Chapter 579 "Know when you are beaten."-1
Joon Woo went on a rampage and verbally berated him in front of everyone. It's been two decades since he started this company and even when the times were tough he did his best to preserve the talents that they had.
It might not have always worked as few of them were eventually poached by his rivals but there was not one instance where he fired the whole band. Despite him being strict, he was always forward with them that would either help them motivate for their future project or let them know their limitation.
Those that succeeded got his recognition and always tried to go forward while those that knew they didn't got what it took, simply left on their own accord. It was an unorthodox approach to running the entertainment business but it worked for all these years, now his son was acting like he owned the place and did what he pleased without even asking him? That was unacceptable!
"Do you have anything to say for yourself?" He asked after calming down.
" Yes father! I know I was wrong with how I handled it but didn't you always teach me that our reputation is all that matters? By cutting them off preemptively, we might have avoided a media disaster!" He straightened his back and started speaking confidently.
" Kim was a valuable member of my team and believe me when I say this because I watched him work closely but going against the company's policy was a line he shouldn't have crossed?"
Company policy? Everyone looked around to see if there was such a restriction. They were all puzzled by his statement.
" There is a strict regulation on our idols to not date during their contract. It's a industry standard but I have seen plenty of photos of them talking and laughing together with that 'unknown' artist. It's didn't make the headline like the video but it's still bad for our image." He paused.
" It wouldn't be a problem if Kim had told me about his identity from the beginning but we don't even know who he is? Think about it for a second, if we associate with someone dangerous what would be the public sentiment? Hiding his identity gives him all the power and none for us, isn't that a losing game?" Jung made some sound points. Even his father was beginning to sway.
" Not just that, I never wanted to fire them except Yoona and Kim but they left on their own. I don't know what Kim promised them but if they want to follow him to their doom so be it. Why does the company care about such ungrateful people?"
" They left on their own?" Joon Woo was surprised to hear it.
" Yes, I even get them to pay the full penalty despite only half a year left on their contract. I doubled checked with the account's department, they confirmed the money." He was prideful about it.
" That's impossible! Isn't it a billion won for each of them? That's ten billion won?" Someone exclaimed hearing the number. It was ten million dollars and was not a small sum of money, even the top idols bands in the country would find it hard to arrange that amount of liquid money.
" Where did they get that kind of money?"
" Some of them liquidated their assets and also got scammed selling houses below the market price. I had everyone followed directly to the bank. That's where they pooled their money for the penalty fee."
" Are you sure?" For some reason, Joon Woo's senses were tingling just like Jung when he heard about it. It seemed like a idiotic move no matter how one saw it.
" Yes father, it must be Kim that brainwashed them into thinking that they could make it without the support of a label behind them. After all, he looked after them since they were teenagers. They always have blind trust in him." Jung was happy inside seeing her father return to his normal self.
" Bring me their termination contract for a second?" His father asked his secretary, hearing him say it Jung immediately started panicking again. That fucking condition! He hoped his father would come to the same conclusion as him.
Joon Woo, read every line from top to bottom as right as Jung suspected, he stopped at the additional condition that they put last minute.
" This?"
" I thought it was best to give them something so that they didn't think we were a bully! We still holds the right for their latest album that been going viral but other then that-"
" Is that something that they asked for specifically?"
" Yes."
" And don't you think that means something?"
" I know! But I am put an embargo with our rivals not to lend them any support! Even if they made a comeback they would never be able to climb the charts!" Jung had suspected it. He had stopped them before, doing it a second time was no a issue for him.
" Alright, I will not say anything. I already decided to take a back seat and observe how you two handle the business so if anything happens, it will be your fault alright?" Joon Woo was surprised to see how his oldest handled it, it was much better than he anticipated knowing his personality.
Meanwhile, Do Hyun was silent. He knew something was very wrong here, if they truly wanted to fight they could have went to court to fight for their money but they just handed everything to the company on silver platter like it was chump change?
Not to mention, he had met Kim several times and had quite a few conversation as they had frequent parties for promotion and making connections. He didn't sound like the kind of person that would burn it all up for no reason. He endured his brother for years? How could he buckled under such a obstacle?
" What if there is a third party pulling the strings behind the scenes?" He came to a sudden realization but his train of thought was cut short by his father's yell.
" Do Hyun! DO HYUN! Why are you daydreaming?"
" I am sorry-"
" Leave it. I will take care of the contract issue. It's a big incident, I have to step in to give some face to them. Alright everyone, we will meet here two days from now on for the same issue. I want everyone's best on this!" He said few encouraging words and left for his office.
Meanwhile Jung who was happy a little while ago was turning red with fury again, his father berated him in front of everyone but took it upon himself to resolve his little brother's issue? It was blatant bias that he wasn't even trying to hide it!
Jung knew his time was running out, within few years as his father gets more older and his younger brother gaining more and more experience, he would definitely be cast out of the business!
