At this moment, in one place in the Dark Mist Forest, something unusual was happening. All the beasts, birds, and hidden monsters were running away, colliding with each other, but not paying attention.
Their only goal was to get as far away as possible from the place where the frightening aura was coming from. Their instincts told them that they had to run away, otherwise, there was a real risk of dying.
There was only one person who outwardly remained calm with eyes as cold as ancient glaciers, but his aura was like a chaotic flame consuming everything around him.
Zayne's gaze was fixed on Edvin, he couldn't look away because he didn't want to. Then, for the first time, a feeling that had been unfamiliar to him before manifested itself in Zayne.
It was greed, no, hunger for power. Even when facing Enar or Selania, Zayne's main goal was not to defeat them for the sake of becoming stronger. However, looking at Edvin, something had changed.
Edvin was also a member of the Shattered Moon Order, a man and ultimately a human, a resident of this world just like everyone else.
Though Zayne hadn't seen Edvin fight or what he was capable of, the dense aura was enough to show how much difference there was between them.
...
"Hm? What is this?" Marcus muttered, as he instinctively turned to the side. That was where the Dark Mist Forest was, and he knew it since he was very familiar with the regions of the Dark Lands.
Whoooosh.
At the same moment, a white flash headed towards him, approaching Marcus at a tremendous speed. Lingtfang's short but sharp claws turned the beast into a deadly disk that could easily cut off Marcus' arm or any other limb.
"Shut up." Marcus arrogantly said, extending his arm forward.
Despite the speed and momentum Lightfang possessed, Marcus's arm was unharmed. In fact, he easily stopped the monster's main attack.
"I'm trying to figure out what's going on, so hindering me was a big mistake." Marcus coldly said before throwing the monster forward like a ball.
Lightfang's body, collapsed against the massive boulder, simply exploding due to the immense pressure. The cute beast's body, already with a blank stare, slowly slid down to the ground, leaving only a bloody stain in its place.
"Agh... I think that's enough. Considering my support, the others should have gotten by now." Marcus sighed, slicking his hair back.
ραndαsnοvεl.cοm There were several dozen Lightfangs lying around him. When he noticed that they were heading towards Sara and the others, he immediately followed the large cluster of bright flashes.
Lightfangs acted strategically like humans to some extent. Before attacking someone, they would send only a fraction of the total squad out to scout, usually one-third.
So, Sara, Fosca, and the other two Fate Knights, only faced a small portion of the opponents while Marcus dealt with the main group.
Considering his level of strength, it was no problem for him. Every Lightfang, especially the younger ones, was only at Champion Grade. If necessary, he could kill hundreds of such opponents.
"Well, I guess we should head back. See how the others are doing. It's their first time working as a team, and something could definitely go wrong." Marcus shook his head before heading towards the central part of the ruins.
However, no sooner had he taken a few steps than a chill ran down his spine, causing him to abruptly grab his sword and turn around.
At the same moment, a black ray, collided with the sword blade, causing sparks, then the ray flew off to the side, destroying one of the debris of the ancient ruins.
"Damn, I was hoping you wouldn't show up." Marcus muttered with a slight frown, looking at a massive shadow emerging from behind a wide column.
It was Lightfang, too, only this one was much different from the others. It was much larger, only slightly shorter than the taller Marcus, with had short black fur and two red eyes with short horns.
Black Lightfang had five tails instead of the two that the regular ones had. Obviously, Black Lightfang was much stronger than its smaller counterparts.
"Arisen Grade... Right here and now... It looks like our luck has long since left us, but we're just now finding out about it." Marcus muttered with a bitter smile.
Then he confidently stepped forward and said, "Well, in that case, let's see what you can do. I'm sure you want to avenge your kin, don't you?"
Whooooosh.
Marcus's long sword flashed with blue flames as particles of fire flew before his eyes. There had been little emotion on his face before, however, now he had a confident smirk. He wanted this fight, or to face someone significant.
Black Lightfang was wary, the monster thought he could easily defeat Marcus, but that assumption was far from reality. Now, each of them would have to go through an uphill battle, and only one of them would be left alive.
...
Crackle.
Sara swung her sword while cutting two LightFangs at once. She had already killed a few monsters, and the others were trying to keep up with her, maintaining their overall pace.
"Fine, we'll be done with everything soon!" Sara exclaimed confidently when suddenly several white flashes swept by her side.
She didn't have time to react because the attack wasn't directed at her, but at whoever was standing behind her.
"Agh!" Fosca shrieked in surprise as she hurriedly thrust her daggers into the ground, causing powerful wind currents. They threw the Lightfangs back, but just now Fosca had expended a lot of energy.
"Are you okay?" Sara asked with a worried expression.
"Yeah... It was just unexpected, those monsters are actually fast." Fosca nodded, as her confident grin returned to her face.
Although she was only a First Rank Fate Knight, she had killed almost as many Lightfangs as Sara, the difference between them was negligible. However, the other two Fate Knights were lagging behind, though none of the four of them had been injured yet.
After all, White Lightfangs were only Champion Grade, for the Fate Knights, they couldn't be a problem even if there were hundreds of them.
"Fine, in that case, let's continue. There are only a few opponents left, it's a good thing they didn't show up here..."
"Didn't show up who?" Fosca asked as she gave Sara a questioning look, she didn't understand why Sara stopped.
However, Sara wasn't going to answer her, instead she abruptly turned around and grabbed Fosca's arm.
Before Fosca could realize anything, Sara pulled her aside, then she saw two blue flashes, gradually getting brighter.
Crackle. Crackle. Crackle.
Two medium-sized Lightfangs, collapsed into the fallen column at tremendous speed, shattering it apart like crushers with their sharp claws spinning at high speed.
"Get up!" Sara exclaimed sternly, thus quickly bringing Fosca to his senses.
"Yes!" Fosca nodded, got up from the ground, and clutched her daggers tightly, glaring at her new opponents.
The two Blue Lightfangs pulled their heads out of the pillar and stared intently at Sara and Fosca. Unlike the White ones, they were larger and had three tails as well as one short horn on their foreheads.
"Blue ones...?" Fosca muttered in a confusion. She knew nothing about White Lightfangs which were the most common species, so she had no information about the rarer Blue Lightfangs.
"Yes." Sara nodded, "There are no significant differences between them other than the ones you see. However, they are significantly stronger and most bestiaries rate them as Terror Grade."
Fosca was wary. It shouldn't have been a problem for Fate Knight to handle a Terror Grade monster, however, there were many different monsters in the Terror Grade. Some were weaker while others were much stronger.
A few Lightfangs were able to almost wound her, so Blue Lightfangs posed a serious danger to her and she should be prepared for it.
"Hmm, from the looks of it, the left one is a bit stronger, I'll take him on. Can you handle the other one?" Sara asked with a serious expression.
"Sure." Fosca nodded, "I'll do whatever is necessary. They won't let us out of here anyway. The only thing left out there is to fight."
"Well said." Sara uttered before lunging forward while rare electrical discharges spread across her sword.
Sara's sword was different from the one Marcus had. It was longer, yet much thinner, almost like a spire.
This sword was specially made for her when she was promoted to Second Rank Fate Knight, and this sword matched her skills perfectly.
Crackle. Crackle. Crackle.
Gradually, the electric discharges grew larger, accumulating their power at the tip of the sword. Then, Sara jumped high, thrusting the sword forward, and in an instant unleashing outwards with all its power, creating a devastating lightning bolt.
Blue Lightfang was already ready for it, so to meet the lightning were three energy rays released from his tail.
Fosca watched the scene wide-eyed until the rays and lightning collided.
