Fang Heng thought for a moment and said, “To the distant visitors, we are the guardians of the mausoleum of Empress Persephone. We mean no hostility towards you. The Frostbone Dragon’s state is unstable, and we need to conduct an immediate inspection; otherwise, the entire mausoleum will be damaged.”

Tan Shuo traced his finger across the stone slab, using necromantic power to etch the text into the surface according to Fang Heng’s instructions.

Li Shaoqiang, still uncertain, asked, “Mr. Fang, do you really think this will work?”

“I don’t know, we’ll have to try!” Fang Heng replied, then scanned the surroundings, his gaze settling on several tattered, corroded white cloths in the corner of the stone chamber.

“And take that with us. Let’s go!”

In truth, it was the time constraint that had forced Fang Heng into this decision.

According to the death knight, these intruders came to the mausoleum to seek knowledge inscribed on the coffin by Empress Persephone.

They likely wouldn’t want to see the mausoleum destroyed.

So, there was a chance!

In the Frostbone Dragon mausoleum, the undead faction had just finished clearing out the mausoleum guardians and priests who had intruded during the chaos, restoring order.

Fortunately, the disturbance had not affected the two undead council central elders who were focused on condensing and inscribing textual information. The remaining guardians and priests were stationed at the passage entrances, keeping them out of the way.

The central elder who had been heavily injured had retreated to rest in the back.

“Teacher, what was that Death God we saw just now?”

Ji Xiaobo, seeing a Death God for the first time and intrigued by the divine great holy sword it wielded, approached the injured central elder, Timer, with questions.

“The Death God is an enforcer of the Death Realm, maintaining its normal operation. It is said that in the prosperous era of the Death Realm long ago, the number of Death Gods was countless,” Timer said, shaking his head slightly. “But with the disappearance of Empress Persephone, the number of Death Gods gradually decreased. In recent centuries, they have become quite rare.”

Feudal Lord Dani, overhearing their conversation, couldn’t help but interject, “What exactly do you mean by maintaining the normal operation of the death realm?”

“It refers to reincarnation.”

“When humans die, their souls are drawn into the death realm, where they languish in the swamp of reincarnation until their consciousness is completely scattered and absorbed by the death realm, falling into reincarnation.”

Timer explained calmly, “However, as humanity has gradually mastered divine powers, our souls after death are often influenced or controlled by various special forces, or protected, or detained, preventing them from being drawn into the death realm.”

Ji Xiaobo raised his eyebrows and said, “Are you referring to the resurrection techniques of the Holy Realm?”

Feudal Lord Dani also looked at Timer with a questioning gaze.

Undoubtedly, the Holy Realm was renowned for its proficiency in resurrection magic.

The players believed that strong beings from the Holy Court could be resurrected countless times after death because their souls were protected by special powers and the Holy Realm, thus not being dragged into the death realm for reincarnation.

And because the undead faction also could control the souls of the dead and counteract the Holy Court’s resurrection techniques, they were feared by the Holy Court.

“Indeed, the Holy Realm is one such example. Many talented races and scholars, such as elves, vampires, and practitioners of alchemy, mysticism, elemental science, and natural science, including us necromancers, can temporarily preserve souls after death, remold the body, and resurrect the soul upon the flesh.”

Timer nodded and added, “For the death realm, such methods disrupt the normal cycle of reincarnation.”

“Death Gods exist to ensure the proper functioning of reincarnation.”

“You must understand that thousands of years ago, using resurrection abilities was far from simple. Resurrections would attract the attention of Death Gods, and one mistake could result in the death of both the resurrected and their companions.”

“However, with the disappearance of Empress Persephone, the number of Death Gods has been declining year by year. Now, resurrection has become quite easy.”

Feudal Lord Dani and Ji Xiaobo were hearing such secrets for the first time.

“The decline of Death Gods is related to the disappearance of Empress Persephone?”

Elder Timer glanced at Feudal Lord Dani and shook his head, “We’re not sure, but we believe it’s connected to the Holy Realm. The Central Council has received some reports that the Holy Realm has been involved in actions to hunt Death Gods. Most people desire resurrection, so they try every means to eliminate the troublesome Death Gods when attempting to revive.”

“From the records we’ve recently obtained in the mausoleum, it appears that a significant portion of the soul power returning to the death realm for reincarnation was absorbed by the death realm, becoming part of its strength.”

“However, as reincarnation becomes increasingly disrupted, the power of the death realm is also affected. The strength of the death realm has been declining year by year, though this decline is very slow. We don’t know what might happen when the power of the death realm diminishes to a certain level, but the undead council is very concerned.”

As they were discussing, Ji Xiaobo suddenly seemed to see something strange. He rubbed his eyes and gently nudged Elder Timer, “Teacher Timer, what’s that over there?”

The group turned to follow Ji Xiaobo’s gaze.

At the end of the passage, a mausoleum guardian priest was approaching them slowly, holding a white flag aloft. Even more peculiar was that the scattered mausoleum guardians who had been appearing at the passage were now being blocked by two other priests stationed at the passage opening, effectively sealing it off.

The scholars in the cavern were momentarily stunned by this unusual sight.

What’s going on?

The necromancers watched as the three mausoleum guardians moved closer, their confusion apparent. They all turned to the central elder with questioning looks.

The central elder, Timer, was equally baffled by this strange development.

“This is odd,” Timer murmured. “Do mausoleum guardians even surrender?”

But the thought struck Timer that they might not need to surrender. In the mausoleum, their willpower and mental strength were restored very slowly. They would likely have to withdraw after a day or two due to exhaustion.

“Elder Timer, what should we do?” one of the scholars asked.

“Let’s hold off on taking any action for now,” Timer said, frowning as he continued to observe the peculiar priests, unsure of what to make of the situation.

At that moment, Ji Xiaobo suddenly shouted, “Look! The stone slab!”

The group turned their gaze to where Ji Xiaobo pointed and was met with astonishment.

What’s that?

Stone slab?

There was something engraved on it.
