Chapter 229 - 229 Goodbye (1)

229 Goodbye (1)

“Amy!” No matter what kind of thoughts jumbled in her mind or whatever she was doing at that time, there was no way for Amy to not recognize the voice that had just called out her name.

“Brother!?” Amy turned her head left and right, searching for her brother’s figure as she clearly heard his voice calling out to him earlier.

However, when she looked all around the open window, even trying her best to squint her eyes through the fence that encased the orphanage, Amy wasn’t able to find her brother’s face anywhere.

“Don’t be afraid, okay?” She heard the voice once again, and this time, she was able to listen to the voice undoubtedly coming from above her. Which didn’t make sense considering the orphanage didn’t have a second floor or a climbable roof, but none of those logics applied to her when all Amy wanted to see was her brother’s face.

But before Amy could lift her head up, Amy’s eyes were suddenly blocked by an unknown dark shadow. And before she could register what was actually happening to her, Amy felt her whole body being jerked up and forward. Her body lifted up from the ground and pulled away as easily as if she was only a 10lbs baby.

Then within a couple of seconds, she saw she was brought out of the orphanage’s ground, went past the fence easily with a single jump, and went straight into the woods near the orphanage.

Amy felt her body being held by someone, a pair of arms supporting her underside as she was being held in a princess carry. And of course, with that position, she could clearly see who was holding onto her.

Hearing her brother’s voice earlier before she was brought out from the window, of course, Amy had expected it was her brother who had called out to her. But when she looked up to see the face that had carried her, Amy couldn’t help but flinch as she reflexively tried to get away from the person’s hold.

Feeling the resistance in his arms, Blake quickly said, “Amy, calm down, it’s me, Blake.”

.....

Hearing the same familiar voice once again, Amy forcefully calmed her body down and took a good look at the face that had carried her.

The jet-black skin that had the same color as the night sky, a pair of spread-out wings to the person’s back, a pair of horns on the forehead, and even claws for hands that she could feel the roughness of them just by them rubbing against her clothes.

From that look alone, Amy knew that whatever was carrying her was not a human.

However, hearing the voice that came out of the creature’s mouth, Amy cast aside the glaring details she recognized and instead focused on the tiny subtle details that the creature had.

Although the eyes looked different than ordinary human eyes as the creature’s eyes were pitch black with two brown and red dots in the middle, Amy somehow could feel the resemblance of shape and undertone of the eyes to Blake’s eyes.

“Are you… Really, brother?” She asked.

“Yes, although I might look a little different, yes, this is me, Blake.” As the creature answered her, this time she had her eyes fully focused on the creature’s face as she stared at every facial muscle that the creature had. When he answered, she took notice of how his mouth moved, and how his eyes looked, and even heard the tone of his voice as clearly as possible.

She then looked at the clothes that the creature was wearing, and of course, it was the same clothes that she saw Blake wearing. Albeit now she could see holes on the back of the clothes as they allowed two bat-like wings to spread wide open.

No matter what she thought about the creature that she currently saw with her own eyes, Amy was already 90% sure that it was her brother. However, Amy had thought of one more test to see whether it was really her brother.

Many might have noticed it, but not a lot of them really know the extent of it. What her brother had was not only a good memory but instead, a very good memory. So good in fact that he literally couldn’t forget about anything even if he wanted to. He could overlook some things, but when he wanted to recall a certain memory, even if the ones that he overlooked before, then he would be able to do it without a single problem.

“Brother, on the day that you disappeared, you came home with wounds on your body, what did you say you did to get those wounds?”

Without showing anything more than a smile of embarrassment, one which Amy recognized very well, Blake fluently answered, “An army of scary caterpillars…”

Hearing his answer, Amy finally released all guards that she put up as she threw herself on her brother’s chest.

“Brother!!!” Amy buried her head on Blake’s chest, her arms wrapped tightly around his chest, seemingly refusing to let go of them ever.

“I’m sorry I said you’re a violent person…”

“I’m sorry for making you angry at me…”

“I’m sorry I’ve said all those things to you, not thinking about how you feel…”

She bawled as she repeated her apologies. Her earlier thoughts haunted her, afraid that her brother would hate her and he didn’t want to talk to her ever again.

Amy then felt a rough yet gentle hand rubbing the back of her head. Despite his best efforts to avoid her head being touched by the claws, some parts of the claws still made contact with Amy’s fragile-looking head. But even with the rough texture of the claws, Amy still felt her heart calming down and her worries washed away as she heard his gentle voice.

“It’s okay, Amy. I was never angry at you. And thinking about it, you might be true. I might be a little harsh earlier, there’s nothing wrong with what you’ve said.” Blake kept moving his hand, constantly rubbing the girl’s head, making sure that she did not feel scared or worried about anything any longer.

Blake wanted to let Amy spend as many minutes or even hours, no matter how long it was, Blake wanted to let Amy vent while being held in his chest. With his increased physique stat and Amy’s rather light weight, he could keep supporting her body with one hand while the other gently rubbed her head or her back until she finally calmed down.

However, [00:02:11], time was not something that Blake had plenty of, and he had to make the best use of what he got left.
