For the second time, I was thrown backward, and this time my back hit the wall of a building.
Despite my increasing pain, and I could feel the blood flowing from my nose, I laughed.
"Hey, old man," I called out to the man whose face was disfigured by the disgusting wounds. "Imagine if you could beat me. Would you get any rewards for your services? Will you taste the glory?"
"Such things are of no importance to us Shadow members." He walks to me against the backdrop of burning buildings. "Our goal is only for the security and prosperity of this country."
"You guys are fighting hard but can't enjoy life. Isn't that sad?" I'm having a hard time standing up. I could call for help, but I must show my subordinates that their leader can fight. "I appreciate every role of my subordinates. They will get the glory, and if they die, I make sure that their names will not be forgotten."
"There's no glory for the evil deeds you did."
"You talk that you are fighting for security and prosperity." I glared at the old man. "But why didn't you guys even do anything for Marystar? You know that crime is rampant there, right?"
He stopped just a few feet from me. I can't guess the expression on his face.
"That's right." I want to laugh at the irony of this organization. "You guys didn't do it because you didn't get the orders, right? So, in reality, you guys are just government dogs. The idealism you hold is empty."
"You'll never understand..."
"Yeah, I don't understand!" I feel irritated. "Why do you guys persist in this pathetic life!? You fight for others but don't get good rewards! If you die, you will be forgotten!"
The screams of children echoed from a distance. The old man came forward and gave me a combination fist. Despite excruciating pain throughout my body, I blocked and avoided all of them.
"Argh!" I kicked his stomach, pushing him back.
And he spat at me again. I screamed as the attack hit my shoulder, causing smoke and deep wounds.
Shit. I haven't seen the opening so far.
Suddenly, a melodious humming appeared from a distance as well, and the children's screams disappeared in an instant.
Seeing a pause from the old man, I flew up and caught his body, then brought him up. We wrestled in the air, and I managed to switch positions to choke her neck from behind. He couldn't spit on me as he wanted anymore.
And he must not have guessed that I could still fly. This is the opportunity I've been waiting for. Maybe he could still have anticipated this if he hadn't let his guard down.
This man is not stupid.
"Why were you so careless earlier, old man?" I laughed in his ear as I continued to carry him up. "You wonder why they can immediately shut up with a song from one of my subordinates? You usually use violence to silence them, right?"
"You can't win, demon." The old man hissed. "Even if this shadow organization dies, someone will stop you. In any history, evil can't win."
"You really pissed me off." I snorted. "Well, soon, I won't be seeing you again. So, goodbye. I will take good care of your children."
I turned his body position, making his head face down. Then, I dived fast toward the ground.
This old man didn't fight back at all. He didn't even scream in terror.
Somehow, that irritated me even more.
We continued to dive until the man's head landed hard on the ground, causing a large crack. Miraculously, his head was still intact and not crushed.
I looked at his motionless body, then several shapeshifters and succubus came up to me.
"Take care of this corpse," I muttered. "Perhaps he would make a good research subject."
I then faced the children at a distance. Like before, they looked scared to see me.
"There's no need to be afraid, children." I forced a smile despite my face feeling stiff from the pain. "We are here to free you. No one else will scold and beat you. You are also free to choose what you want to be, and you don't have to live a miserable life like this."
They didn't respond. Maybe they still don't understand my words.
I will give them a better life. Perhaps they will have to experience it for themselves to understand.
Xenora came up to me, carrying a sleeping baby in her arms. "You're seriously injured, Your Majesty."
I touched the baby's cheek with the back of my index finger. He still sleeps and doesn't respond to me. "Don't worry, it's nothing."
Of course, the pain was unbearable, but as a leader, I had to be tough in front of my subordinates.
"Please, have a seat, my lord." A medical shapeshifter approached me, but I signaled her to leave.
I turned to face my troops, who were gathered nearby. Then, I asked Xenora. "How are we doing?"
Xenora sighed. "Some of us are injured, but none are life-threatening, my lord. We defeated almost all members of the shadow organization and captured some of them."
I glanced at some of the shadow members kneeling on the ground and had their hands tied behind their backs. They showed no fear or disdain for me. Perhaps they were still waiting for an opportunity to escape or attack me.
I feel like throwing up watching them.
"Collect items that might be of use to us! Records, weapons, or anything of value!" I gave orders to my subordinates, then clenched my fists upwards. "With this, I declare that operation Pentia is a success!"
They were cheering, and I could see Nymira sobbing. She had to be comforted by her fellow succubi.
"You must be treated immediately, Your Majesty." Xenora sounded even more worried. "Your wounds are really bad."
The medical shapeshifter came at me again, but I ordered her. "You better check on those kids. Some of them should get help right away. And please be gentle to them."
Xenora took a deep breath, then asked another question. "What are you going to do with those kids?"
Looks like she has given up on persuading me.
"I already have plans for them." I smiled and gently stroked her hair.
