Chapter 473 - Designing A Weapon

The two entered one of the more prestigious blacksmiths of Kynigo. Not too shockingly, it was also owned by a dwarf, like Boran, she was Tier 7. Though, she was just a normal blacksmith.

"Pelaros my friend, what brings you here?" A female dwarf in forging clothing (thick drake leather apron, gloves, and pants - most certainly very warm), asked after stepping out from her forge upon hearing the city lord has graced her a visit.

"I hope I can commission a weapon for my friend here, Solvi."

Turning her dark brown eyes over to the elf, she appraised him up and down. "You came to me for this newbie?"

Pelaros chuckled hearing her confusion, "I can assure you, he is not a newbie. Also, I would like to have the request be expedited. I am sure you already heard the rumors of the gala."

"You mean, this will be his reward. What did he do to earn that?" She asked half-jokingly, the answer leaving her speechless.

"He is the reason we managed to actually win in the end."

"You mean, this runt? How is that possible?"

Feeling like it would be too hard for Pelaros to explain, Eldrian cast Frost Needle as a demonstration. Having the ice morph before her eyes, which widened in shock.

Nearly running Eldrian over, she rushed to the spell and observed it with fervor. When he canceled the spell her disappointment was clear, until a mischievous glint appeared in her eyes.

"Do you want to be my apprentice? I will even allow you to help in forging your weapon."

"What?!" Eldrian and Pelaros shouted in shock. Allowing someone to help meant you were willing to have them see and possibly learn all your secrets.

"In return, you will explain how you did that."

'Of course, I can't blame her for wanting that. Nor do I feel like I will lose on this deal.'? Eldrian smile and nodded, "There is no guarantee you will be able to replicate it."

"I am quite alright with that. If I can gain even a little more control over my mana, it would improve my craft by leaps and bounds."

"Then you have yourself a deal," Eldrian said, offering his hand which she promptly shook.

"Of course, you will still need to provide coverage for the raw materials." She said while looking at Pelaros who sighed as he handed over a large bag of gold coins.

"Actually, I will also add some money if there is a need."

"Oh? You mean you want to try and make a Tier 7 weapon?" She asked with a slight hint of shock. She could guarantee a Tier 6 weapon, but with Tier 7 weapons the chance of failure was quite significant.

"Yes, if possible. We do not need to push it too far and risk failing. How about, we use the materials required for Tier 7 weapons, but you focus on what you are comfortable with."

"Are you sure, most would consider that a massive waste?"

"There is one thing I know, and that is that you cannot waste money on a weapon. It is your only way to come out on top."

"And what about armor?" She asked, naturally, Eldrian wasn't in his armor currently as it was quite uncomfortable for daily wear. This wasn't a problem when you knew it was there to protect you, but in a city that should be safe. The discomfort becomes a bit too much.

"I have some, and I don't mind having it be far behind my weapon. After all, the best defense is a good offense."

"I have no idea where you heard that, I must strongly disagree. However, I do like that attitude..."

"Alright, we will do as you say."

...

Pelaros then discussed the details of the timing and left the two alone. "Come with me, and tell me how much you think you can add to the cost."

Quickly doing the math in his head, Eldrian figured he had around 1,9k of his own to spend. However, not wanting to be restricted by money and wishing to continue to treat Ceph whenever he could, he didn't want to spend it all on the weapon.

"A thousand and five hundred." Eldrian said after some contemplation, causing the lady smith to nearly stumble over her own feet.

Turning to look him up and down again, she concluded that he wasn't a noble and indeed he was a Chosen. Confusing her all the more on just how he could have that much money on hand. Heck, that would more than double what Pelaros had handed her.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I also have a few things I want to add if it will be possible."

Hearing this, she didn't know what to think. From Eldrian's tone and his credentials thus far, it was clear he knew that just a mana crystal wouldn't cut it. Causing her mind to spin as she tried to think of what he might have to add.

Inside the forge, Eldrian took out Aoidos as a template. He was used to this double-headed spear, and he wanted his new weapon to be similar. He wasn't opposed to changes, more he only wanted changes if they added something. He didn't want to add unnecessary flare.

Aoidos was, at its core, a very simple design.

"How about we add some wings, to stop anything from reaching you if it is enraged. I am sure you had some problems with that."

"Indeed, I have no problem with adding one wing. However, I want to keep the back blade as is. Actually, can we make it slightly thinner?"

The two continued to discuss the design for nearly two hours, after which a basic drawing had been made.

"Alright, a spear is inherently more expensive than a normal sword due to the larger amount of materials needed. But with the amount we have available, there is no need for us to hold back."

"First, we will start with the shaft. Do you want it to be wooden or metal?"

'Mmm, my instincts tell me to go metal since it makes no sense that wood would be strong enough. But, Aoidos has already shown me that normal values like that are incorrect. Actually...'

"Can I ask what types of wood you have available?"

"The most common type is naturally Ackley wood, in fact, we nearly deforested the forest so they are also much cheaper at the moment. I also have a few pieces of the correct size in Alderleaf and Thress."

'Alderleaf and Thress? I know those two. Right! Erik made a burning Thress flower and Ceph Alderleaf arrows!'

"Would it be alright if I tried to procure my own shaft?"

"Are you sure?" She asked and then just nodded, giving up on trying to understand all the secrets Eldrian had. "Yes, that will be fine."

"Great!" Eldrian smiled and decided to return to Avgi for a quick trip.

While he couldn't make use of the spring to teleport there, he could teleport to Duran and then with Ceph it wouldn't even take the entire morning.

"Right, that was supposed to be a very large sum. If you are going to procure it without needing to spend anything," She paused to allow Eldrian to indicate if this was the case, which his nodding confirmed.

"Then, we can likely use Rank 3 metals for the blades. Unless you want to add some Rank 3 crystals? for stronger abilities."
