Selfish Act
The majority of people were selfish by nature!
Only at this moment did Xiaoyun realize that if she hadn’t eaten together with this senior together at the same dining table, no matter how familiar she was with her, she most probably would have reported her straight away for the sake of everyone’s safety.
Even if she didn’t report it openly, she would silently hint it to the officer. So why would she act like what she was doing now, even wanting to prevent the senior from surrendering?
There was data that indicated the majority of those with the virus were all unwilling to be isolated. Many people knew that they had the virus, but they would still think of ways to go back home, or take revenge on society, or simply see their loved ones. Although they were very clear in their hearts that they might spread the virus to their friends, family, and those whom they loved most, the majority of people would still choose to do this.
There were many reasons for this. Many people felt that they were lucky enough to take chances, and some just wanted everyone to die. Outsiders might not understand, but those with the virus all knew that the nearer the time of death, the more one’s selfishness would be displayed without restraint!
Xiaoyun was one of those mortals who felt she was lucky enough to take chances!
As a university student that had received high-level education, she naturally knew the consequences if the virus wasn’t contained. In serious cases, millions of people would die. Yet, she still felt like taking chances. Just like what the bald vice headmaster had said, that monkey might not really be infected. Everything might just be a false alarm, and there was no need to make a mountain out of a molehill...
She didn’t wish to be isolated, even if the stakes were the lives of ten million people!
“Xiaoyun...I…” The red-haired senior no longer had the appearance of an elder sister. She spoke with fear, “I...really didn’t do it intentionally…”
Xiaoyun’s eyes narrowed; there was no trace of sympathy in them. With the possibility of her getting infected from this senior, she didn’t have the mood to sympathize with the other party. But now, in order to prevent the officer from seeing something was wrong, she could only console her quietly, “Don’t worry senior, you have also heard what the bald headmaster has said. Most probably, that monkey is a healthy one. You only fed it, right? Nothing will happen.”
“Mn…” Xinya initially harbored a trace of hope in her heart. But after hearing what Xiaoyun had said, she nodded in agreement. This appearance caused Xiaoyun to feel disgusted, but she had to encourage this feeling of hope for now.
“But...will the school isolate all of us?” Xinya worriedly spoke.
“Impossible…” Guo Xiaoyun shook her head. “In our school, there’s a total of 70,000 to 80,000 people including the teachers, and our C-City doesn’t have enough resources to isolate so many people. At most, they will seal this school up and not allow us to leave!”
“Locking down the school?” Xinya immediately became even more flustered.
Staring at her attitude, Xiaoyun complained silently, “What a useless fellow!”
However, she couldn’t help but make a comforting expression as she grabbed Xinya’s hand. “Don’t worry, as long as no one shows any symptoms of the virus during these few days, everything will be fine once the lab result of that monkey is out.”
“Is that so…” Xinya’s expression became better after hearing this. Yet, Xiaoyun’s heart sank abruptly. Because, when she grabbed her senior’s hand, she felt that it was ice-cold to the touch. Today was such a sunny day; it was impossible for anyone’s hands to feel so cold, right?
Now that she took a closer look, her senior’s face was completely pale. Initially, she thought it was because her senior was scared. But now, the paleness of her face didn’t seem too normal. How would someone be so frightened to this extent?
(Could it be…)
“Senior, your complexion isn’t too good, later they might bring you in for solo questioning. Come, eat some chili to ruddy your complexion.”
“Ah?” Xinya started and stuttered, “I, I...don’t eat chili.”
“It’s better that way. In this case, the spice will heat you up from within, and the ruddy glow will be seen on your face easier.”
“I... don’t think it is necessary, right?” Xinya pitifully spoke.
“Come, open your mouth!”
At this moment, Xiaoyuns’ emotions were seemingly about to reach the eruption point. Although she didn’t want to admit it, she understood in her heart that she could have been harmed by this fellow!
She didn’t know if the virus could transmit through the air. But the transmission rate through droplets of saliva was 100%. If it was through the blood, the epidemic wouldn’t have expanded to such a terrifying scale within the short time it was reported on the news.
From Xinya’s body reaction, she most probably had already contracted the virus. As for them who ate together with her, they also must have...
Truly, the worst situation had occurred!
When she thought to this point and took another glance at the other party’s pitiful appearance, Guo Xiaoyun was so resentful that she wanted nothing more than to use a chopstick to poke the other party to death.
Xinya also sensed the cold intent from Xiaoyun. A moment later, she shivered. She no longer dared to object and obediently opened her mouth.
She then silently mused, “Why is the gaze of this lass so terrifying?”
“What are you all doing?” Two dorm-mates at the opposite table had strange looks on their faces when they saw Xiaoyun using chopsticks, feeding large amounts of chili into Xinya’s mouth.
Earlier, the dining hall had been inundated by the sounds of discussion, and they hadn’t heard the conversation between the two. Right now, they felt somewhat dumbfounded when they saw this scene before them.
As Xiaoyun continued to stuff chili into Xinya’s mouth, she expressionlessly replied, “Senior’s complexion isn’t too good. I’m afraid the soldiers might make things difficult for her…”
“Mn, mn…” Xinya held back her tears and nodded continuously. This caused the two of them to be speechless as they silently mused, “Would they make things as difficult for her as you did?”
The expression of the vice headmaster at the door turned extremely ugly when he saw that no one stood out to admit it. Hence, he spoke in a heavy tone, “Since no one admitted to it, we can only cooperate with the investigation. After finishing your meal, everyone is to line up and return to your dorms. Without permission, you must not casually leave your dorm room. During meal times, there will be people who will specially lead you to the dining hall. Everyone, please maintain the order and do not take any overly drastic action.”
When these words were spoken, everyone was stunned.
What did this mean? Were they imprisoning them? What joke was this?
The group of people instantly started to make noise.
The vice headmaster wanted to say something, but the military officer stepped out and shouted, “Quiet!”
Xiaoyun continued to expressionlessly feed Xinya chili. Only when Xinya’s face turned bright red did she stop. She nodded. “Mn, your complexion is much more normal now…”
Xinya: “Boohoo, how is this normal? My lips are already swollen…”
Xiaoyun didn’t care about her. She stood up and raised her hand. “Headmaster, us here have finished dining…”
The headmaster and the officer were both startled slightly. They felt as though either this lass didn’t really understand the current situation, or there was something wrong with her mentally. Otherwise, how could she still smile so radiantly?
Yet, they didn’t know the smile on Xiaoyun’s face was simply something to hide the incomparable anxiousness in her heart.
She wanted to hurry back to her dorm. Now, despite this despairing situation, she knew in her heart that it wasn’t the end for her yet. As long as she could return to that game, that game might be able to save her!!!
