Chapter 655: What is the truth? - Part 3

Noah could not stop thinking about Aria as he drove like a maniac on the road. Every time he closed his eyes, he only saw Aria's miserable and ashen face, and every time...every damn time, he wished to beat himself up for the pain he had caused Aria. His heart clenched in pain and he felt like slapping himself.

He swerved the steering and took a less crowded path until he reached an almost deserted road before he pressed hard on the brakes. In his frustration, he punched the steering wheel hard and let out a roar, one that was filled with anguish and anger. Even his eyes teared up and turned red.

While on one hand, he had hurt his beloved, and on the other, her father had accused his grandfather of crimes that he could not even imagine. He could not and would never believe that his grandfather was such a person. That man had been his idol since childhood and he worshipped him. There was no way he would be involved in such horrible matters.

However, now that his sanity was returning slowly, Noah realized how big of an idiot he had been and what a grave mistake he had committed by hitting Oliver.

'Ian and Joshua were right. I should have handled the situation rationally. I..." Noah let out a growl in annoyance and clutched the steering wheel tight.

"There must a misunderstanding here. As far as I know..." Noah mused and looked far ahead, not knowing where he was and what he was staring at. "Oliver is not the one to blame people baselessly. Grandpa must have been a victim of someone's schemes. I'm sure of it. Definitely." Noah thought and his face brightened up considerably.

"That has to be the case. Yes, I'm sure there is a misunderstanding here and I need to find the actual truth."

With that thought in mind, Noah started the car again and drove towards his grandfather's mansion. Although he believed the old man's innocence, he still had to find out how and why he had ended up in the same place and at the same time as Charles and Jared.

'Aria, I'll find out the truth and make things right. I promise.' Noah smiled faintly and let out a sigh. 'I will return things to normal. Just wait and watch, Aria. Just wait and watch."

The butler was surprised yet happy to see Noah arrive. Although it was unexpected, he was nevertheless excited to see the young man.

"Sir, you are here. Master had been speaking about you all this time and he was especially remembering you today. I guess telepathy works and you heard him." The old butler smiled, his eyes sparkling brighter than stars.

"Where is grandpa?" Noah did not smile, his serious expression forcing the enthusiastic butler to calm down and look at him carefully.

Though he could not point out what, there was something odd about the young man. There was urgency on his face and the butler's smile vanished the next instant.

"Master is in his study. He will be delighted to see you."

Noah just nodded at the man before striding away in the direction of the study. On his way, he ignored all the helpers who greeted him. He was too in a hurry to even stop by and acknowledge their greet.

Seeing him bolt past them like a hurricane, the servants stood still with questioning eyes. This was the first time they were seeing their young master in such a rush and they could not help but wonder about it even though it was impossible for them to find out the answer to their questions.

Noah ignored all of them and did not stop running until he was right outside his grandfather's study. He lingered outside for a few seconds as he took deep breaths to calm his raging heart before he knocked at the door and without waiting for his grandfather's orders, he entered the study the next instant.

"Did I not give out the instructions that no one..." Jonathan raised his head and his eyes widened in astonishment when he saw who had barged into his study suddenly. "Oh my, Noah. What brings you here? I never expected you to see here today."

Although Jonathan was surprised, he was nevertheless ecstatic to see his grandson here and he beckoned him towards him. "Take a seat, son." He closed the file he was studying and smiled widely.

Noah strode briskly towards and took the chair opposite as he observed him carefully. 'Grandpa is so happy to see me here. How can such a person be cruel and crooked? Now, I'm all the more sure that it was all a misunderstanding. It has to be.' Noah thought to himself, not showing any expression depicting his thoughts and maintained a calm face in front of his grandfather.

"How are you, Noah and how is Aria? I hope you two are doing fine." Jonatha queried and kept smiling like an old fool. "It's been days since I last saw her. I should take some time and meet the lady. Shouldn't I?"

"Grandpa...ummm..." Noah hesitated not knowing how to start to conversation and Jonathan raised his brows and gave him a look.

"Is something the matter, son? What happened?" He leaned forward and placed his hands on the table. "Is everything fine between you and Aria?"

"That is a question even I do not have an answer to right now. What can I tell you, grandpa?" Noah mumbled and scratched his forehead.

"Pardon. Did you say something?" Jonathan's forehead creased and he stared at his grandson in worry.

"Grandpa, I am here to ask you something....something important." Noah mustered all the courage in him and shifted to the topic he had in mind.

"Yes, go ahead, Noah. What do you want to ask?" Jonathan urged with a smile and Noah took a deep breath before he fixed on the old man.

"Grandpa, have you ever heard about Mission Code X?" Noah scrutinized his grandfather's face and his heart dropped when he saw the man's eyes quivering slightly. Albeit only for a second, he had still seen it and that was all Noah needed to feel his heart crumble into pieces.
