[Vorn's POV]
I was standing in one of the buildings in the royal capital of Durcia.
It was a sunny day, and the snow had been cleared from the main road. However, people were reluctant to go out because the road was very slippery. I only found a few patrolmen or those who had to work outside.
After gradually incorporating my subordinates into this city, I could finally execute my plan.
Satisfied with surveying the streets, I lifted my face, looking at the secret research facility from a distance.
Compared to other buildings, mostly garment factories or blacksmiths, that building stands out with its towering height.
However, no one would think that it was a research center. The people here only know that place as an office that regulates the goods produced in this area.
Of course, that's a lie. Samples of clothes, other textile products, or metal equipment registered there will definitely pass the selection.
They do not care what the quality of the commodities produced.
"Everything is ready, my lord." Xenora, having just climbed into this building, walked over to me. "We can start anytime."
I called Emily and asked. "How is it there?"
"I've made sure the shapeshifters are in their spots." The supreme undead explained. "They're ready to party."
"Good." I ended the call, then spoke to a succubus at a point relatively far away.
"Mireon, do it." I gave the order.
"Very well, my lord."
In just a split second, a succubus flew over from a distance. We exchanged glances when she passed me.
Then, she dropped a black ball-shaped bomb, triggering a deafening explosion.
Several shapeshifters, standing guard around the explosion's epicenter, spawned portals for the pocket dimension. Hundreds of undead emerged from those things, immediately destroyed anything they encountered, and chased after humans.
As people came out of the buildings and ran away, some headed in the opposite direction. They carried swords, bows, or magic staffs. Those people are undercover guards with regular clothes.
They rushed toward the chaos instead of saving themselves.
And they passed through the secret research area. Of course they did that. The explosion and appearance of the undead happened quite a distance away.
Yes, the facility is still safe. We use chaos as a distraction.
"Now is our time." I wore the metal helmet, which is standard for city guard soldiers. Xenora also did the same.
We both wore maroon city guard uniforms too, complete with armor plates on our chests. We jumped into the street, striding quickly to the facility. It didn't take long for us to meet a group of scientists and workers from that place. They were being escorted by soldiers wearing uniforms like ours.
It is a procedure established by the state. The scientists would only follow soldiers in uniform to ensure they were following the right people.
The risk was high if they followed plainclothes soldiers. They might go with the wrong person.
However, there was one thing they had yet to anticipate; when the uniformed soldiers were replaced by shapeshifters. Yes, those scientists and workers are being led by my subordinates.
"Follow me!" I made a hand signal to the group.
"Don't panic. We will protect you!" Xenora added. "Just calm down!"
I found that some group members looked worried, but some were relaxed as if nothing had happened.
They numbered over forty in total, and most were intelligent humans. That's why I devised this plan and directly oversaw it.
With a plan like this, the risk of them being injured or dead could be minimized. And as the strongest of them all, I will guard those people to their destination.
So I don't need to raid the facility, even though I know its ins and outs from John.
"T-this isn't the path written in the guidebook! We shouldn't have come this way if there was chaos!" A Magic Scientist with messy hair and glasses looked around after I led the group into a corner.
"There's been a change of plans, sir," I explained in a serious tone. "This is because someone leaked our evacuation route. Therefore, we will go to a new safe place."
"As I said before, calm your asses down, y'all," Xenora added with an expression that was no less firm than mine. "Our priority is to save you all."
With our intimidating way of talking and gestures, they didn't dare ask any further questions.
Several minutes passed, and we encountered no obstructions, though explosions were heard again in the distance. Indeed, I wanted to create as much chaos as possible so that the city's attention would be focused on one point.
However, I feel uncomfortable. It's all too smooth. It could be a sign that something awful was going to happen.
And suddenly, I heard the faint sound of wings flapping from a distance. I then stopped to make sure.
Xenora raised her hand as a signal for the group to stop too.
"What's wrong?" She asked while looking at my face.
I stared back at her. "Something is coming."
I'm sure it wasn't the sound of the wings from one of my succubi. The flaps are too big. And I also got the feeling it wasn't from one of the undead wyverns we brought along.
Those dragon-like creatures shouldn't be coming here at this time.
"Yeah, I finally heard that too." Xenora hissed.
Right after those words, I saw a wyvern coming. However, that creature's body didn't decompose like the undead.
I, Xenora, and my subordinates immediately got ready as the Wyvern flew low, sending winds flying at us. A person in white armor jumped from that creature while holding a pink-haired woman in her arms.
"We are so damn lucky!!!" The woman jumped down as soon as the armored figure landed on the marble pavement. "We just wanted to check what happened in that place, but we hit the jackpot instead!"
My eyes lingered on the armored figure's helmet, which had a dragon's head motif. And her armor follows the curves of her body, showing the femininity behind the firm scale carvings.
"It's the prophet." One of the scientists behind me gasped. "I've seen her armor in a painting."
