Guan Xuemin’s Opponent
Due to the influences and seriousness of this case, after reporting it to the health authorities, they had quickly gathered the renowned doctors in the medical world and formed a group of experts for this case. All of them were on their way to the Songshan’s second hospital.
Guan Xuemin was one of the people in charge of this group of experts. In normal circumstances, Xuemin’d never accept to visit the patients, but things were different this time. It was a big case, an unknown situation, no less. Naturally, the respected and experienced Guan Xuemin was invited!
Soon, the group of experts entered the emergency room and started analyzing the conditions.
"I think that this is a new unknown virus!" one of the experts said. He was the chairman of the Songshan’s medical association, Zhang Weikang. "We have to report this to the international health organization. We need to get the experts from the other countries to do research here!"
"Doctor Zhang, isn’t it a little too early to conclude that this is the cause of an unknown virus?" Xuemin, on the other hand, had a different opinion, "According to the school staffs, the occurrence of the illness happened to the students at the same time, and there are only a few infected patients compared to the school. If this is the cause of an unknown infectious virus, don’t you think that the timing was too perfect? Could it be that the virus had a discussion and agreed to attack at the same time?"
Xuemin’s word was incisive, but he was able to point out the most important key in this case. This was not the cause of an unknown infectious virus! However, Xuemin ended his analysis with a joke making an uproar in the room....
Zhang Weikang’s face changed slightly. He was never on good terms with Xuemin, to begin with. Although he was the chairman of the Songshan’s medical association, people in the medical world knew that he was no match to Xuemin. If they were only measured on medical skills, Guan Xuemin would win immediately!
"If that’s the case, may I ask for your brilliant opinion, Miracle Doctor Guan?" Zhang Weikang smiled coldly, emphasizing the word "Miracle Doctor" on purpose. It might seem like nothing was going in the exchange because Xuemin’s company was Miracle Doctor Guan Medicine Company. However, mentioning it now was extremely sarcastic.
Although Xuemin could hear the sarcasm in Weikang’s tone, he couldn’t care less! He was an educated person. Fame and glory weren’t important to him. This was also one of the reasons why he rejected the offer to be part of the Songshan’s medical association. Otherwise, Zhang Weikang could have never been the chairman of the Songshan’s medical association.
"In my experience, I think that the possibility of poisoning is slightly higher!" Xuemin continued, "The illness showed up after they had their lunch. Besides, the time for the occurrence of illness was close too. As for the symptoms, it’s very similar to poisoning as well....."
"Ha!" Weikang uttered a cold breath, interrupting Xuemin. "Miracle Doctor Guan, your analysis is indeed explained but too bad. Even though you are a miracle doctor, you should at least read the case report before voicing your opinion, shouldn’t you?! Or else, you are not only wasting our time, but you are also wasting the patients’ time to be rescued as well! It’s written very clearly in the case report, there were no toxic components in their stomach. May I ask how is this a food poisoning case?"
"There is nothing strange about it. The toxic components were fully absorbed by the body." Xuemin wasn’t annoyed in the slightest. Learning takes a lot of skepticism. He was glad that someone came and doubted him.
"Absorbed? You mean, the patients only absorbed the toxic components and left the food in their stomach unabsorbed?" Weikang burst into laughter, "According to your logic, these people must have very powerful stomach function, don’t you think so? They were able to differentiate what is toxic and what isn’t? They could even pick up the toxic components to be absorbed specifically?"
Zhang Weikang’s words made people laugh in the group, but these experts weren’t siding any of them. They wouldn’t just casually join into an immortal fight like this.
"In some medical ancient scrolls, I’ve seen something like this existed!" Xuemin didn’t take the sarcasm seriously as he explained, "There were examples of people using Chinese herbs, mixing it with insect poison to produce a certain type of poison that could allow the toxin to be absorbed speedily!"
"Medical ancient scrolls? Shall we just ignore the fact that these medical ancient scrolls might be fake, and even if it was real, there was no guarantee that the contents written in it are reliable? There’s no way we could figure it out, could we?" Weikang didn’t really buy what Xuemin said. "Please do not forget that the hospital has reported this to the police and the police have taken actions against the canteen. Moreover, when they ran a test on the food, there were no toxic components in it! Besides, there were a lot of students in the canteen, how do you explain the numbers?"
"First, I couldn’t deduce how they poison it. This is the job of the police. I was just giving out my personal opinion." Xuemin said.
"Whatever. I personally still think that we should report this to the international health organization. This case is out of our reach! If you still insist that this is food poisoning, please bear the responsibility when things turn bad!" Weikang wouldn’t risk his reputation and future just for these mere students. He didn’t have to take any actions anyway. Directly reporting this to the international health organization was the easiest way. Professionals would be sent over to take over the case, and even if students died from the cause, it had zero connection to do with him.
Xuemin sighed. Although he had read this in the medical ancient scrolls, he couldn’t find any solutions to it. It was categorized as one of the poisons in the thousand, under the same section as venomous insect’s poison. The introduction was unclear and the information was little.
"Let’s visit the patients first before deciding." Xuemin sighed again. Nevertheless, since he had arrived, he couldn’t just do nothing, could he?
"If you wish to visit them, go alone. This is an infectious disease! Without any safety precautions, I advice not to get near them!" Naturally, Weikang wouldn’t want himself to be infected. He was a coward, after all. He had a bright future ahead of him, and he really didn’t have to risk his life for these students, "Of course, whoever wishes to go in, please do!"
Within the experts, there were still many that have a sense of responsibility as a doctor. After hearing what Weikang said, they were totally stunned! Why would a coward choose to become a doctor? Doctors were supposed to save lives, fighting at the edge of life all the time!
In every field, there was always a black sheep in every flock. They had the same thought as Weikang, behaving cowardly at the back.
"Professor Guan, we will follow you!" many experts stood up.
"It’s not needed, I’m fine alone. Actually, the reports are written pretty clearly. You guys can know the results without examining the patients." Xuemin didn’t want them to get involved. After all, food poisoning was just one of the guesses. What Weikang said was not unreasonable. There was no way Xuemin would allow them to risk their lives with him, "I’ll just check on their conditions the traditional Chinese medical way!"
