Chapter 367: To Thailand
“Let’s go to Hagrid. He makes the best chocolate milkshakes.” Ragnar suggested after their last class ended.
“Yeah, let’s go. Does he not feel lonely every once in a while?” Emma wondered.
Magnus sighed, “He’s a half-giant, Emma. Do you think anybody would have become his friend when he was in school as a student? That era was even more racist than now. All his life he’s only known isolation, so he probably feels more at home when alone.”
“Yes, that’s a possibility.” Severus nodded.
Magnus wondered then, “He’s a half-giant, right? A normal giant is anywhere from 20 feet tall to 25 feet tall. How do you think his wizard father was even able to do it with his mother?”
Everyone silently tried to think, but there was no bloody answer. It was like trying to insert a pencil inside a Hogwart’s sewage pipe. Ragnar scoffed, “Whatever, one thing is sure, Hagrid’s dad is the manliest madlad alive. I can’t even begin to think how he wooed a giantess and then bed her.
“I mean, his entire body could have been consumed by her, you know. Or maybe he just had a really huge instrument.”
“It’s fucked up no matter how you think about it,” Magnus muttered.
“Argh, it started raining… and look there.” Emma pointed her finger at a distance. A boy and a girl were running with robes over their heads.
“Is that James and Lily?” Ragnar noticed. It was hard to see in the middle of the heavy rain.
But, the two lovebirds came to them on their own. Indeed, it was James and Lily. Now, James was someone a bit insecure around Magnus, on top of there being bad blood in the past, he knew that nearly every girl was crazy over him, even Lily.
“Magnus,” James nodded at him.
“James, enjoying the rain I see. Well, have a good day.” Magnus passed by, not even sparing a glance at the girl beside him.
They continued on their way to Hagrid’s hut. They didn’t talk more about what they just saw, as they had no idea if Severus had feelings for her. Forgetting a crush of 5 years was hard. Even more so when she was a close friend.
*Knock Knock*
They knocked at Hagrid’s door. Soon, loud footsteps came and the gentle giant opened the door, “Blimey, what are yeh’ll doin’ here?”
Magnus entered, “We came to see you, Hagrid. You’re our friend after all.”
Hagrid smiled at that, there were not many people who would call him a friend. “Then come on in, I jus’ came back from the jungle. Wait, I outta put some milk on fire.”
There the giant went, to make their favourite chocolate milk. It must be Hagrid’s subconscious attempt to make people comfortable, Magnus thought.
“Hagrid, do you want a job?” Magnus asked him.
“Job? I got a job here at Hogwarts,” Hagrid confusedly replied.
“Do they pay you? Do you have a bank account?” Magnus inquired.
Hagrid nodded, “O’course, I get money every month and I’ve got meself an account too, used it when I was a student.”
What he meant was that he was cheap labour who didn’t even know how much he should be paid. “Well, Hagrid, I needed an expert in magical beasts, one who could help them medically. I am going to pay you money for that work.”
“What beasts yer talkin’ abou’?” Hagrid asked with interest.
“Just a few hippogriffs, Nundus, dragons, horned serpents, wumpus cats, Graphorn, winged horses, kappa, Fwooper, Murtlap, Hodag, Erumpant, Occamy, Thunderbird and many more. They live in my personal protected land, where they are provided safety from bad wizards.” Magnus revealed to him.
With each new name, Hagrid’s mouth went agape, eventually, he started to shake in excitement, “That’s wonderful, Magnus. Yer doin’ god’s work.”
“Yes, but if you accept, I need you to keep everything you see a secret for forever, their safety can only be ensured as long as nobody knows about them,” Magnus warned him. He knew the gentle giant had a bad habit of blurting secrets.
Hagrid confidently and resolutely looked at him, “I swear by my heart, I be dyin’ than betray those poor animals. Ah, milk is hot…”
“Hagrid, don’t you have a family? I would have liked to meet the giants someday and maybe bring them under the fold, so they never go along with Voldemort’s plans, as that only leads to destruction.” Magnus changed the topic.
“Yer right, Magnus. Nothin’ comes outta following that rascal. But my mum’s dead. Been years, my dad too. My dad was broken-hearted when she wen’. Tiny little bloke, my dad was, hehe. By the time I was six, I could lift him up an’ put him on top o’ the dresser if he annoyed me. Used ter make him laugh…” Hagrid reminisced about his past. For some reason, Magnus felt sympathy for him.
They just chatted with him until the rain didn’t stop. They drank chocolate milk and heard stories from Hagrid, his adventures inside the forbidden forest and what not. The guy was much relaxed now actually, after all, he was acquitted of crimes that he never committed. The Ministry had apologised to him and got him a new wand.
But the fact was, he still only had 3rd year’s knowledge of magic as he was expelled. But Magnus was offering him the job so he could learn from Martha in Camelot. People like Hagrid were really simple-minded, and about him telling Dumbledore, well that will be settled when Hagrid signs the contract.
“See you later, Hagrid. I will send you the employment contract later. Take care.” The three waved at him and left his small hut.
“BOWWW!”
Hagrid looked back at his dog, “Fluffy, don’ ask fer treats from others, you give meself a bad name.”
…
They all returned to their dorms, Magnus was to leave for Thailand the next day. He told Emma to come to his room after packing the bags at the right time.
“How do I look?” she asked.
“Ten out of ten. Now, hold on to me with your suitcase, we are going home first.” Magnus told her and took out a portkey. He was perhaps the only student allowed to do all this.
She seductively hugged his body with a grin, “Let’s goooo…”
He chuckled at her shenanigans and disappeared. A moment later, they arrived in Magnus’ new villa, in his room. “Wait for me in the living room, I need to go to the Palace first, I will be going to Thailand with a muggle delegation this time.”
However, as soon as Magnus opened the door of his room to walk out, his mum appeared. He was taken aback, as he thought she’d be in the hospital having resumed her work.
“Ah… m-mum… how are you?” He asked.
Grace was also surprised, “When did you come? And why do you look so scared?”
“Nothing… I am going to Thailand for official business.” He replied.
“OH! Hello, Mrs Grant, how are you?”
*FACEPALM*
Magnus glared back at Emma for coming out just now. He noticed Grace’s teasing eyes. She chuckled, “Oh my my, Emma? Are you going to Thailand as well?”
“Yes, my birthday is coming and he offered me to celebrate there.” She blurted.
“How romantic, ah, Adam is like this too, always surprises me with his romantic ideas. Okay, I won’t disturb you two, have fun, my sweeties.” She patted their heads and left.
“Why did you tell her everything?” He pressed Emma.
Emma blurted, “Why should we keep a secret from her? She already knows that we’re dating. And… she’s like an angel, I can’t lie to her and sin.”
Magnus just sighed, “Fine, just go to her and talk a little, I will be back soon.”
He apparated away to meet the queen and the deligation at the Buckingham Palace. Meanwhile, Emma went to Grace. She also played with the three little additions to the family.
Grace soon cheerfully brought a large book, “Come, Emma, I will show you Magnus’ childhood photos.”
With stars in her eyes, she rushed to the opportunity. And just then, somewhere in London, a certain blonde boy felt a shiver run down his body.
…
Emrys Construction HQ,
“You got the proposal ready?” Magnus questioned.
“Yup, everything’s done. Land acquisition simulation, cost of construction, revenue generated, everything has been calculated. We only need the right agreement from the Thai government now.” Edgar informed him.
“Good, Thailand is a monarchy right now, great threats of communism are looming over it, not to mention, the military is too strong there, massacres are common these days. The king is anti-communist, thankfully.” Magnus muttered, already done his homework.
“But your other demand is a bit too much I’d say, I don’t see them selling their land to you honestly,” Adrian suggested.
Magnus just chuckled, “You two have no idea how far my hands reach now. The Thai King will surrender as long as a strong enough threat is placed on his country. All thanks to a certain new friend I made from the Soviet Union. Let’s go now,”
[A/N: Serious question, how did Hagrid’s mum and dad do it?]
