Chapter 77: Glorious Sun
Chapter 77: Glorious Sun
The key jade slip in front of Xu Disheng vibrated, emitting a halo of light. Xu Disheng lowered his gaze and picked it up.
After a while, the youth put the jade slip back down, black vortexes spinning subtly in his eyes. “The Inner Disciple Tournament of Mingxin Mountain Range is in half a month,” he muttered.
He stood up and took out another jade slip, examining it carefully.
This was a map of the Mingxin Mountain Range that he had found in Chen Xingzhou’s storage pouch. It was convenient for him to take it out and look at it.
His own location was marked on the map with a blinking white point of light, and the densely packed green lights were the several hundreds of mountain peaks. Each of the peaks were labeled with their names.
“Canxia Peak…”
The green point representing Canxia Peak wasn’t that far. It was only several dozen li away, with several mountain peaks in between.
Xu Disheng left the palace room and summoned his own black Spirit Cloud, heading directly for Canxia Peak. The purple Spirit Cloud was too conspicuous. Plus, he was on Morning Dew Peak, so it would be easy for people to notice that it had originally belonged to Chen Xingzhou. Xu Disheng planned to get rid of it along with the rest of the things.
When he arrived at Canxia Peak, he discovered that it was more flourishing and busy than the surrounding Peaks. There would frequently be disciples landing and entering the Peak, going into the glamorous marketplace.
Behind every marketplace, there was a Peak-Master level existence at the Dao Foundation stage, so no one ever dared to cause trouble here.
The scale of the marketplace at Canxia Peak wasn’t small. As far as the eye could see, the place was bustling with activity, with hundreds of disciples manning vendor stalls and shops lined up in great numbers. Although it was a bit noisy, it wasn’t chaotic. It could still be considered neat and in good order.
When Xu Disheng landed the Spirit Cloud and entered the giant gate of the marketplace, he was immediately welcomed by a disciple with a clever air to him. He smiled and said, “Senior Martial Brother, do you need a guide? It’ll just be 2 spirit stones. I guarantee you’ll be completely satisfied with the service.”
After thinking for a bit, Xu Disheng nodded.
A delighted expression appeared on the disciple’s face and he said, “Senior Martial Brother, my name is Feng Zhao. Are you here to buy or sell?”
Xu Disheng glanced past him and saw that there were several disciples standing underneath the gate who would come forward and speak to the disciples that were entering the marketplace. He nodded slightly and said, “I want to sell some random junk, then buy some Spirit Tools.”
Feng Zhao’s eyes lit up. Buying Spirit Tools involved bigger transactions of spirit stones that usually amounted to several dozen spirit stones. If he brought along a customer who ended up successfully completing a purchase of Spirit Tools from that store, he could also receive a small commission fee.
Feng Zhao’s expression became even more polite and he smiled. “So you want to sell some junk, I got you. I know of a shop where they are always willing to accept an item, regardless of its past history!” Feng Zhao said, deliberately stressing the word ‘junk’.
He immediately led Xu Disheng past those vendor stalls, heading straight for the depths of the marketplace. There was a hall with a black sign board attached above. What was strange was that the sign board was glossy like a mirror, as if there were no words engraved on it.
When they entered the hall, there was an old man sitting cross-legged inside. Seeing Feng Zhao bring someone in, he asked, “Bringing someone?”
Feng Zhao retreated to the side, not speaking further, in an evident display of suitable behavior.
Xu Disheng surveyed the hall. The interior was decorated simply, and there were only several ordinary Spirit Tools.
Noticing that it seemed to be Xu Disheng’s first time here, he smiled and said, “Go ahead and take out your things. We accept everything here, but because of that the buying price will be slightly lower than other places.”
Xu Disheng took out a storage pouch and dumped several Spirit Tools, a pile of cultivation method jade slips, and a miscellaneous assortment of other things in the middle of the hall.
The elder seemed to have seen this kind of scene a lot. He roughly examined the things and said, “1 Spirit Tool with seals, 3 ordinary Spirit Tools, 12 cultivation method jade slips, 6 high-grade Martial Treasures… And a bunch of trash.” He shook his head and continued, “This is your first time coming, so I’ll offer you 200 spirit stones for these things. How’s that?”
In fact, just that Spirit Tool with seals on it, the Three Suns Sword, cost over 100 spirit stones alone. Much less the 3 ordinary Spirit Tools, which cost 40-50 spirit stones apiece.
However… There were a lot of trash items included. The elder not becoming hostile to him on the spot was already showing Xu Disheng plenty of benevolence.
Xu Disheng nodded and said, “Okay.”
The old man nodded in praise and said, “Straightforward enough.” He counted out the spirit stones and gave them to Xu Disheng, then turned to Feng Zhao with a smile and said, “Little Fifth, next time bring more of these kinds of customers. Here’s your tip.”
He tossed 5 spirit stones over to Feng Zhao.
Feng Zhao received the spirit stones and thanked him, then brought Xu Disheng out of the hall.
As soon as they stepped out of the door of the hall, he nervously turned to Xu Disheng and said, “Senior Martial Brother, this place specializes in accepting those things that… don’t quite have an upright history, so the prices they give are a bit lower. But it’s still extremely convenient.”
Xu Disheng nodded, not concerned about it. “No problem. They still have to make a profit somehow.”
Feng Zhao breathed a sigh in relief. Earlier, when he heard Xu Disheng say that he wanted to sell some ‘junk’, he immediately understood. Normally, when he met people who used such wording, they pretty much all had some other disciple’s storage pouch. He had some experience regarding this, so he decided to directly bring Xu Disheng here.
“That shop only takes in and buys items. What do you want to buy, Senior Martial Brother? I’ll bring you wherever you want to go,” Feng Zhao said.
Xu Disheng looked at the multitude of vendor stalls in the marketplace and asked, “What’s the difference between the vendor stalls and the shops?”
Feng Zhao said, “I see this is your first time at Canxia Peak’s marketplace, so you may not be aware, but all of the shops are old and have a long history. Some have even been open for several hundred years, but they all have an extremely trustworthy reputation. The ones who set up stalls here are pretty much all disciples of nearby Peaks who have a lot of liquid wealth on their hands. However, there are crooks mixed in with the honest folk, and it’s very easy to be scammed.”
He pointed towards a nearby stall at a disciple who was currently immersed in picking something out, and continued, “Only experienced disciples who are familiar with this marketplace and have a good eye can sift through these vendor stalls, and from time to time, they might even be able to find something nice. If a newcomer like Senior Martial Brother were to try going to these stalls, you would normally come away from the experience heartlessly scammed.”
Xu Disheng nodded his head and said, “I want to buy some high-grade Spirit Tools.”
Feng Zhao agreed, taking note that Xu Disheng said ‘some’. He brought Xu Disheng to the heart of the marketplace and pointed at the most impressive, luxurious looking four-storied pavilion. “This is the Yunxia Pavilion. It’s the biggest shopfront in this marketplace, and their selection of items on hand is very comprehensive, albeit a bit more pricey. But their reputation can definitely be trusted, since this place is a property of the Peak Master of Canxia Peak. If you find that the item you bought isn’t suitable, you can come back within a limited amount of time to return and exchange the item. It’s a truly conscientious policy.”
The two of them entered Yunxia Pavilion. There were four good looking female disciples standing by on both sides of the pavilion. When they saw them enter, they politely curtsied in greeting.
Another woman of great beauty came forward, glancing at Feng Zhao, who was behind Xu Disheng. She asked Xu Disheng, “This Senior Martial Brother, what would you like to buy today?”
“High-grade Spirit Tools,” Xu Disheng replied curtly.
The woman’s eyes lit up, and she took on a polite, business-like bearing. “Please come right this way to the second floor, Senior Martial Brother.”
The second floor was even more extravagant. There were high-grade Spirit Tools on display all over the place, every one of them twinkling with radiance. None of them were ordinary items, much like the Severing Spirit Seal in Xu Disheng’s storage pouch.
However, their prices were also mind boggling. The cheapest of them was 200 spirit stones. The ones that could still be considered somewhat manageable were as much as 500 spirit stones.
Xu Disheng’s thoughts suddenly stirred and he asked, “Do you have any Magic Treasures here?”
The beautiful woman stared blankly at him, losing a bit of her lovely, coquettish air. Her expression became more serious as she replied softly, “We do. But Magic Treasures are too expensive. If Senior Martial Brother wants to choose a Magic Treasure, you must first show at least 1000 spirit stones.”
Xu Disheng tossed over a storage pouch. The beautiful woman received it and looked through it, then respectfully handed it back to him. “Then I will have to ask Senior Martial Brother to please wait in the inner room for just a moment.”
Seated in the simple but elegantly decorated inner room, Xu Disheng was waiting patiently as he drank a cup of spirit tea that was worth around a dozen spirit stones.
After a short while, a young man entered the room with a bright, cordial smile on his face, which gave others a good impression with a single glance. The youth handed over a jade slip and said smilingly, “This Junior Martial Brother, these are the Magic Treasures we currently have in my Yunxia Pavilion.”
Xu Disheng took the record jade slip, submerging his consciousness into it and examining the list carefully.
There were phantom images of three Magic Treasures, slowly rotating around on display. There was an extremely brief, concise description beneath each, but there were no prices shown. This jade slip was very similar to the one in the Spirit Armament Pavilion in Spirit Origin Hall.
“Heart Assimilation Array Diagram, refined by the Spirit Master of Luminosity. Instantly lay out a complete Heart Assimilation Array. Once submerged in it, the mind becomes corrupted, transforming the target into a walking corpse.”
“Chunjun Sword, refined by Killing Heart Spirit Master. An unparalleled sharpness for cutting down all foes.”
(TL: This is a reference to the Chunjun Sword, which is a legendary sword in Chinese history, known as being one of the top ten famous swords in China. According to legend, it was made during the Warring States Period and belonged to Goujian, the King of Yue. .)
“Glorious Sun Bow, refined by the Pure Ocean Spirit Master, three Destruction Arrows included. Extremely powerful capability for slaughter.”
Xu Disheng furrowed his brow and asked, “These Magic Treasures all have only one power?”
A look of astonishment appeared on the young man’s face as he looked at Xu Disheng. “Every single Magic Treasure has a deep and immeasurable might. Those are just the simplified descriptions. For example, the Chunjun Sword can be used to damage enemies and ward off sword attacks, and its size can be altered at will. Once taken into the sea of consciousness, the sword blade even has a vast storage dimension. Junior Martial Brother, could it be you came to buy a Magic Treasure, yet don’t know a single thing about them?”
The young man was a bit doubtful. Usually, most people who had such status were either proud geniuses or descendents of those with strength equivalent to the rank of an Elder. Even if he was perhaps some Peak Master or the descendent of some Spirit Master, how could he be completely unaware of the might of a Magic Treasure?
Xu Disheng detected the young man’s doubt, but his expression remained unchanged. “What about the prices?”
The young man suppressed his thoughts. After all, his goal was to sell things. The identity or status of the other person was irrelevant to him. As he had been in the middle of thinking, a smile remained on his face. “1,900 spirit stones for the Chunjun Sword. The Heart Assimilation Array Diagram is 1,600 spirit stones, and the Glorious Sun Bow is 1,200 spirit stones.”
At the moment, Xu Disheng had more than 1,200 spirit stones on him. It would be considered a huge sum of money even for a Dao Foundation stage disciple.
He asked, “This bow is clearly extremely powerful, but why is its price so low?”
The young man’s face stiffened as he replied, “At the time, the Pure Ocean Spirit Master refined three Glorious Sun Bows, and they were originally priced at 1,500 spirit stones, each one coming with 50 arrows.” He shook his head and continued, “Afterwards, two of the Glorious Sun Bows were bought by others, and one of the two customers bought a large majority of the Destruction Arrows belonging to the last Glorious Sun Bow. That’s why this bow is a little cheaper.”
Without arrows, how could it be used? Curiously enough, this Magic Treasure turned out to be a disposable item.
The young man seemed to see through Xu Disheng’s thoughts as he hurriedly followed up, “Junior Martial Brother, this bow can be used normally by forming arrows from profound qi, but it will just be a little less powerful. How about this? If you’re interested, I’ll take responsibility and sell it to you for only 1,100 spirit stones. What do you think?”
Xu Disheng pondered for a moment, then took out his storage pouch and made an inventory of 1,100 spirit stones, placing them on top of the table.
The young man’s face became even brighter as he accepted the spirit stones. Smiling widely, he said, “You have a good eye, Junior Martial Brother. The slaughtering ability of this bow is extremely strong. Although you’ll need to be a little bit economical with how you use the arrows, on ordinary occasions, it’ll be fine to use profound qi to form arrows.”
