Chapter 69 Car Accident

Ryan Hospital, VIP ward’s reception room.

Qu Zhen held a glass of water with a haggard face. She slowly retracted her gaze from the window and picked up the contract that Shang Yan had placed in front of her with a sad expression.

The inpatient department always had countless patients and family members who were rushing through the procedures.

Li pushed Shang Yan’s wheelchair into the elevator. For some reason, Qu Qi ran out of the ward and followed closely beside them. She smiled and said, “Brother-in-law, let me send you off.”

Qu Xiao took a taxi to the hospital parking lot. When she saw the familiar Mercedes-Benz car, her heart sank.

Shang Yan and Li appeared in her line of sight. Qu Xiao subconsciously avoided them.

i to hide behind the pillar, but she accidentally met Qu Qi’s gaze. Qu Qi crossed her arms and raised her chin arrogantly and mockingly. Her eyes were full of provocation and a declaration of war.

Qu Xiao dialed Shang Yan’s number.

Shang Yan’s expression instantly softened when he heard the ringtone. He raised his hand to signal for Li to stop. His eyes were filled with emotions as he picked up the call.

“Where are you?”

Qu Xiao asked directly. Her tone was cold and stiff, and there was even a sense of pressure from questioning

Shang Yan frowned slightly and paused for a moment, hesitating whether he should tell her or not.

Qu Xiao seemed to have seen through his thoughts at this moment. She felt her whole body turn cold as she clenched her teeth, reminding him word by word, “Shang Yan, you should know very well that I hate lies the most. No matter what, I hope that I won’t hear lies from you!”

Shang Yan seemed to have noticed something strange as he looked up. He looked around but did not see Qu Xiao.

“I’m at the hospital.”

Qu Xiao’s throat was dry as she continued to ask, “Why? Are you not feeling well?”

Under the noisy background, Shang Yan answered honestly, “Qu Zhen is at the hospital. I came here to look for her.”

Qu Xiao did not know whether she should laugh at herself or be happy at this moment.

Shang Yan did not lie to her, but on the other hand, it also proved that Qu Zhen was special to Shang Yan. She was someone who could make him endure the fatigue of a long flight of more than ten hours just to come and see her.

“I can’t imagine how serious her condition must be to be able to make you rush directly to the hospital.”

Qu Xiao hung up the phone with a thud. She walked out from the back of the hospital’s pillar and slowly walked to a spot half a meter away from Shang Yan. “I specially ordered a bouquet and went to the airport to surprise you…”

“I thought I would get a big hug from you, but what did I get?”

“Do you know how flustered I was? I was so scared that I thought you had an accident and tried to call any number that could contact you, but you, Li, no one answered my call!”

After Qu Xiao said that, Li realized that there were dozens of missed calls on his muted phone. He looked apologetic and wanted to explain.

“Shang Yan, if Qu Zhen is so important to you, you can just tell me.”

“I have never thought of being a member of the Shang family forever!”

Qu Xiao turned around and walked across the road with a disappointed expression. Shang Yan saw her and hurriedly pushed his wheelchair to chase after her. His eyes narrowed as he explained, “Things are not what you think. Xiao! Listen to me…”

Woosh!

A child who had gotten separated from his parents suddenly ran out from the middle of the road. A car driver who was driving at a high speed suddenly turned the steering wheel to avoid him. The car immediately lost control and rushed straight towards Qu Xiao.

Shang Yan shouted Qu Xiao’s name. He pushed his wheelchair forward with all his might and pulled Qu Xiao’s elbow to his side.

Bang!

The car crashed into the fence. The compressed and deformed front of the car emitted waves of thick smoke.

Qu Xiao felt a warmth in her palm. She looked down and saw that her hand was covered in blood.

She could not care less about the pain from the scratch on her hand and got up. She stumbled and ran to Shang Yan’s side.

Li was so scared that his face turned ashen. He quickly ran back to the hospital to find doctors and nurses to help.

“Don’t scare me! Shang Yan, open your eyes and look at me!”

Qu Xiao looked at the pool of blood on the ground with tears in her eyes. Helplessness and panic surged in her heart.

She held Shang Yan in her arms. She patted his cheek gently and said in a hurried and uneasy voice, “You’re not allowed to sleep! Who told you to risk your life to save me? I could have avoided it. Who asked you to be a hero!”

Cough cough! Shang Yan choked on two mouthfuls of blood. He opened his eyes weakly and used his hand to caress Qu Xiao’s face.

“I’m fine.”

Shang Yan felt an intense pain in his

did not show it. He curled his thin lips to appease Qu Xiao. “Now, are you willing to listen to me… Talk?”
