Accidental Ascendance

Chapter 28 Assault On The Capital 1: Sylas V.S Livian

In the midst of the city's chaos, a cloaked figure soared through the air, consumed by ambition and anticipation. "This is the moment I've been waiting for," he mused to himself, his voice hidden beneath the confines of his hood. His goal was clear – to demonstrate his prowess with the magi tech and secure a position of power as a lieutenant within The Fest. "With this magi tech, I'll easily take out an S-rank mage and make my mark."

His plotting came to a sudden pause as a sharp whistle broke through the chaos, drawing his attention skyward. There, transformed into her human form, stood the dragon that had piqued his curiosity. Her beckoning gesture was an invitation he couldn't ignore.

A sly grin tugged at the corners of his lips as he assessed the situation. "Good, a volunteer," he muttered under his breath. Swiftly, he unsheathed a silver sword adorned with gleaming gems. The blade ignited with flames, a torrent of fire surging forth with a single swing. The flames surged toward the woman, engulfing the city square in their fiery embrace. He relished the moment, convinced of his apparent triumph. "That was too easy..."

His victory was short-lived, however, as a chuckle, soft yet echoing, permeated the air around him. "That was an interesting ice breaker, boy." The dragon's voice rang out, confident and amused. Suddenly, like a cannonball, she shot through the flames, her single arm outstretched to grasp him. Just before she could crush his skull, his form was consumed by flames, leaving behind nothing but his cloak.

From the embers on the ground, the man reformed himself, his hair still ablaze. Defiance in his stance, the man spat, "I know a dragon when I smell one."

The woman scoffed, a half-smile tugging at her lips. "You're far from home, little nymph."

She landed gracefully, brushing off flecks of ash from her attire. "Well, now that we know each other's true nature, why don't we introduce ourselves properly? It's always courteous to know whom I'm going to obliterate."

The man lifted his blade, his tone filled with ire. "I am Sylas. And for your information, I'm a half nymph..."

A chuckle rumbled from the dragon, her laughter carrying an air of superiority. "A half-breed, huh? That explains why you smell like wyvern dung."

His blade poised for battle, Sylas snapped back, "What's your name, dragon?"

With a mock bow, the dragon introduced herself, her demeanor playful. "I am Livian. Pleasure to meet you, I'm sure..."

Sylas, now fueled by anger, raised his blade higher. "The only pleasure I'll find is when my blade pierces your scaly heart."

Unfazed by his threats, Livian hopped up and down, warming herself up. A mischievous glint danced in her eyes as she teased, "Wow, you should at least buy a girl dinner first..."

In the heart of the city, amidst the chaos of the assault, Livian and Sylas faced each other, their magic-laden gazes locked in a fierce challenge. The air crackled with anticipation as they prepared to engage in a battle that would determine the fate of the city.

Sylas gripped his flaming sword tightly, flames dancing along its length with an intensity matched only by his determination. His stance was one of controlled aggression, his muscles coiled like a spring ready to unleash its stored energy. With a growl, he surged forward, a torrent of flames trailing in his wake as he swung his sword in a blazing arc towards Livian.

Livian's response was effortless, a sidestep that carried her just beyond the reach of the flames. Her movements were fluid, almost leisurely, as if she were engaged in a casual dance rather than a life-or-death battle. She twirled gracefully, her one arm sweeping through the air, and a surge of lightning crackled around her fingers. With a flick of her wrist, she sent a bolt of lightning streaking towards Sylas.

Sylas deflected the lightning with a swift swing of his sword, the clash of elements creating a dazzling burst of light that illuminated their standoff. He bared his teeth in a snarl, the flames around him intensifying as he unleashed a barrage of fiery projectiles, each one hurtling towards Livian with the force of a blazing comet.

But Livian merely raised her hand, and a wall of crackling electricity formed before her, each lightning bolt shearing through the incoming flames, disintegrating them before they could even touch her. Her expression remained unchanged, a smirk playing at the corners of her lips as if she were toying with a child.

Sylas gritted his teeth, his frustration evident in his fiery gaze. With a fierce cry, he lunged forward again, his sword engulfed in flames as he attempted a series of swift strikes that aimed to overwhelm Livian's defenses.

Yet, Livian's movements were almost lazy, each dodge and parry executed with an elegance that belied the danger she faced. She danced around Sylas with an almost mocking grace, her every step a taunting challenge. With a casual flick of her finger, she sent arcs of lightning snaking towards Sylas, each bolt seeking him out with uncanny accuracy.

Sylas was forced to retreat, his flaming sword creating a barrier of fire to deflect the incoming lightning. His breath came in ragged gasps, his frustration growing with every failed attempt to land a blow on the seemingly untouchable dragon. He growled in a mixture of anger and disbelief, his flames burning hotter as he gathered his magic for another assault.

Livian's eyes glinted with amusement as she continued to dance around Sylas, her movements a testament to her complete control over the battle. She allowed a small chuckle to escape her lips, her voice dripping with condescension. "Is that the best you've got, little nymph?"

Livian's movements were a fluid symphony of grace and power, her lightning-imbued strikes fending off Sylas's fiery onslaught effortlessly. She toyed with him, each step an intricate dance that left Sylas struggling to keep up.

Sylas gritted his teeth, his frustration and anger fueling his determination. With a furious roar, he summoned his flames with renewed intensity, his blade becoming a blazing comet as he launched himself at Livian with a reckless charge.

But Livian was like the wind, her lithe form swaying gracefully as she danced away from Sylas's attacks. She deflected his strikes with precise movements, lightning crackling through her very being, enhancing her reflexes to a supernatural level.

With a sudden burst of speed, Livian closed the distance between them in a heartbeat, her one arm morphing into a mass of crackling lightning that she swung at Sylas with deadly accuracy. The impact sent him hurtling across the battlefield, crashing into a building with a resounding boom.

Sylas struggled to rise, his body battered and bruised from the brutal impact. He wiped the blood from his lip, his anger igniting like a wildfire. He clenched his fists, flames erupting from his very pores as his magic surged beyond its limits. His skin turned black like charcoal, and his hair burst into flames that danced with an ethereal fury.

The air around Sylas vibrated with an almost palpable energy, his newfound power radiating from him like a scorching aura. His eyes blazed with an infernal light, his very being transformed into a creature of fire and rage.

Livian regarded the transformation with a mix of curiosity and caution. She could sense the overwhelming magic emanating from Sylas, his newfound power threatening to consume him. But she didn't falter; instead, she met his blazing gaze with a steely resolve, ready to face whatever challenge he now presented.

Sylas roared, the sound a mixture of anger and pain, his fiery form surging forward in an eruption of power. He swung his sword with a speed that defied the eye, each strike accompanied by a tempest of flames that threatened to consume everything in their path.

Livian met the onslaught head-on, her lightning-imbued attacks colliding with Sylas's flames in a clash of elements that sent shockwaves rippling through the air. The ground quaked beneath their ferocity, the very city seeming to tremble in response to their titanic struggle.

Despite the overwhelming force of Sylas's attacks, Livian held her ground, her lightning-infused magic acting as a barrier against his flames. She countered his strikes with an uncanny precision, each movement calculated to redirect his attacks away from her.

The two mages seemed like elemental forces locked in an eternal struggle—fire against lightning, power against finesse. The battlefield became a maelstrom of magic, a chaotic symphony of flames and lightning that illuminated the night with its dazzling display.

But even in his newfound form, Sylas's anger and frustration were evident. His strikes grew wilder, his flames burning hotter as he fought to break through Livian's defenses. The ground around them began to crack and fissure, the very earth warping under the strain of their battle.

And then, with a final, furious swing, Sylas unleashed a torrent of flames so intense that it consumed everything in its path. The fiery onslaught collided with Livian's lightning magic, resulting in an explosion of cataclysmic proportions that sent shockwaves rippling outward.

As the smoke and debris began to clear, Sylas stood amidst the devastation, his flames subsiding, his form battered and burned. Livian emerged from the dissipating energy, her expression unchanged, her aura of power undiminished.

She regarded Sylas with a mix of respect and understanding, her voice carrying a note of somber acknowledgment. "You've tapped into something dangerous, little nymph."

Sylas's breathing was ragged, his flames flickering with uncertainty. He glared at Livian, his voice a growl of defiance. "I won't be defeated by the likes of you."

With a solemn nod, Livian extended her hand, lightning crackling around her fingers. "Then show me the true extent of your power."
