Let’s Break Up

“Jiaojiao, postpone the wedding. I have an urgent matter to attend to.”

The wedding was going to be held soon, and Lu Zhuo was about to postpone the wedding after a phone call. Xu Jiaojiao could not believe it. She looked at Lu Zhuo and said, “Brother Lu Zhuo, look outside. The guests are all waiting. Why are you leaving at this time? If there’s anything, can’t we take care of it after the wedding?”

Lu Zhuo glanced at the wedding banquet hall with a hint of urgency in his dark eyes. “Jiaojiao, please understand. I really have something very important to do now. It doesn’t matter if we hold the wedding today or tomorrow. I’ll leave now.”

Leave? If he left like this, what would happen to the wedding? What would happen to her? Xu Jiaojiao grabbed the hem of Lu Zhuo’s clothes, her eyes red. “What’s the reason? At least give me a reason.”

Lu Zhuo looked troubled. After a while, he said softly, “Jiaojiao, something happened to Bai Mengyao.”

Bai Mengyao…

Hearing this name, Xu Jiaojiao’s face suddenly turned pale, and her grip on Lu Zhuo’s clothes lost its strength.

Bai Mengyao was Lu Zhuo’s girlfriend when they were in university. The two of them had a very deep relationship. It was said that in order to be with Bai Mengyao, Lu Zhuo even asked his parents to cancel their engagement with the Xu family, angering them so much that they wound up in the hospital. Later on, for some reason, the two of them suddenly broke up. Bai Mengyao went overseas while Lu Zhuo stayed in Luo City.

Xu Jiaojiao thought that Lu Zhuo and Bai Mengyao were over, but she never thought that she would hear Bai Mengyao’s name on their wedding day. Lu Zhuo even wanted to ruin the wedding between Lu and Xu families for her.

Lu Zhuo opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he turned around and left. He walked anxiously to the elevator without looking back.

Xu Jiaojiao’s eyes instantly turned red, but she stubbornly refused to let her tears fall. It turned out that Lu Zhuo had never forgotten about Bai Mengyao, so why did he agree to marry her? Was she the only one looking forward to this wedding…?

“Brother Lu Zhuo,” Xu Jiaojiao suddenly called out when the elevator was about to arrive. Her voice was hoarse as she said, “The wedding is about to begin, so the ceremony won’t take too long. You can wait until the wedding is over before…”

“Xu Jiaojiao! Can’t you be a bit more understanding?!” Lu Zhuo interrupted her impatiently. “Bai Mengyao is all alone overseas. Every minute you delay, the possibility of her getting into an accident increases!” He stared at Xu Jiaojiao with his pitch-black eyes, as if he was saying, ‘Is the wedding that important? Is it more important than Bai Mengyao?’

Xu Jiaojiao smiled bitterly. Her throat felt like it was blocked, and she could not say a single word.

Ding! The elevator arrived. Just as Lu Zhuo was about to step into the elevator, Xu Jiaojiao’s soft and firm voice slowly rang out, “Lu Zhuo, let’s break up.”

Upon closer inspection, Xu Jiaojiao’s voice was choked with sobs. Although she liked Lu Zhuo, it did not mean that he could trample on her love as he pleased. Love could not override her dignity.

“You’re not being rational right now. We can talk about breaking up when I get back.” Lu Zhuo did not take Xu Jiaojiao’s words to heart. He knew how much Xu Jiaojiao liked him. She was just angry at him for leaving at the wedding and wanted to make him stay. All he had to do was comfort her after he returned from overseas.

When the elevator door closed, Xu Jiaojiao’s heart felt as if it had fallen into despair. The tears in her eyes finally fell without restraint. In Lu Zhuo’s heart, she was no match for his first love, Bai Mengyao.

Just then, the door to the lounge next door was pushed open. A woman in a dark red cheongsam walked out and looked at Xu Jiaojiao with a scrutinizing, even disdainful gaze. She asked, “Where’s Lu Zhuo?” She was Lu Zhuo’s mother.

If the old matriarch of the family had not arranged the engagement between the Lu and Xu families, Lu Zhuo’s mother would never have allowed her son to marry a country bumpkin like Xu Jiaojiao.

Xu Jiaojiao’s eyelashes fluttered as she said, “He’s gone.”

Lu Zhuo’s mother was stunned. Before she could ask further, Xu Jiaojiao added, “He went to look for Bai Mengyao.”

Upon hearing Bai Mengyao’s name, Lu Zhuo’s mother’s gaze flickered. It was obvious that she knew about the relationship between Bai Mengyao and Lu Zhuo. She snorted coldly and jabbed her finger at Xu Jiaojiao’s nose. “You’re such a failure as a fiancée. You couldn’t even keep your own man on your wedding day, you trash!”

“She was never good for anything to begin with.” Standing behind Lu Zhuo’s mother was a girl in a pink princess dress. Her name was Lu Huan, and she was Lu Zhuo’s younger sister. She hated Xu Jiaojiao, so she did not hold back when she spoke. “She has no looks, no education, and can’t even compare to Sister Bai Mengyao’s little toe. No wonder my brother doesn’t care for her.”
