Chapter 374: On The Road
After messing around for an hour, Fali put the late breakfast before Faur.
Faur realized that she’d been tricked into being the driver. Right now, Chen Zhao and Fali were leaning against each other, enjoying the scenery along the way.
Faur could only sit behind the wheel. The only thing that comforted her was that a cute little kitty was accompanying her.
Meow, meow, meow.
Samuel stood on the dashboard and monologued to Faur, “Human, are you willing to become my follower?”
“I just want to kill that annoying couple.”
“Become my follower and all your wishes will come true.”
“You’re so much better. Only you’re willing to accompany me. Do you want a bacon sandwich?”
“Very good. I am satisfied with your offering. When I rule the world, you will become my right-hand woman.”
Just then, a police car in front of them gestured at the RV to stop. Faur could only park the car behind the police car. The officer motioned for her to open the door.
These highways mostly had state police. They would stop suspicious cars to search. Faur didn’t know what she’d done to get the officer’s attention, but she still obediently opened the door.
“Hello, how may I help you?” Faur asked
“This is your car?” the police asked.
“No, it’s my sister and her boyfriend’s.” Faur pointed up.
To be honest, it was indeed a bit dramatic to drive a car like this on the road.
“I need to go up and check,” the officer said.
“Be my guest.”
Not even a few steps later, a bear head suddenly appeared.
“Ah!” The officer fell to the ground, frantically trying to pull his gun out of his belt.
“Officer, that is a pet. We have a pet license.”
The officer was still terrified. “You... Are you sure...sure this monster won’t eat people?”
Princess walked over to the officer. She grabbed an apple from the table and took two bites. She seemed to sense that the officer was afraid, so she took another apple and offered it to the officer.
Roar—roar, roar—
“What is it doing?”
“It’s asking if you want to eat it.”
Just then, Chen Zhao and Fali came down from the balcony. “Faur, what happened?”
“This officer got scared by Princess,” Faur said.
“No, I was just suddenly...” The police glanced at Princess. “It’s so big.”
“Officer, please sit.” Chen Zhao sat on the sofa to the side.
“Where are you all from?”
“L.A.”
“Where are you going?”
“Sacramento.”
“Why are you going to Sacramento?”
“It’s our dad’s birthday,” Fali answered. “We’re going to celebrate his birthday.”
“Can you all show me your IDs?”
The three all took out their licenses. In America, people could usually use their driver’s license as their IDs. The officer checked their licenses and returned them after confirming there were no problems.
“The speed limit is 60 to 80 kilometers per hour here,” the officer said. “You best not be lower than that. I won’t give you a ticket this time, but please be careful about your speed. Also, there’s been four armed car robberies in half a month on this road. You guys should careful.”
“Thank you for your warning. We’ll be careful.” When the officer went down the steps, he stopped and said, “Oh, can I have a picture with it...Princess?”
“Of course.”
After getting a picture, the officer left the car, satisfied. But the officer realized the RV didn’t start driving. The three were instead arguing in the car.
The officer tapped the window. “Are you all okay?”
“Go drive,” Chen Zhao said. “Don’t block the road with the car.”
“This is your car,” Faur said angrily. “Why should I drive? Why should I be your chauffeur?”
“Don’t be so petty. Just drive a bit more. I’ll take your place later.”
“You two have been f*cking like rabbits the entire morning!” Faur roared. “I’ve had enough.”
The officer outside looked at Faur with sympathy. This was honestly too much.
“Okay, I promise we’ll be quieter next time.”
Hearing this, more murderous intent flared in Faur’s eyes.
“Don’t park here for too long,” the officer reminded. “Otherwise, I’ll write a ticket.”
Faur wouldn’t compromise at all, so Chen Zhao and Fali’s plan was ruined. In the end, Chen Zhao had to drive. Being a road trip driver truly wasn’t fun.
Thankfully, Fali sat beside him, chatting with Chen Zhao.
On the other hand, Faur put on sunglasses, rubbed in sunblock, and enjoyed the afternoon sunlight under the parasol at the top of the car.
Fali pointed at the GPS. “There should be a rest station up ahead. We can go there for a break.”
...
“Willis, where are you right now?”
“I’m on Highway 5, around 120 kilometers from Trolli County.”
“We’ve already checked the people injured from the four crimes. We’ve discovered that the criminals used a signal-disturbance tool, affecting the direction that the drivers traveled in. Those unfamiliar with the route may drive into remote areas. The criminals also set up obstacles along the way. When the driver came out to check, they would attack the driver and the others on the car.”
“There are hundreds of exits on Highway 5. How am I supposed to prevent it?”
“Everyone along the route, watch out. Just patrol your area. If you discover any disturbances with the signal, it may be the criminals.”
“Okay, got it.”
Willis continued driving, patrolling on the highway. Just then, Willis saw the RV stopping at the rest stop up ahead.
Thinking back to how scared he’d been of the bear, Willis suddenly found it funny. He also parked the car at the rest stop. When he entered the restaurant, he saw the three sitting there.
“Hi,” Willis greeted first.
“Hello, sir,” Chen Zhao answered. “Want to sit down?”
Willis sat beside the trio. “You didn’t bring Princess in?”
“This store doesn’t allow Princess, so I left her in the car.”
“The law states that you can’t lock pets in a sealed place,” Willis reminded.
“The car has an automatic oxygen system. If it senses that the oxygen level is low, it’ll activate automatically. Plus, we only plan on sitting here for 20 minutes.”
Willis only mentioned it. He didn’t plan on making a big deal over it. He knew how amazing the RV was.
