Chapter 428 – 428. Into The Space
"Thank you for coming here today, I held this meeting to make sure everybody understands the direction I want the companies to take. Bobby is the CEO of FutureTek and the Vice-Chairman of Dragon Holdings, he knows it already and was leading the entire company as well as its world-renowned R&D department towards this direction.
"As we all know already, I am going to space next month. My focus is to mine the moon. As some of you already know, Helium-3 is the main item we are looking for, it will be the fuel that runs the Fusion reactors that we are developing. Along with that, we are building many more world-changing technologies that have the possibility of boosting human civilisation by decades.
"The world does not know, but technology is booming so fast that by the time most of you will die of old age, we'd probably be in the age of space. The Moon has many more things we can mine, there is oxygen, water, metals and other minerals. There are asteroids out there made of metal.
"My main goal is to boost Earth as a civilisation, we can not just mindlessly mine Earth and use all resources, we only have one planet that can naturally harbour us, and we need to protect it.
"This is why I want you all to focus on developing tech, projects and medicine with the future and space in mind. If you need any help, FutureTek R&D will help. If you think you want to develop something, pass on the idea to FutureTek R&D, we have so many unused inventions that might end up being useful for you.
"Dragon Holdings is not just a company that owns the others, it's an umbrella. And like in an umbrella's frame, you are all connected. All companies need to utilise each other's expertise to move forward. This is why I am also creating a new office for Join Development Oversight. Their job will be to create synergy between the companies and if any of you have a problem, directly contact them."
Magnus ended his address. He didn't tell them about his dreams of colonising Mars and mining the 16 Psyche asteroid as they were plans that sound too absurd to those who have never heard of magic. But once he establishes the moon base, they will believe.
The meeting went on for a while longer, then Magnus held a meeting with only his closest associates.
"What I am worried about is colonising. There is no law that makes it so no country can claim territory in space. If we don't do something, in future all nations will want a colony in space, this will divide the moon and then the rest of the space. We need to unite everything, the colony I will be making is going to have people from all nations, but without formal rules, it's useless." Magnus revealed his worries.
Ted, Edgar, Bobby, Severus, Ragnar and Adrian were present there. Adrian gave the first idea, "Why don't we use the UN? You run it at this point. Make some sort of space treaty that's also very hard to get out of. As long as we can get the major nations to sign it, others will follow,"
"That is the only option left for now. Ted, get people to make the first draft, we will have the UN pass it and invite nations to join. At the same time, I want you to design a few flags for planet Earth, I will choose one of them," Magnus ordered them.
"Let's just hope nobody will weaponise space now," Bobby muttered.
It was a long term fear of a lot of nations ever since the Cold War started and then started the space race. They feared that either the US or the USSR would put nukes in space. Thankfully, that had not occurred until now.
"I'll Avada Kedavara the hell out of their asses. Anyway, I'm heading out. See you later at training, Bobby," Magnus tiredly left the meeting room.
…
This time he did go to Switzerland to meet the High Table. They had started to plead with him to meet them. However, the meeting was short-lived.
"Do you really think you will get forgiveness when you are not even being serious? Where is your Elder? Isn't he the one who runs the organisation? Fine, I showed you respect by coming here but you have just wasted my time. Every single minute that passes from now on will have one assassin dropping dead.
"I will be in my Palace, if you want to protect yourself and your little fun business then come to me, all of you, drop down to your knees and plead to me. Or else, you will die." He warned them in a dangerous voice. His patience was running out right now, as he only wanted the High Table's money.
…
His threats were not empty, it had been 3 days, meaning 4320 minutes since Magnus met them and exactly this many assassins had dropped dead, including one of the High Table members. Now, only 4 were left.
The threat was real, nobody could touch Magnus either at this point. They could not go after his family as that was as good as a death sentence, they could not go after his companies as they were covered under the protection of MEDA.
The High Table was quite literally fucked from all sides and they had nobody but themselves to blame. Hence, after three days, they all came to meet Magnus, the Elder also came.
They entered the Palace and arrived in his office. He first allowed them to have seats, "Hmm, finally we meet. 500 million dollars is the price on my head? I wonder who initiated it."
"We can tel…" the Elder wanted to speak, but then suddenly felt piercing pain in his brain. He fell down from his chair and screamed in pain. "AAAAA…"
"Do you think your flimsy mental shields can protect you from me? You fools, you think your small organisation of muggle assassins that uses simple guns can defeat me? You imbeciles saw yourselves as the devil, but in reality, you were just Devil's minions." Magnus, without an ounce of sympathy for them, read all memories from their minds forcefully. Then he quickly turned them into memory vials.
Once all four were mind broken, he called Adrian in, "Kill them all and send wizards to take their place. We shall run the Round Table from now on. A criminal organisation that does not kill innocents, but seeing how crap the world is, most people are not innocent."
Adrain saluted him, "It will be done. By next year, all these will choose and put a successor in their place."
Magnus waved his hand. Soon, he was left alone in the office, ~Hehe, so the High Table has 30 Billion in assets. The Elder himself has various oil fields. Easy money.~ He took out the phone and called Adam, "Dad, no need to worry anymore, push forward your research for EM Engine as fast as possible, even if it needs 20 Billion dollars, it's not a problem,"
…
14th December came, it was time to head to the Moon. Magnus, Ragnar and Bobby arrived at the Belize space centre days ago to prepare. Their families had also arrived, including Severus.
All the rocket parts were being inspected, then Magnus was asked to cast a large scale reparo charm on it to heal any damage to any part of the rocket. This was a fine example of technology meets magic. But of course, they had to coat all electrical components with anti-magic paint.
"How do I look?" Ragnar asked, wearing his flight suit. It was not a complete space suit as it was missing the backpack, but they didn't need it until they landed.
The suit was designed by real fashion designers and scientists working together. The material used was the best and the strongest they could find. The suit also had protective padding on the chest, hips, sides, shoulders and ankles. They were meant for maximum productivity and looks.
The strangest thing about it, however, was the flags. The British flag was only visible on the shoulder, meanwhile on the chest was a blue flag with 7 rings all intertwined together. This was the flag of Earth, representing the 7 continents.
"You didn't cut the hair, why?" Magnus scolded him.
"Fuck off, I'm not cutting them. I've tied them in a braid, that's all you will get from me." Ragnar barked.
Bobby sighed, "Can you tell me what were you working on all these days?"
Grinning, Ragnar nodded, "Yup, I just built a new Universal Testing Kit. It uses magic and a few potions, you just need to put in anything you want and it will tell you the composition accurately, along with percentage. This means you don't need to bring any modern heavy equipment for surveying."
*BAM* Bobby facepalmed himself, "You dumbass, then you should have told me before, all those machines are fixed now. They can't just be removed, that will delay the mission."
Magnus chuckled, "He's right, although your invention is amazing, Ragnar, at this stage, we can't do much,"
"Well, I didn't know I would be successful either, so I didn't say," Ragnar replied innocently. This time it was not his fault.
Patting his back, Magnus moved, "Don't worry, we will still use your Universal Testing Kit. And about the extra weight, if I can use the portkey, it won't even matter. Let's fix ourselves in the control capsule now,"
The three were in their astronaut suits and climbed the tower to the top of the rocket through an elevator. The whole way they were recorded and broadcast live.
After reaching the top, the technicians started strapping them in. The rocket control room was not made as crude as the American missions, this time things were kept simplistic with better lighting. It looked decently futuristic and modern. The seats were also much more comfortable.
Using hand signs, they okayed the technicians to close the lid of the capsule. Once they were alone, flight checks were done, mainly by Magnus and Bobby, while Ragnar kept an eye on a few gauges.
After a long 1 hour of such checks, they were finally ready to lift off. There was near to no possibility of any broken component anymore as Magnus had used his magic.
"Let's see the moon, boys," he cheered Bobby and Ragnar from his middle seat. The three were military men right now, Magnus being a Major at this point, was the mission commander.
"Mission control, we're ready to launch," he spoke into the comms.
The electrical voice affirmed, "Pendragon Z, all checks are clear, you are clear for lift off."
Soon after, the rumbling under their asses increased and the countdown started. "9"
"8"
"7"
"Man, I don't like peeing in the suit," Ragnar muttered.
"Haha, you only feel the warmth, brother. The rest is completely waterproof." Magnus laughed.
Bobby also laughed, "Get used to it, Rag. This is the cost of going to space,"
"4"
As the rumbling increased, the first visible flames started to appear.
"3"
"2"
"1"
*ZZZZZZ*
"GOD DAMN!" Magnus cursed as soon as he felt the G-force on himself. Thankfully, all three were absolute superhumans.
The rocket moved up, it looked very slow from afar but only those inside and nearby knew the speed. Seconds passed, the ground station didn't rejoice until it reached the lower atmosphere.
Once that was done, all screamed and cheered in excitement, hugging each other. After all, nobody wanted to burn their King, Crown Prince and the biggest business and scientific tycoon in one day. Rest, they prayed everything else goes smooth. Grace, Adam and Emma could only pray. Severus was just enjoying it though, he too was hooked on the comms to talk to them and help them in case any mental support was needed as he was very level headed at all times. Oh, how the tables had turned.
Meanwhile, the trio looked outside the whole time from the small windows. Everything started to turn darker slowly. But they felt the gravity that meant they were yet to reach real space.
