I used the teleportation feature to return. So, my body is not too tormented by the trip.
It's just that the sight of that country's destruction continues to haunt me. At that time I didn't immediately teleport because I felt I couldn't run.
As the one who is responsible, I have to watch the disaster I created. And right now, I can only keep moving forward. I still have a lot to do.
I put the fairy's corpse onto Faye's house bed, and Ayre covered her with a blanket. Even though more than a week has passed, she still looks the same as before, not rotting at all.
The only difference is that she is no longer breathing.
"You look exhausted, your majesty," Ayre said to me, who was sitting on the chair. "It seems you need a long rest."
"But I have to…." I gasped and took a deep breath. I had been unable to sleep for the past few days in my original world. The effect carried over to this realm. "Yeah, you're right, Ayre. I need some rest. How about you? Have you had enough rest?"
"Thanks for asking." Ayre examined my face. "Darren always makes sure that I get enough sleep. And today I have permission to take a day off. But don't worry, I have started learning to forge Mythril, even though I have to admit it is challenging and takes a long time."
"Even for a shapeshifter like you?"
She nodded, lightly pressing various parts of my body, forcing me to twitch from the pain. "Take off your clothes, your majesty."
"Really?" I chuckled. "At a time like this, you want to do that?"
She helped me undress, still with her signature blank expression. "I didn't mean it that way, but if you want to do it, I don't mind."
Well, I'm just kidding. Looks like she will be disappointed with my answer.
As I was about to open my mouth, I heard footsteps approaching the room.
"It's Faye," Ayre muttered while observing the claw wounds on my body. "I memorized her footsteps."
The witch had just returned from another city. She seeks information about giganpoppy from her friends.
"You're not usually at my house, Ayre. Aren't you training with Darren…." Faye, who had just entered the room, immediately choked. Her gaze went straight to the fairy's corpse on the bed. "What's that?"
She approached that thing, and I let it. As soon as that witch opened the blanket, she froze. Her breath began to falter. That witch looked at the transparent wings of that higher being.
Then, she staggered backward and fell to her knees. "Y-you managed to defeat her?"
"You ask in a tone like I'm bound to lose to the fairy." Feeling something was wrong, I got up from the chair and approached that woman. "Are you deliberately sending me to the fairy, so I'll lose?"
She looked at me and shook her head frantically. "No, no, no! I told you about that fairy…."
Before she finished speaking, I grabbed her by the collar, lifted her up, and pressed her against the wall.
"I've destroyed a country and made its citizens miserable," I grunted at her, holding back the anger that bubbled up in my head. "Do you actually know any other high-creatures? The kinds that won't have a big impact if I defeat them?"
The witch started to sob. "I swear. I only know about the fairy."
Ayre took a small book out of that woman's pocket.
"That's nothing!" Faye tried to grab the book, but Ayre took a step back.
"This is so shocking, Faye." The shapeshifter general leafed through the book. "Why does this book contain notes on methods of killing demons?"
I brought my face closer to Faye's. "So, you weren't looking for information about the giganpoppy, were you? You wanted us to die from the start? So, you were looking for ways to kill us. You must also have deliberately fed me to the fairy."
"I did send you to her so that you…." Faye gasped. "But, I really swear. I didn't know about any high creature other than the fairy in Scyonia…. I also feel guilty now after hearing that that country was destroyed."
Even though the anger inside me was bubbling up, I let go of my grip, forcing Faye to fall to her knees a second time.
"I just fucked up the lives of thousands of elves." I hissed coldly. "I could easily fucked up the life of one person. So, listen to me carefully. If you plan to finish us off again, you will regret it for the rest of your life."
I put my mouth close to her ear, then whispered. "I'll do something you wouldn't even imagine, and then you'll beg to be killed."
Faye's body shook even more.
I sat down on the chair again. "I hope you know about that giganpoppy plant. I can't stand it if I wait any longer for you to find the information."
Faye took a deep breath, then responded in a hoarse voice. "The thing is, people aren't sure if the plant really exists. We don't even know whether that thing is a plant or not. And no one knows who named it giganpoppy."
"However, a witch named Zhoal used it to teleport us to this era," Ayre replied.
"But that's how it is. No one can prove its existence."
I massaged my forehead, trying to suppress my frustration. "Please, don't play the game with me. You don't want me to completely lose my temper even more."
"There are only a few claims about the plant's effects." Faye hastily added. "One of the most famous stories is about a king who claims to have had a different life before, even though his name has been in the royal family tree since he was born."
I raised an eyebrow, looking back at the witch. "What do you mean?"
"The king confessed that he was originally an ordinary person. Then, one day he accidentally came across a place that made him go on a strange journey." Faye continued. "On that journey, he met a snake with a pig's head, his legs became fifteen, saw the sky filled with thrones, and so on."
Perhaps the name 'Poppy' in the plant refers to the hallucinogenic effects it causes. Ordinary poppy plants can be used as drugs, but as far as I know, they don't cause hallucinations. It's just a pain reliever and relaxes the mind.
The witch paused for breath. "The point is, the journey was filled with absurd things that gradually shaped into his new reality: he's a king."
"I see. So, that's what bend the reality means." I walked over to Faye, who was still on the floor. "Say it. How do we prevent our reality from changing, then extract that thing?"
