Chapter 494: Danger In The Forest
“Ah...”
Suddenly, a pained cry came from the forest.
Haus and Toby rushed over immediately. Everyone else charged toward the voice as well.
But when they arrived, there was nothing there.
“Who just screamed?”
“Not me.”
“Me neither.”
“No one’s admitting it?” Haus’ expression was uncomfortable.
Everyone had heard the voice, so it couldn’t have been fake.
“Haus, check if anyone’s missing,” Toby said.
Haus found this logical too, so he said, “Everyone take a look around. Is anyone missing?”
“Leader, I think Brown is gone.”
How could he disappear without reason?
“Gone? Who was next to Brown? Come out.”
“Leader, I think that sound came from Brown?”
Haus and Toby’s hearts skipped a beat. “The forest is strange too,” Toby said in a low voice.
Haus’ spirits plummeted. “Are you saying it’s like what happened to you on the water?”
“Yeah.”
“Ah!”
Another voice sounded. This time, it was among the group.
“What happened? What happened?”
“There’s something underground. Warren sank in.”
“I saw a tree root-like thing wrap around him. He got dragged in.”
The atmosphere instantly turned suffocating. After all, Warren had been dragged underground right before them.
“Go. Leave this place first.” Haus found something amiss.
He wasn’t that obsessed with the money. After all, being alive was the most important thing.
If no one could live, then even the greatest sum of money was useless.
However, when the mercenaries turned around, they saw densely-packed specks of light in the direction that they’d come from. They were like the eyes of nightwalkers.
There were many of them and they kept making noises too.
The voices were like kids chattering. It was very dense.
Whoosh, whoosh—
Suddenly, these things started shooting things at them—many things.
Most of them were blocked by the surrounding trees, but some people still got hit.
“Fire! Fire!”
Bang, bang, bang—
Eek, eek.
When the creatures got shot, they made “eek” noises.
But soon, the little things spread out. Some climbed onto trees, some dug underground. Others hid in the shadows.
“Ow...” Toby was shot by that thing. He pulled it out of his thigh. It was a wooden thorn.
What exactly were these? Did they use blow darts?
When Toby had gone undergone a mission in South America, he’d once saw natives use similar weapons.
“We can’t keep going back. We can’t see them at all. They’re not threatening, but there are honestly too many of them.”
Haus also understood this logic. They could only continue forward.
Suddenly, something tightened around Haus’s foot. Then he was dragged back by a vine.
Reacting quickly, Toby pounced and cut the vine around Haus’s foot with an army knife.
“D*mmit, what’s going on?” Haus roared with clenched teeth.
...
“Gunshots?” Yura’s face filled with doubt. “Cheryl, did you hear gunshots?”
“Where? No.” Cheryl was pretending to be clueless.
If Yura could hear it, how could she not?
But at times like this, she couldn’t say something like, “You stay here. I’ll go out and look.”
Her mission was to protect Yura, ensuring that she wouldn’t run around.
Even though she really wanted to join the battle and help, but Chen Zhao wouldn’t let her join at all. Plus, Princess was blocking the door.
Even though Cheryl was very strong, she still had to admit defeat before Princess.
A slap from Princess could break all her bones.
“There definitely were.” Yura looked at Cheryl. “Cheryl, we’re friends, right?”
Cheryl covered her face. She was the most scared of this move.
“Did my brother hide something from me but tell you instead?”
“Someone is attacking us tonight. Chen’s afraid you’ll get hurt, so he locked you inside this room. I have to protect you.”
“You think I’m someone who has to be protected?”
No shit. The only one who needs protection in this entire house is you.
But Cheryl felt that if she told the truth, Yura would explode.
“Let’s just stay here. We can’t help anyway.”
“But I wanna see the show.”
Oh my god, it’s raining bullets out there. Even I’m too scared to go.
Cheryl was speechless. “Yura, listen to me, alright? Don’t give Chen more trouble.”
“You think I’m trouble?”
“Uh... No, no... That’s not what I mean.”
“Then let’s go out together.”
Cheryl pointed at the door. “Princess is the guard.”
“I have a solution.” Yura opened the door. “Princess.”
Princess pushed herself up and looked at Yura. Roar, roar.
“I have delicious food.” Yura opened her hand. There was a piece of jerky in her hand.
Princess looked at her with disdain, as if saying, you think I’m that easy to trick?
“She’s not getting tricked.”
“Annoying brother, how come even a bear is so smart?”
Yura immediately pulled open the window. Princess rushed over and started roaring at Yura.
Yura moved around the window and jumped down to the door. Then Cheryl closed the door.
Then Princess opened the door by herself.
What a joke. Could a door be too hard for her?
Wasn’t that looking down on her?
Princess strolled out of the bedroom. By now, Yura and Cheryl were already at the stairwell.
Right then, they were met by the second obstacle—Obitos.
Obitos opened his mouth wide, revealing its bloody maw.
Cheryl took two steps back in fright. In Chen Zhao’s house, she was the most unwilling to face Obitos.
But Yura wasn’t afraid at all. She grabbed the railing, sat on it, and started sliding down.
Whoosh—
It looked cool to slide down, but there were no brakes. With Yura’s fitness, she couldn’t sit firmly either.
“Oh no.” Cheryl wanted to chase after her, but it was already too late.
Yura slid down too quickly. She also realized that she’d made a dumb choice.
Just then, a pair of large hands caught Yura.
“Brother...” Yura looked at Chen Zhao, who was carrying her bridal style.
“You know, your image isn’t likeable at all. Little girls should be more obedient. Just look at how obedient Cheryl is.” Chen Zhao glanced at Yura. “Don’t force me to hang you from the tree for a night.”
Cheryl turned bright red at Chen Zhao’s praise. “Can’t you praise me another way?”
