Chapter 836 - Taking Their Sweet Time (2)
The news of Zhang Xianzhe being arrested by the authorities quickly spread throughout the industry and filled the headlines. Obviously, this was something Feng Tianyi prepared ahead, making sure that they would make a big issue out of it.
As expected the Zhang Corps' stocks came crashing down overnight. Feng Tianyi and Tang Moyu watched everything happening at the comfort of their own home while their children were busy playing with their toys on the floor.
The embezzlement case against Zhang Liang and his past offences were also revealed in public, dragging the Zhang family further down with him. Even his other brothers were helpless to save them. As the stocks continued to plummet, the future of the Zhang Corps was now uncertain.
The man who was seen shooting Yan Qiuyu on the recording was apprehended after two days once the authorities were able to identify him. Everyone was shocked when the media reported that the man was none other than the previous head of the Tang family and the woman that was killed by him was Tang Lixue's longtime girlfriend before marrying Zhang Wuying.
The talks about Tang Moyu being related to Yan Qiuyu spread around as netizens started to point out the uncanny resemblance between the two women. Obviously, people wanted to hear the empress's side and opinion over the matter, but the fact that she had a powerful backing protecting her made it impossible. No one dared to ask Tang Moyu about it.
How could Feng Tianyi allow those people to disturb his pregnant wife? Tang Moyu should be focusing on her pregnancy and shouldn't get stressed over nonsense questions that would only benefit other people.
Seeing the two people behind jail was enough for Tang Moyu. What had been done was already done. Even if they beg for forgiveness now, they wouldn't be able to turn back time and give back their mother's life.
Zhang Xianzhe's request for bail had been denied by the court and he didn't dare face the reporters. Outside, the media waited patiently for any update for the case. The news about the two families killing a woman, a commoner with no dime to her name was sensational.
It was obvious that Elder Tang decided to get rid of Yan Qiuyu, Tang Lixue's girlfriend to push the marriage between two families. With so many guests witnessing the recorded video during the party, it easily spread out within Shenzhen.
It was understandable that the two families would want a marriage arrangement to establish their connection since it had become the norm over the years. But killing an innocent woman to push their agendas caused uproar from the public.
At that moment, Tang Moyu thought to herself that she and Zhang Jiren would rather be born from a poor and humble family than to be related to people as heartless as the Tang and Zhang families.
If Tang Lixue hadn't died and found out the truth, how could he accept the cruel truth that his own father was actually the one who killed the love of his life and had taken his other child? Tang Moyu didn't dare answer the question as she knew how broken her father would be if he knew.
The next day, she and Zhang Jiren decided to confront their grandfather and Zhang Xianzhe in prison. Since Feng Tianyi was the one who arranged their visitation, they were able to avoid the public and easily sneaked in to meet the men responsible for Yan Qiuyu's death.
When Zhang Xianzhe saw Zhang Jiren accompanying Tang Moyu, he burst into laughter. Tang Moyu remained unfazed while Zhang Jiren remained calm beside her. With a thick glass wall separating them from the old man, they were only able to talk to him through the phone provided at the detention cell.
"I thought that I was able to change you— fool you to believe that you are one of us. I see now that I was wrong. You played us well, Tang Lingjun," he said once Zhang Jiren picked up the receiver on their side.
"You made a grave mistake by taking a Tang member in. You should know better that we, the Tangs, are opportunists. You lowered your guard and now you shall pay the price," Zhang Jiren said nonchalantly, hitting the marks accurately.
The old man in front of him, ever since the day Zhang Xianzhe picked him up from the orphanage, he never believed the lies that he was his father. What kind of father would abandon his own child at an orphanage and would only take him back when it was convenient to him?
Zhang Jiren felt that he was quite lucky to discover the truth and was able to spend time with Tang Lixue before the latter died from his illness. If he was a little too late, perhaps Zhang Xianzhe's plan to use him to conquer Tang Enterprise would happen and he would need to fight against his own sister.
Tang Moyu remained silent as she had no words to say towards Zhang Xianzhe, but that didn't mean the old man thought the same.
"You look just like her," he started, taking the empress's attention. "Your face is just like hers, but your personality and fierceness were like your father's."
The old man looked at the empress as if he was seeing, adoring another person. Tang Moyu frowned, not understanding what Zhang Xianzhe meant with that look.
"Is that a compliment or an insult?" she asked, her face one with disp.l.e.a.s.u.r.e.
This wasn't the first time she'd been compared to Tang Lixue, but what she hated the most about her father was that he was never strong enough to fight and protect his loved ones. He lost his beloved, his son, and yet, he also abandoned his own daughter by detaching himself from her.
Zhang Xianzhe only smiled and Tang Moyu's eyes widened in realization. This look, she couldn't be mistaken. It made sense to her now why this man was being haunted by the past like her brother said.
