-a-alone.”
“What happened to our promise, Noah?”
You didn’t promise to follow me wherever I go! Noah couldn’t bear to answer and left the kitchen sooner. This was not the time or place for that; she had to go up to Adrian’s research lab again and go through all of the documents in there to see Adrian’s involvement in Eleonora’s research. She ought to know who the subject of such inhumane experiment was. Thinking about what she had to do, her tightened heart seemed to have found its rhythm again.
All right. You have to draw a distinct line between public and private matters, Noah. Determined, she stepped foot into the hallway before freezing. Speaking of public and private affairs… there was someone she had completely forgotten about: the witness.
“Right, Lenia!”
“I’m going to leave Lenia Valtalere’s interrogation with Muell,” Kyle said, putting a robe around her shoulders.
Noah, frozen at the scent of Kyle’s body scent coming from the robe, snapped back at the sound of her dragon’s name. “What?” she whipped her head to Kyle.
In retrospect, Kyle had asked Muell to do something just before coming up from the first-floor hall. Noah asked in a dashing way, “So, what did you order Muell to do?”
Kyle only shrugged his shoulders as if saying, ‘What else would it be?’
“Young lady, he had seen and heard a lot in the Protection Bureau. Well… although the child hasn’t learned about morality or ethics yet, but still, I’m sure he has learned everything useful in this situation.”
“Don’t tell me that…”
Noah was appalled after belatedly realizing the meaning of what he had said. Don’t tell me he didn’t just teach Muell how to interrogate, this guy?
