Chapter 261: Tiny Times!?!

Within a conference room in Jiangmen city, Inspector Ho buried his head in a pile of papers. He let out a long sigh as he stared at the two men sitting opposite him – Lin Chen and Yue Shan. He asked, “How is it? Do you have any lead on the golden man’s case?”

“No,” Lin Chen replied as he shook his head dejectedly, “Nothing came up when I went to check the surveillance in the area. None of the six gym instructors had any clue as to the golden man’s identity. However, we have some idea as to why a fight broke out between the golden man and the cat.”

The three of them began their discussion on Muscle Society before Yue Shan interjected, “Nowadays, both the apostles and supercats have developed a better control and grasp of their powers. Even if we don’t start hunting them down like what the Americans did, we should not allow them to do whatever they want.

Just look at Muscle Society! They’ve been hiding in the dark all this while and they have this training power which is simply limitless. We cannot allow these organizations to continue growing.”

Inspector Ho kept silent but simply let out another long sigh. He knew that this was easier said than done.

There were many reasons why the government chose to adopt a less aggressive approach to the entire supercat situation. Chief amongst them was simply because there were too many supercats.

Even though the percentage of supercats and apostles amongst the entire population was less than .01%, this number was still far too large for China which had a population exceeding 1.3 billion.

Any aggressive top-down approach would simply result in too many casualties on both sides. The higher-ups simply could not take this risk.

Hence, they had decided on a more friendly approach and started managing the supercats and apostles as friends instead of enemies.

However, Inspector Ho nodded his head and asserted, “It’s true, we have to quicken our pace. This Cat King competition would be our best opportunity to compile a list of supercats and apostles in the area. With their info in our database, it would be a lot easier to manage them.”

Actually, this competition was not solely organized by the four cat kings. The government also had a part to play in this wide-scale organization. This competition was not exclusive to Jiangmen City. Every single province in China had organized their local competitions. This was an attempt to contact individuals who were unwilling to be in touch with the government or to identify supercats which had recently awakened their powers.

Through the grueling battles between the apostles, the government officials hope to persuade them and lure them to join their side.

Secondly, the title of Cat King could allow the government to control all the apostles and supercats in an unofficial appointment.

“I am confident that I will win this competition!” Yue Shan roared as he started pounding against his chest. However, a frown appeared on his face as he complained, “However why are there so few apostles involved in these fights? Can’t the higher-ups just send more people?”

Inspector Ho let out a bitter laugh and explained, “You know things are not as simple as you thought, especially when it concerns your power of psychokinesis. Do you think they dare to entrust this power to more people?”

Even though the apostle army was not the number one priority in the government agenda, it was still something which they had dedicated significant resources to. However, they were extremely selective in the selection of apostles, which explained the poor numbers.

Ultimately, superpowers were a whole new ball game as compared to technology. Too many superpowers lurking around were still a threat to our modern society.

For example, if a group of apostles, which had the power of psychokinesis, sat down for a meeting and one of them suddenly got strangled to death. No one could determine who was at fault.

Unlike conventional weapons like pistols and swords, powers like psychokinesis were shapeless and invisible. You could kill people without moving an inch.

The wide-scale proliferation of such immense powers was simply too dangerous and risky.

Hence, the exact course of action was still being discussed by the higher-ups.

Meanwhile, Lin Chen’s power of extreme speed was significantly easier to control. Hence, there were far more government apostles with the power of extreme speed than psychokinesis.

Hence, the apostles with extreme speed and psychokinesis formed the bulk of the apostle army in Jiangmen City. Every city in China had their unique apostle army with unique abilities.

Another area of focus for the government would be the growth of the supercat’s power.

Suddenly, Inspector Ho’s voice broke the silence, “Remember to keep an eye out on this Muscle Society.”

“Don’t worry, I have already sent my subordinates out on 24 hours duty to keep track of their movements.” Lin Chen lifted his shoulders in a half shrug and commented, “I’m just afraid that they have already gone into hiding.”

Inspector Ho recognized his concern and nodded his head, “During the Cat King competition, we must keep an eye out for them. Currently, they were in the process of expanding and strengthening their powers. It’s extremely likely that they would appear in the competition.”

...

At the entrance of Moonlight Elementary School, a chubby boy stood outside and craned his neck between the gates sneakily.

Suddenly, he started jumping up and down when he noticed Xiao Yu carrying a red haversack as she made her way out of the gates.

“Xiao Yu! Xiao Yu! Are you free tonight?”

Xiao Yu’s forehead creased together as she replied coolly, “I have come to understand a simple truth during my short time spent in the world.”

This reply left the chubby boy all curious as he asked, “What is it?”

Xiao Yu let out a sigh before continuing, “There is a limit to an elementary school student’s ability.”

This reply left the chubby boy dumbfounded.

Xiao Yu replied, “I’ve come to realize how powerless elementary students are the more I act cute and the more I throw my tantrum. Unless I can surpass it.”

“Xiao Yu, what are you trying to say?”

“Wei Zai, I’m not going to be a student anymore.” Xiao Yu stared at the fat boy who remained dumbfounded and continued explaining, “I have applied to skip a grade. I will be studying in the neighboring middle school starting from next semester. I guess we won’t have any more chance to play together in the future. Don’t spend your time looking for me. Anyway, the pretty girl from our neighboring class is quite a gold-digger. She will suit you perfectly.”

“Huh?” Sadness clouded the fat boy’s features as he whispered, “What about the movie tickets that I have bought?”

“Oh? Movie Tickets?” Xiao Yu suddenly jolted with energy upon hearing the word, “What movie is it?”

“It’s the tickets for Tiny Times.” The chubby boy replied with tears welled up in his eyes, “I heard that you really wanted to watch this movie. I saved up my entire weeks’ worth of pocket money for it.”

Xiao Yu immediately snatched the tickets from his hands and replied, “Hmph, let’s go for the movie tonight then. I will help you take care of these tickets for now. I’ll meet you in an hour’s time at the entrance of the cinema.”

...

One hour later, the fat boy stood at the entrance with his hair combed into the neatest pompadour. He even donned on his most expensive Supreme T-Shirt. From afar, he had already noticed Xiao Yu appearing from the horizons. He immediately dashed towards her.

“Eh, Xiao Yu, you brought along a cat and a dog?” The chubby boy never expected Xiao Yu to bring her pets for a movie.

“Are you stupid? I obviously had to use the pretense of walking my dog in order to leave my house! Am I supposed to tell my mum that I’m going out for a movie with you? They will think I’m in a relationship!”

“Xiao Yu, is your cat taking a shit?” The chubby buy pointed towards Fish Ball whose tail was quivering violently.

Xiao Yu immediately sent a kick across Fish Ball’s butt and caused him to retract his feces back into his intestines.

“Stupid cat! Do you expect me to pick up your shit in public? Go use the toilet bowl when we return home.”

Woof! Woof! Woof! Fish Ball throbbed with anger and retorted, “Isn’t shitting the purpose of walking your dog? If not, why did you even bring me out?”

Naturally, all Xiao Yu heard was a bunch of meows. However, she would not bother even if she understood his words. She simply dragged her pets along as they made their way towards the cinema.
