A Wanderer's Lies

Chapter 106: Superiority

Superiority.

A feeling many did get to experience in their lifetime. Working under governments or their systems, in today's world, most were subjected to be a slave for the rest of their life.

However, for those who were able to break free…

For those who were lucky enough to experience the look that was given to a superior human for themselves…

For those who made it to the top for even a single second…

They'd never stop till they had more.

Most thought it was a bad thing, to think you were better than others. While others strived to be good enough at something that allowed them to think that way.

And either way, one thing was known by all.

It was a drug. One that was easy to lose yourself in.

Especially for those who'd been the underdog for their whole lives.

'That single Adaption took half my Gauge.'

Isaac thought, making sure to keep his eye on the metre.

[Gauge: 47%]

Each minute after he adapted, an ability would cost one per cent.

But Isaac didn't mind that as much as he did the true consumption of his Gauge.

'The stronger the Adaption, the more the consumption. Meaning the stronger opponents who require stronger Adaptations will pose a threat to me.'

In normal circumstances, Isaac wouldn't mind this too much. After all, it wasn't like he was fighting S-Ranks regularly.

Additionally, Kitsune's Pall was only at Level 1. The more he increased this, the better all his abilities would become.

However, he was in the middle of the Onyx's invasion. Any disadvantages could cost him his life.

"L-Let…g-go…"

Xavier muttered.

He looked pale and he'd lost so much of his strength that he was even able to keep his head up as Isaac held him in the air with his tail.

Isaac called back his tail, watching the bald man drop to the ground, his body limp.

'Just making sure.'

Isaac thought. He made sure to drain most of the Nen from his body so that even his emotional boost wouldn't help.

Not that it would matter. After all, he'd adapted the perfect counter to Xavier's Hatsu.

[Complete Gravitational Control (Lvl. MAX)]

Xavier's voids, no better than miniature black holes, had their own powerful Gravitational Fields.

It was a result of the void's infinitely dense mass. But because Isaac adapted that ability, he was able to finely control existing gravity.

And it wasn't because of this that he was able to use his gravity to oppose the voids, causing the void to cancel out and disappear.

Truthfully, he didn't know if it would work. But either way, he wasn't reliant on it. There was always this option…

-VUAM

Xavier suddenly felt a crushing pressure bear down on him, snapping him back from unconsciousness as he widened his eyes and struggled to breathe.

"Now, I have a few questions."

One of Isaac's tails slithered toward Xavier, wrapping around the man. Only this time, Xavier didn't sense the draining feeling he usually would.

"You will answer my questions truthfully, won't you?"

Xavier paused upon hearing such a peculiar question.

One to which he'd laugh at. After everything, he'd almost forgotten his opponent was still a teenager. A naive one at that.

However, before he could say anything, his mouth moved.

"Yes."

He mumbled to his dismay.

'What…when did I…I didn't…' Xavier stammered inwardly but no matter how hard he tried, no words would escape his lips.

Meanwhile, Isaac smirked.

[Kitsune's Pall, Second Tail: Ignorance's Escape]

[Description: Whilst this tail touches an entity, they will be forced to speak the truth, no matter what]

[Cost: If said entity does not know the answer to your question, this ability will repel back onto the user, ensuring they never lie as long as they live]

Isaac knew without lying he'd never live long. This knowledge reflected on his ability.

Because his loss would be astronomical for him, it made the ability all the more powerful.

"What is your rank within Onyx?"

Isaac asked his mask still on his face, causing his voice to be distorted.

Due to Xavier currently not having the best line of sight on Isaac, he could simply hear a voice akin to a Ghost's whispers.

"I've recently been assigned the role of Priest. Before that, I was a follower under the Priest Jayne. However, upon her mysterious demise, I was promoted."

Xavier answered in a monotone voice as if he was on some sort of drug.

'I knew it.'

Isaac thought. He had his suspicions that he was under Jayne. After all, Jayne had his Swatch.

The reason Isaac didn't ask the questions he wanted to know most, like what the prophecy was or the end goal of Onyx, or even where their Headquarters was located, he couldn't.

Listening to the audio which was sent to Jayne, a Priest, and knowing he was only given minimal information regarding today's events, he couldn't be reckless.

Though, if Xavier were a Bishop or even a King of Onyx, Isaac would feel far less wary.

Despite this, Isaac was still planning to juice as much information as he could.

***

"Interesting."

Isaac muttered.

He still stood in his same position, his tail wrapped around the laying Xavier. Only now, he had long since deactivated his first Tail, the Freak.

Because of this, his voice had returned to normal, and the mask had disappeared, revealing his face. Though, his Scarlet Eyes were still active.

"Okay, onto the important question."

Isaac now knew detailed information about Onyx. More than he did before.

The number of Priests never exceeded or fell below the number 40.

The Bishops, who were half that much, and finally the Kings.

Xavier described them as both "Kings" and "Queens", confirming that there was more than one.

Three to be exact.

Though, Isaac didn't know anymore.

He didn't risk asking a lowly Priest for further information on such important individuals.

Same with the location of the headquarters.

However, he did learn something interesting.

Xavier's first occupation, other than a teacher, was an inventor.

One that was highly revered for his ingenuity within Onyx.

And he happened to carry around a few items he didn't trust being away from him. In his Dimensional Storage to be more specific.

One that Isaac currently held in his hand.

Though he wanted to know more, he couldn't waste any more time.

His eyes were losing focus as the minutes passed, and he couldn't trust Onyx to continue their attack on Aurelius or Ashton any further if it had even started.

Besides, he could just search the dimensional storage himself when this was all over.

"What's your role in Onyx's attack?" Isaac asked, making sure to keep the questions simple and precise.

"I was in charge of overseeing the hostage plan in the Coliseum," Xavier replied.

'So the main goal was the coliseum. Obviously, it is. After all, that's where they'll find the most people.'

There was no better hostage to keep than an entire city.

However, there was one thing Isaac didn't understand.

'Giving such a task to a simple priest seems reckless.'

But after a few seconds, Xavier was most likely the best person to give this task to.

"You're the only mole in Aurelius. You have a closer connection to this event than most other members of Onyx might have, right?"

After a second, Xavier responded.

"Yes, I have a closer connection to this event than most other members of Onyx at the moment. But that is not the reason they chose me. It's because the events at the Coliseum are a mere distraction…"

Isaac narrowed his eyes as he heard this. Though it made sense that something so barbaric as holding a knife to a whole city's throat wouldn't simply be the main objective of Onyx, it still surprised him.

However, the next words that escaped Xavier's lips made him pause.

"And no, I am not the only mole."

Isaac paused to listen, making sure Xavier was done before he asked another question.

"Who are the other moles?" Isaac asked and as usual, Xavjer answered obediently.

"Just one. Logan Dream..."

Isaac raised an eyebrow. The name didn't ring any bells at first, however, the more he thought, the more his heartbeat quickened.

But before he could conclude himself, Xavier confirmed his thoughts.

"Currently going by the name Zachery Bloom. A follower of Onyx under me."

It was as if a knife was plunged into Isaac's gut as he turned his head one way, then to the other, blinking rapidly while his breathing went uncontrolled.

Countless thoughts ran through his mind.

Was Xavier lying?

No, how could he under Isaac's Tail?

Was there perhaps a second Zachery Bloom in Aurelius?

Maybe. But remembering Zach telling Isaac his real name was Logan, it couldn't just be a coincidence.

Isaac was confused but was still able to rule out all other possibilities till one remained.

'Is Zach…really a member of Onyx?'

Isaac asked. He didn't want to believe it, but he couldn't deny all the signs were pointing toward it.

It made sense now how Zach was able to escape Section Z. With the help of Onyx, it wouldn't be as difficult.

In fact, he was just remembering that Zachery told him about being close to Xavier.

Therefore, his confusion was joined by a burning rage at his inability to make this connection as soon as he figured out Xavier was with Onyx.

Perhaps it was because he'd been so focused on the plan for today…or because he'd considered Zach…

Isaac clenched his teeth till they almost cracked, snapping his head back to Xavier.

"What is Zach's goal?!"

Isaac yelled as Xavier answered back instantly, his tone never changing.

"He is to oversee and ensure the Prophecy goes as planned. From the day we got him out of Section Z, that has been his only objective."

This was what Isaac needed. A hint that revealed Xavier knew more than he thought.

"Tell me now, what is the prophecy?!"

Isaac asked once again, and as Xavier answered, a shock worse than the previous snuck up on Isaac.

Causing him to freeze under the moon as his eyes went blank. His breathing, which had been one of the only noises in the dark forest, halted as his heart seemingly stopped with it.

"I-It can't be…"

***

In Ember Hotel, in the detailed and serene hallways with silky red carpets and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, all of which signified the luxury of the building, a boy could be seen zooming at a rapid pace through said hallways.

He didn't seem to want to pause and admire the beautiful sight, or rather, he didn't care.

His footsteps were the only thing that ran out as he soon came to an abrupt stop, slightly out of breath as he stood before a door.

Without wasting a second, he lifted his leg and kicked open the entrance to the room.

The luxurious door was almost blown off its hinges as the same boy walked in, staring at the scene before him.

In a large living room with expensive furniture, four cloaked figures could be seen kneeling and facing away from the door.

But this wasn't what the boy was focused on.

"Hey…"

Isaac let out, staring at a familiar figure…no, familiar wasn't the word he'd use.

Who he once knew as Zach stood before the kneeling cloaked figures, his hair snow white and left eye turned to that of a Ghoul.

Zach, or rather Logan, turned to Isaac, both his eyes cold and missing the usual glint that Isaac would recognise anywhere.

His expression was just as indifferent as he failed to show any emotion.

Isaac stated for a few seconds. He wanted to speak but no words escaped his lips.

It wasn't until his eyes wandered off to the side, further from Logan, a figure stood facing away from him, looking out of the window with his hands behind his back.

It was then that Isaac also noticed the four figures weren't facing Logan, but rather this figure.

From the stature and hair, Isaac could tell who this was.

"Oliver…"

Isaac let out, but silence prevailed as a few more seconds passed.

Isaac clenched his fist as he took a single step forward, his eyebrows tightening as he repeated himself.

"Hey, Oliver!"

He yelled. This time, he induced a reaction.

"Oliver?" The figure muttered, his voice soft yet hiding a sinister undertone.

Isaac could tell from his tone that the figure was smiling.

He was able to confirm this as the figure turned his head, meeting Isaac's gaze.

"No, not quite. But I must say, it's a pleasure to finally have the chance to introduce myself."

Isaac stayed silent as he watched the figure turn his body, removing his glasses as he did and running his finger through his hair.

It was then that Isaac's heartbeat incensed. As the seconds passed, he realised it more and more…

He wasn't speaking to Oliver.

"The Prophecy will see the birth of the third recorded Possession. But it's already been fulfilled. Logan's job from then on was that of a mere chauffeur. He has brought us what used to be Oliver Clover."

These were the last words Xavier had said.

Isaac couldn't believe it till he saw it for himself.

But it was true.

"The time has come, Isaac. The time for the world to acknowledge me as a superior being. The time for me to once again return to my almighty throne as the one above all."

[Possession: Aizen Sosuke]

[Verse: Bleach]

"The time for the world to meet Aizen Sosuke."
