129 Fighting The Variant (1)

‘Is this an oh shit moment...?’

Blake had already finished drawing his runes by the time he finished thinking about it.

The runes flashed and disappeared before nether started gathering beneath the man-sized fireball that had its body grown slightly bigger and released more heat that Blake could feel it even from tens of meters away,

When Blake saw the man-sized fireball was only standing in place despite his spell was about to manifest, Blake thought that his spell would successfully hold onto the man-sized fireball if it had a physical body in the first place.

‘It does have a physical body!’ Blake exclaimed in his mind when he saw the first darkness tendril manifest and seemed to have latched itself onto something inside the man-sized fireball.

With that, Blake was confident that it would only be a matter of time before he defeated the variant type demon and finally tasted a variant demon’s soul for the first time.

However, before Blake was even able to think more or celebrate that his spell had hit its mark, Blake’s excitement was all erased by pure surprise and wary when he saw what happened next after more darkness tendrils came out of the ground beneath the variant type demon.

After realizing something had latched onto a part of its body, and more seemed to have come from the gathering source of nether that it felt, the variant type demon didn’t waste any time and started increasing the heat that its body produced even more.

It had increased so much that even Blake could now feel a slight stinging pain on his skin despite the distance between the two of them was still tens of meters apart.

.....

And just from that fact, of course, the darkness tendrils that had made direct contact with the variant type demon would get a fate much worse than just a stinging heat.

Rather, the heat was so intense that the darkness tendrils, whether the ones that had come out of the ground or the ones that just barely came into existence, had all been evaporated by the immense heat that the variant type demon released.

Seeing this, Blake quickly activated the bloodline power that he got from Robus and equipped the dark earth armor to protect his being from becoming a charred humanoid demon.

‘This is indeed an oh shit moment...’ Blake thought to himself while the blackish rocks appeared and covered his whole body.

Knowing that his darkness tendril wouldn’t be able to survive making direct contact with the variant type demon, Blake decided to change his strategy and turn to the other element that he got in his arsenal.

And be it he was fortunate enough to be blessed by the demon of luck if it even exists, the other element that he could use was an element that was significantly more resistant towards fire.

Moving his two hands, Blake started drawing two sets of runes, runes belonging to the earth elements and aimed them straight towards the variant type demon.

However, Blake didn’t seem to be the only one who decided to start changing his approach in the fight.

The variant type demon had also started making its own move after being passive for so long.

With a considerable explosion on its back, the variant type demon’s body was pushed forward with great momentum, closing in on Blake with a speed that was even faster than a mid-level boar’s charge.

Seeing the sudden move of the variant type demon, Blake quickly changed the direction of the spells that he was currently drawing from trying to hit the variant type demon to none other than himself.

With his left hand along with the completed set of runes that he held from activating being smashed onto the ground, the spell then manifested themselves below him, while the other set of runes that was held in his right hand, was aimed in front of him, to the place where the flying variant type demon would soon cross.

The spell that he drew with his left hand manifested, and Blake took a large step backward.

The sandy ground beneath him shook for a split second before solid earth came out of the ground beneath his feet, creating a circular earth wall that trapped anything inside it.

And with the emergence of the circular earth wall, Blake pushed himself off the ground and flew upward, completely dodging the man-sized fireball from crashing into him.

While his other spell that had been aimed towards the flying variant type demon soon also manifested itself, creating an earth spike that shot upward, right in front of the variant type demon.

Blake thought that with the speed that it was currently flying at, the variant type demon would just crash onto the earth spike and break it with its body.

However, instead of doing that, from the front of the man-sized fireball, several smaller, normal-sized fireballs were shot forward toward the earth spike and destroyed it before the man-sized fireball passed through it.

“It wasn’t using any runes?” Blake muttered out loud when he saw the fireballs just appear out of the variant type demon without any nether gathering or runes being drawn.

The variant type demon then saw the huge circular earth wall in front of it then the humanoid demon that was currently gliding in the air.

Realizing that its initial target had changed position, the variant type demon released another explosion to its front, a smaller one this time, and used the opposite momentum to stop its forward momentum, while simultaneously destroying the circular earth wall with the explosion.

‘Even ordinary earth was not enough, eh?’ Blake thought in the air before his hand started moving and drawing more runes.

He was drawing more earth elemental runes. However, this time, Blake added more runes to the original set of runes, and these runes were none other than the runes that belonged to the darkness element.

And with that, the ground around the man-sized fireball that had entirely stopped moving after destroying the circular earth wall shook as another new circular earth wall appeared, ready to trap the man-sized fireball in the middle of it.

But instead of an ordinary circular earth wall that could be easily destroyed by a small explosion, this circular earth wall didn’t have the same brown color that the original earth wall had.

Instead, it was blackish-brown in color, signaling that the earth was saturated with the darkness element, which gave the earth wall more toughness and also the ability to absorb force being thrown at it, including fire elemental attacks.
