Chapter 180: Self Destruction
The sharp blade in the man’s hand continued to parry against Zhang Xiao Qiang’s bayonet, the clear and crisp sound of metal clashing caused the Combat Team Members by Zhang Xiao Qiang’s side to feel as though they were watching some martial artist movie. They were not at all worried about Zhang Xiao Qiang’s safety, the D2 that could even withstand machine guns and mortars could not do anything to Zhang Xiao Qiang, so what of the man in front of them? Lacking far too much.
The leader and two of his subordinates were already brought by a few Combat Team Members to the side and were kneeling down, the lady who was tied was released. She immediately hugged her own child and stood by the side, waiting for her fate. Aside from the machine gunner who continued to monitor the men sprawled over the ground, the others had their eyes on Zhang Xiao Qiang. They were all enjoying the show, if not for their fear of Zhang Xiao Qiang’s identity, they would have mostly complimented the fight.
Zhang Xiao Qiang looked at the deranged man in front of him as though he was a plaything, occasionally blocking the man’s blade and slowly drawing in closer, to which the man would stumble and roll to the side from his approach. From the man’s position, he would suddenly jump up like a spring and pounce at Zhang Xiao Qiang, although Zhang Xiao Qiang was like a cat toying with a mouse, he had a thread of respect for the man. Although the man was fanatical, he had a toughness to him and an undaunting spirit. If any other person were to have encountered Zhang Xiao Qiang, they would have most likely be captured or killed. But this man kept on going with different methods, everyone knew what he was on his mind, to bite off a piece of meat from Zhang Xiao Qiang’s body even if it meant dying.
“Hah....” The man released air from his mouth, the blade in his hand stabbed straight towards Zhang Xiao Qiang’s heart. Zhang Xiao Qiang took a step backward and parried the blade with his bayonet. With some luck, the sawtooth on the bayonet locked the blade’s body in place. Zhang Xiao Qiang suddenly turned his wrist, exerting a force on the bayonet to flick the blade out of the man’s hand. The blade was wrestled free from his control and flew outwards. Everyone who saw what happened thought that it was over, a crazy dog that had been defanged and claws removed could no longer harm Zhang Xiao Qiang.
“Ah....” Despite losing his weapon, the man did not become dispirited but became even more fanatical. He opened his arms and pounced directly towards Zhang Xiao Qiang with an opened mouth. His expression distorted as he aimed down at Zhang Xiao Qiang’s neck and gnarled with his white teeth. Zhang Xiao Qiang raised his right leg in an attempt to kick at the man, but noticed that the man had moved his left hand, an even smaller blade was inside his hand, the man had decided to kill him while taking his own life and wanted to use his chest to take Zhang Xiao Qiang’s counterattack then use the small blade in his hand to cut Zhang Xiao Qiang’s neck. The Combat Team Members all felt as though huge rocks were pressing down onto their stomachs, they knew that if it were them, they would never be able to dodge the man’s attacks. The man was even crazier than a rabid dog.
With his right leg already raised, Zhang Xiao Qiang sensed that something was wrong but did not have the time to consider it, he dropped his bayonet and suddenly spun around the man and avoided his blade. With both hands, he grabbed onto the man’s left arm and waist and exerted a force. Just like that, he threw the man outwards....Zhang Xiao Qiang touched the cut wound on his face and looked at the man who laid on the floor with slight diffident in his heart. This man is too dangerous. Even when flung by Zhang Xiao Qiang, he had managed to use his right hand to claw at Zhang Xiao Qiang’s face, although he did not have the time to exert more strength, Zhang Xiao Qiang received a skin wound.
The man’s fall was not light, he rolled on the floor in pain for a few moments before struggling to stand. The man standing closest to him holding a rifle laughed at him in ridicule, a few others intentionally aimed their muzzles at him, but he was not afraid, he used his bloodshot eyes and sought for his target. He had no thoughts to return alive from the battlefield, his heart only had one desire, the desire to perish. No one knew when it started, maybe it started when he was in middle school and was suspected to have Type A Influenza and had to lie in the infirmary, but no one bothered to come and visit him. Maybe it started from his father that never bothered or looked at him, inducing a sense of rage inside him, or maybe it was when he was young, he was sent to be taken care by his cousin-in-law whom he hated.
He did not care about anything and only thought about self-destruction, he wanted the whole world to die, he wanted to see the plaza littered with corpses, so he wielded his blade and laughed like a maniac, waiting for a bullet to send him to hell. Right from the beginning, he had this thought in mind, on more than one occasion back in university, he held onto the small blade he purchased online towards his sleeping roommate and gestured many times, as though he was ready to cut down! His living space was dark and suffocating and he constantly felt a heavyweight pressuring down on him, causing him to always seeking to die or self-destruct.
When the apocalypse occurred, he watched from the school roof as students on the field got pounced on by others, ripped apart, bitten, killed; An unprecedented satisfaction rose in his heart, he walked down the steps one step at a time, he wanted to head to the field and allow those crazy monsters to rip him apart and eat him up. He thought that it was the perfect way to die, he hated his own body, because it was something his father had given him.
He slowly walked down the steps when a beautiful image suddenly appeared in his mind, the cousin sister who was six years older than him. The one that cooked for him, who bought sweets and toys for him, the one who brought him out to play, the one that he loved deep in his heart....He came back to himself, he had experienced all sorts of difficulties and perils and constantly walked on the fine line between life and death, the most severe case being his entire body being so injured that he could only lie down and await death. The moment before death felt wonderful, it felt comfortable, as though nothing else mattered. All the past events of his life fleeted past his mind. The beautiful figure smiling at him at the last moment made him suddenly not want to die, he wanted to go back, to climb out of the window and feel the raindrops falling down on his face. Right there and then, he realized that he had changed, he became faster, stronger, he wanted to use these to return to his own home.
His father died and turned into a zombie. He beheaded his own father, looked at the corpse at his feet without any emotions in his heart, with the only sense of loss and worry for his cousin sister. Her husband had died, killed by having small pieces of meat sliced off by his blade, piece by piece. He cut extremely slowly, without knowing whether it was a thousand cuts or ten thousand cuts, he found her white bones in the bedroom. He hugged her bones and screamed in pain, he hated, he hated all of the zombies in the world. With blade in hand, he rushed out of the door, wanting to kill every zombie he encountered or die trying.
Right at that moment between life and death, he saw a girl hugging a pile of food and water running from the end of the street with a Type-S Zombie on her tail. She was dressed in a red hat and down-filled garment, the down-filled garment design was extremely familiar to him, his sister loved that piece. It was the piece that he bought for 500 bucks earned by working during his summer vacation. Seeing that identical garment, he swept past the girl and stabbed his blade into the Type-S Zombie’s head.
That was how he survived with a tail following him constantly, it was the girl dressed in the down-filled garment, the beautiful and delicate girl called Mi Nan, a 15-year-old student. She relied on her indescribable foresight and survived the apocalypse for a few months until she met him....
