Chapter 202: Interrogation room (a)
“W-what did you say?! Killing a pack of beasts by himself, fending off a beast as powerful as a magic grandmaster, grouping with thousands of beasts and waging war against the cruel and vicious serpentine devils—how can a boy who is still wet behind the ears pull off stunts like that! We refuse to believe it!”
The young master of the Regis family shouted, refusing to believe what they had just told him. His sharp gaze never left the four members of the Regis family. Finley, Harvey, Sean, and Jay could see that their eldest cousin, who was far talented and stronger than themselves, was as if struck by lightning and turning as dark as charcoal but refusing to believe the reality of the situation. They internally sighed, knowing full well that he was making a fool out of himself. They knew that the truth couldn’t be hidden for long and that he would be fuming with rage when it gets presented before him.
“…B-but it’s the truth.” Although extremely nervous and sweating from head to toe, Tia still managed to gather enough courage to stutter four words out of her mouth. Her father and her Uncle felt bad for her and wanted to take their family’s little rabbit away from here, but they couldn’t do so as they were inside of a temporary interrogation hall. They couldn’t be willful here. This place had some rules and regulations that they needed to follow. Not to mention, people as strong as they were also here, and breaking the rules would also mean disrespecting them and souring their relationship with many people.
Tia’s words would’ve changed some people’s minds, only if some of them were willing to believe it even a little. However, none except for the members of the academy were willing to believe in Elliot’s prowess.
At the same time, it wasn’t just the young master of the Regis family who was in disbelief at their clams. The mistress of the Charlotte Family also had her eyes opened wide like saucers. She, too, refused to believe them. She knew that the chances of their words being the truth were high. Maybe the boy had some kind of fortuitous encounter that caused him to ascend to heaven with one breath, and that was indeed possible. But the chance of that happening was 0.001%.
Furthermore, even if that was the truth, she didn’t want to believe it nor let others believe it! After all, she would lose tens of artifacts if Elliot is truly as strong as the six youngsters in their twenties are mentioning.
“I would like to believe all of you, but what you had said is a bit too far-fetched. It’s too hard to believe the words of you six. The boy when we last met was not even in the channel opening stage. So, the things you mentioned are impossible for him to pull off.” The mistress of the Charlotte family said elegantly while looking at the six people who stood in the center of a room where many magicians in the magic grandmaster and above realm were sitting.
Her powerful eyes were as bright as the sun, and her gaze caused Tia to step back and lower her head. Tia felt helpless at the moment, and her heart swelled up in sadness. She raised her head slightly to look at her father with teary eyes, but even he shook his head, signaling her to remain silent and not care about the truth. She lowered her head, disappointed to her core.
“I believe the same.” An elder of the Charlotte family added, trying to support his lady. “You guys must have eaten something unfamiliar, causing you to hallucinate! That’s the most probable and reasonable conclusion that I can come to after hearing your foolish words that put a 16-year-old boy far above common sense and all the prodigies and legend people of our two worlds.”
“Did the six of you do drugs?”
“Were you guys smoking pots in the settlement which you were supposed to explore? Haha!”
Around them, the head and vice head of the Smith family, members of several magicians families, and the officials as well as the representative of the magician association, Magic Lord Marvin shared the same expression as the others. A sense of absurdity filled all of them, and they thought these six youngsters were pulling off ridiculous pranks to prove their absurd kind of humor.
All of them started berating the six youngsters, who felt desolate, betrayed, humiliated, and abandoned by the people they thought they could rely on. Their heads couldn’t help but lower even more, not only in guilt but also in disappointment. They felt guilty because they weren’t even able to do one thing right and had failed Elliot. They considered him a bastard, but he was also their master and better than the fools around them. They felt disappointed in the elders because instead of hearing them out, they were shooting them down. They were hesitant fools who couldn’t even come to a decision while many people were dying.
Truly disgusting!
Are they the people who they have been believing in since childhood to keep them safe?!
Did dogs eat their eyes?!
Or
Were they born blind?
Is that why they weren’t able to see the ugliness and foolishness of their community?!
“Silence, for god sake, all of you!” Leonardo said loudly and slammed his hand on the table, causing it to break in half and a shockwave to spread out from the point of impact that shook the tablecloths and also the interrogators.
His sudden outburst successfully silenced the others. Without letting them speak, he turned towards the six and said, “I wouldn’t have believed you, but since it’s someone I know and also somewhat admire, I have no reasons not to believe. After all, if it’s him, then he can make the impossible possible.”
The six youngsters raised their heads to look at him with a pleasantly surprised expression on their faces.
“Bullshit!” The young master of the Regis family immediately stood up to go against Leonardo. “How can you even believe something so unbelievable? Had a donkey kicked your head, causing you to go crazy, Little brother?!”
He had only said these taunting words when the pressures of the four elders that accompanied the academy’s student fell on him, making him feel suppressed and unable to say even a single word.
Regis had to discharge his own magic energy to save himself from the embarrassment of having his bones shattered into pieces in front of many people.
“How dare you?” The people around Regis’s family young master could tell that he had been attacked and their white beards immediately flew up in rage.
“Why wouldn’t we dare?” The four elders of the academy were itching to face slap these bitches back to their mother’s bosom, and they expressed their intent to battle by releasing their pressures—unbridled and unrestrained they were. All the tables shattered, the ground cracked, and the powerful elders of the Regis family who were at the magic grandmaster fell to their knees. Only Magic Lords were able to stay upright but only because they were countering the pressure by discharging energy.
“Lords of Magic? No! This pressure can only belong to the Kings of Magic!”
Only now did the young master of the Regis family and the others realized that the pale and sickly-looking old men with hunched backs were far powerful than their imagination.
Before the situation could escalate, though, instructor Leonardo raised one of his hands, signaling them to dispel their pressure and compose themselves. His hand held a token, one with two wings. Immediately after seeing which, the elder huffed and took back their pressure. The others were surprised to see that the magic kings listened to the words of someone weaker than themselves, but they didn’t say a word.
Instructor Leonardo also looked at the Regis family young master and said, “What if everything they had just said was the truth. What if there’s not a single lie in it? If It really happened, just like they said, that the Return Scrolls lost their effect until Elliot saved them all by fighting off a thousand serpentine devils, then what are you going to do?”
“Impossible!” The young master of the Regis family screeched in anger and slammed the table in frustration, breaking the poor guy in two. He was a powerful magician, himself, and was also the soon-to-be head of the Regis family, so one can tell that he was prideful to the bones, and he wasn’t going to let any Tom, dick, and harry lecture him.
“Why is it so hard to believe their words? They barely escaped with their lives, but most of those who went inside had already died—didn’t their life tablets shatter? Moreover, the rest are dying! People are dying inside, desperately waiting to be helped. Can you take responsibility for their death? Can you?!” Instructor Leonardo’s eyes turned sharp and he glared at him.
He felt as if a beast from the desolate era was glaring at him and sweat subconsciously broke out on his forehead.
“Where’s the proof?” He said after a moment. “Don’t tell me that we should just believe whatever they told us without a second thought? You want us to, but we are not easy to push around, little brother. There’s no way any of us here is going to believe in something straight out of a children’s fairytale—only a retarded bastard would!”
